Lets Talk Community. Halo isn't COD

To start off, I would just like to say, “quit comparing Halo to Call of Duty based on loadouts and sprint.”

  1. Loadouts are essential to the players “personalized” being. People want to PICK what guns they use, CHOOSE what they are good at, EXCEED and play with things that fit their standards.

  2. As I recall there are all KINDS of games that have loadouts and sprint and “call of duty like” gameplay. Loadouts and weapon choice is the new thing for FPS now days. I think that 343i was simply filling the standards of player wanting maximum personalization and customization.

  3. Ordinance drops. Lets ALL compare that to care packages now. 343 knew from the start that Halo 4 multiplayer was going to be based off the UNSC Infinity setting. Thus, having point rewards. I mean, how else can you reward someone for points?

  4. It feels realistic like Call of Duty! NO. Realism is also an important role in games today. If it doesn’t feel “real” then the graphics will be terrible and people will criticize ever harder. The graphics are now native to 720p, and they have to accommodate those “realistic” needs.

All my years of playing Halo, I have noticed something. It IS unique. Like, there is just no other game like it! You know you’re playing “Halo” when you drop into multiplayer or the campaign. Halo is the biggest franchise in video games! You ask someone, “you know Halo right?” And IMMEDIATELY they think of the master chief and him holding his BR or two SMG’s heroically. It’s unique.

Whith that being said, you can only take “unique” so far. There is only so much you can do before the limit is pushed. I think that 343i has very well met the standards of maintaining “uniqueness”, but adding some modern touches with it. Call of Duty isn’t unique. Its realistic men shooting each other with over-rated guns, just like in every FPS. EXCEPT Halo.

343i is a new company on the block having VERY big shoes to fill. They just got the HALO FRANCHISE dropped in their hands from no-where! There WILL be glitches, errors, bugs, etc…but they will be gone in due time. I think 343i is a very capable company, and Halo still beats COD in my opinion.

So all of this adds up to this statement

“Stop comparing Halo 4 to Call of Duty, and stop bashing on 343i for being new”

That is all-

1 and 2 were inevitable changes. They were going to happen sooner or later and I’m sure a decent chunk of the community knew it was coming and to be honest I haven’t seen a single person complain about “realism”. The problem that’s turning me completely off from Halo is the ordinance.

For some reason people are ignoring the implications it’s going to have on long term gameplay. One of the most important things in a typical Halo match was map control. If your team could lock down power weapons, power-ups, or vehicles, you were going to win. It’s not like this was easy to do either, it required coordination with your team and good enough aim to take on whoever on the other team was rushing your position.

Ordinance has destroyed this entirely. A core aspect of Halo,s gameplay is gone and for whatever reason, no one seems to care. I’m not saying the gameplay isn’t good, it’s great. But now I have no reason to push for positions. I have no incentive to go into a high risk situation. I can either hang back and pick people off for a kill-streak or rush into the meat grinder and still get an ordinance drop, regardless of how many times I die.

There’s no reason to play smart anymore. If you do something stupid there aren’t any consequences and it’s made the game boring. You might think it’s fun but not everyone has the same definition of fun.

A lot of people play Halo for it’s competitive side. As it stands, there is nothing here for them.

Well, I know what you’re saying. But at the same time there is still weapon drops pre-game that everyone can rush. Ordinance drops are that “reward” for doing good. People want to be encouraged to go in and play and not camp. I think it’s a good rewarding system. Personally, I ALWAYS get excited and anxious to see what my selections are going to be. It’s fun and adds to the experience.

i fell like barret just got a kill joy on ur rage

But that’s the thing, it’s not hard to get an ordinance drop. They aren’t based off of kills and they don’t reset upon your death

I personally don’t think they have a place in Halo at all, but even still, there were so many better ways they could have been implemented.

In slayer they could have had them reset once you were killed. (I know people would start camping like crazy but as of right now, that’s the only thing I’m seeing people do anyway)

And in objective modes they could make them progress by only doing things that help the team. Things like capturing points, running the flag, stopping enemy flag runners; that sort of thing. Kills wouldn’t progress your counter unless they directly worked towards winning the game. And again they would reset upon death.

At the very least they could have made the high tier drops occur after you had earned a ton of points. It doesn’t make sense to have them be random.
