The vehicles are the worst they’ve ever been. Paper armor just like every vehicle from Reach onward now with the added bonus of damaged parts to make handling even worse.
The handle terribly the vehicles themselves feel floaty with little feeling of momentum(and no CE vehicles still handle better). The Scorpion controls terribly I have no idea how anyone approved of this. The Banshee is pitifully weak and the Chopper can’t destroy vehicles with its ram, aka the entire point of the vehicle how do you get it this wrong? Every vehicle gets hung up on the slightest bump in the terrain making navigating the open world with anything that doesn’t fly a complete chore.
Oh speaking of the open world vehicles feel even weaker than usual because the AI has such insane firing range in an attempt to keep players from cheesing everything at range that you get torn up even while you try to get out of the way and keep your distance.
On the basis of the vehicles alone I can’t fathom how anyone can claim that the “core” of Infinite is any good or worth dealing with the garbage monetization system and threadbare content.
The final weekly challenge is 5 splatters. But vehicles got so nerfed that we don’t get enough time to use them. And since BTB is broken we can’t just spam that mode to get vehicles to splatter with. And since its the ultimate challenge we can’t swap it.
I agree with the OP, specifically in the campaign, I don’t have to many issues with them in MP. Frankly I’m glad they toned down the Banshee, people getting 70+ kills in those things back in MCC is ridiculous (with no proper counter).
Infinite campaign is a different story…you can’t take the land vehicles hardly anywhere of use (so, what’s the point?) And the scorpion is terrible to control. I only used it 2 times (even though I could have had it almost at any point when I unlocked it), I’m pointing forward and the thing is going backwards.
Not to mention the missiles on the hornet are terrible, its like I’m shooting nerf rounds and there having no effect on anything with a shield or a vehicle.
It’s simply not fun to use the wheeled vehicles in this game, they are difficult to control and they flip over too easy. I don’t even bother to drive them, I just jump in the back of the Warhog and use gun.
I would definitely like to see Frags get some effectiveness against Warthogs and Ghosts. I landed 2 Frags underneath a stuck Warthog with a gunner, and the Warthog was like “ehh”. LOL, I thought 2 direct Frags would blow it up or something. At the least, Frags need back the old-school physics and have some blast power to them causing Vehicles to flip.
My other point I want to make is it seems like Ghosts have this super-magnetized plasma shot, and you can barely even shoot at it. So unless you got teammates with stun weapons or something, you gonna get dominated. At least it allowed me to go on a Frenzy in a 4v4.
I have mixed feelings. I loved H5 firefight. That is definitely a vehicle game and I love how the Temple stuff handled. I had 347 kills in a game using the Temple Wraith and ONI scorpion.
That being said, I also had a 133 headshot game. That felt more like Halo to me. Part of me is glad they nerfed the vehicles for Infinite and are reearding people with weapon skill.
And another thing, what is with vehicles suddenly glowing red and then exploding killing the occupants? This is just plain dumb. It doesn’t make any sense that vehicles of completely different contstruction and origin (human made vs. alien made) would all decide to self destruct in the same manner. Please turn this “feature” off 343. I can see that vehicles do a pretty good job of showing gradual damage like flat or missing tires, burning etc. - that’s great. But why does the thing have to blow up unless it’s been hit by something explosive. Just make it stop working if it’s too damaged to run. At the very least get rid of the stupid red glow.
I think the main problem with the vehicles in Infinite’s multiplayer isn’t necessarily the vehicles themselves; it’s the maps that are NOT designed to accommodate them properly. The vehicles are fine, they feel about on par with Reach in terms of endurance (although the Banshee could still probably benefit from another buff or two…)
But Warthogs are an absolute joke now because every single BTB map forces you through extremely narrow, suffocating routes where there’s almost guaranteed to be someone waiting with a dynamo or plasma grenade to ruin your day the instant you drive past. What happened to the wide-open spaces of Standoff, Valhalla, Avalanche, Hemorrhage, etc? On previous Halo maps, taking out vehicles actually took effort and coordination, they were a genuine threat. A competent driver and gunner working together could stay alive and harass the enemy team for several minutes at a time. In Infinite, any Joe Schmoe who happens to have a spare dynamo grenade in their back pocket can instantly stop a Warthog in its tracks, making it a free stationary kill for the rest of the team. On Fragmentation it’s especially bad, because there are only two paths that the Warthog can take from one side of the map to the other, and the dynamo grenades and grappleshot spawn RIGHT next to them (I suppose you can take the route directly through the middle room but that’s even more suicidal).
The Ghost has similar problems, although it has more of a speed advantage and is a smaller target. But overall, the Ghost and Warthog’s main advantage is that they’re fast and maneuverable… which is completely defeated when the entire map is a narrow choke point, with no room to move, and anti-vehicle weapons/abilities on all sides.
The dynamo grenades could also probably use a slight nerf against ground vehicles, maybe make it take an additional tick or two in order to supercombine and disable a vehicle. Air vehicles are fine since they’re much harder to hit with dynamo grenades anyways.
All in all, I never even bother with the Warthog in Infinite unless it’s CTF or unless the enemy team appears to be incompetent, because even one or two halfway decent players that are paying attention and know where certain items spawn can completely demolish Warthogs with almost no effort.
Yeah there are way too many anti vehicle weapons.
Vehicles are a joke and if i ever see anyone in them i almost always know i have free kills coming if i have any anti vehicle weapons which 70-80% of the time i do and if i don’t it is so easy to hide from vehicles since they are restricted to very predictable and linear paths.
I think dynamo nades should have to make direct contact with vehicles to stun and upon impact they are destroyed but the vehicle is stunned. This wpuld make them require some skill because as of now they take 0 skill to use. On top of this we need only one spawn per map and drastically increase its timer so they are not always in multiple peoples hands.
Halo 3 had the power drain and it was perfect. It had a pretty long restock timer and was equipment. I honestly think we would be better moving dynamo nades to equipment if the previous paragraph isn’t doable.
I thought the commando was trash at first too. . With some practice at the shooting range, against bots and in real online gameplay, you can really get a good feel for it and absolutely dominate others with it. l will always pick up a commando over the regular AR and usually over the sidekick as well (for Big team battle).
The falcon would fit in perfectly for mp and campaign. Flying marines around would be awesome, and there’s a complete lack of aerial transport vehicles, unless you count piling on top of a wasp. All of the falcon variants are generally fun to use, and even just the Halo 3 hornet would be a massive improvement to the vehicle sandbox. I really hope 343 adds in vehicle welding from Halo 5 to forge, because we could use it to make really cool changes to the existent vehicles, even if only confined to custom games.
Which vehicles? On which game modes, BTB or normal? Every single day someone on Reddit posts a clip of going 40-0 in Wasp, with a whole team is shooting at him for nothing, very “weak” indeed…
On 4v4 a single vehicle can decimate entire team over and over, and there’s almost nothing you can do unless you’re lucky to respawn near a plasma/dyno nade, or a disruptor. The vehicles are the sole reason I quit games on Launch Site and Behemot, if the enemy team manages to get two you’re left spawn camped for the rest of the game, so again, “weak” indeed.
So it all comes down the mode you’re playing, IMO vehicles should be completed removed from 4v4 and exist only in BTB, which again, if you play for example Fiesta BTB there’s a chance multiple people will respawn with Spanker/Skewer/Sniper and you’re gone in second or two. All in all, I think that adding vehicles into a game without classes like engineer is a mistake and is impossible to balance out anyway, your’re either end up with completely overpowered or completely useless vehicles.
I don’t think it that the vehicle’s are op. I think there still kind of on the week side. But it has more to do with this game not having good anti vehicle guns like the Spartan lazer to deal with tham.
