So here is a discussion thread to post about the story of Halo 5: Guardians and theories about it.
This is all we know of the campaign:
Something/someone is attacking the outer colonies, and is breaking the peace. Something is threatening the entire galaxy, and only Master Chief and Locke can stop it. Unfortunately, MC is gone, so Locke is tasked with finding him and bringing him back. Master Chief seems to be looking for a way to bring back Cortana, and has gone AWOL to the UNSC. Locke needs to learn about Master Chief and his ways, and has interrogated multiple people including the Arbiter, who is partaking in battles on presumed Sanghelios. The Covenant and Prometheans are back, due to the weapons in multiplayer. A major setting seems to be the desert landscape, which is probably Sanghelios, but it could be a Forerunner installation.
You will play as Master Chief and Agent Locke, but maybe Arbiter as well. Either way, the Arbiter will take a role in the story, as well as the Didact.
My theory is that the Flood are attacking in the masses, and MC is needed to combat the Flood. MC is looking for the remains of the Didact and Cortana (since the Didact was composed and sent to the Composer’s Abyss. Cortana could have transported herself through the Mantle’s Approach [Didact’s ship at end of Halo 4] and been sent to the Abyss as well, and been taken by the Didact’s remains.). MC will have to ask the Didact for help to fight the Flood, trying to recruit his Prometheans. The Didact won’t be the antagonist of Halo 5, but will be a side character. Meanwhile, the Covenant Storm (Halo 4 enemies) need to be stopped from attacking the outer colonies, and Locke is trying to help the Arbiter.
That is just my underdeveloped plot, so what do you think? What do you believe to be in Halo 5 regarding its campaign?
-Locke shows up on Sanghelios only to find out that The Ur didact followers have grown massively larger and decided o take over the planet. UNSC ofers to help.
-We are cut to Master Chief who is i na Shield World accompained by the Librarian trying to ressurect his personnal strip teaser (Cortana.)
-Master Chief discovers The Didact going nuts and trying to wake the Flood.
-Back to Sanghelios the war is gonig worst and the leader of he invader army reveals that the Old Ones wil lreturn (precursors.)
-Back to the shield world master Chief fights the didact for one last time but The Primordial is ressurected.

Sounds great, but the Didact would never release the Flood. The Flood is the common enemy of humans and Forerunner. I imagine near the middle/end of Halo 5, the Didact is about to kill you, but a Gravemind attacks and grabs the Didact. The Didact is violently infected in front of Master Chief, and MC escapes.
Hmm, I think it is similar to this, but not the Flood. Probably the Storm Covenant and Forerunner stuff, probably relating to how the Didact helped the Covenant Remnants.
Also MC contained the Didact inside of the Composer after Halo 4 ended.

As much as I like this plot, because I would LOVE to see the Precursors make an appearance in the games, or at least have some kind of presence, didn’t the Didact exterminate the Primordial at the end of Primordium?
We know the Didact will make a return, but in what form or fashion? Will he be the main antagonist again (I hope not, because that would be lame), a supporting antagonist, or on Chief’s/Arbiter’s side? I feel like there are going to be a lot of different sides conflicting with each other, including the humans, but the theory behind the Didact followers on Sanghelios growing in very large numbers makes a lot of sense, and I like it, and that is why Locke and the humans are there to assist.
It seems like a very grave threat is rising, even worse than the Didact, and I hope it has something to do with the Precursors in some way, and it’s not just the Flood, because we’ve seen that. And old Forerunner technology needs to be awoken or brought back in order to combat it (The Guardians).

The Flood needs to come back, they’re the base of the original Halo games. Didn’t the Primordial say that the Flood wasn’t ready to test humanity yet?
But it’s not really good/bad sides, only the Flood is truly evil. There is the humans, Prometheans, Swords of Sanghelios, and the Storm Covenant, with different alliances and such. The Didact, for instance, would ally with humanity to combat the Flood, should it be a large outbreak.

The Primordial may’ve said this, but I thought he/it was dead.
I don’t have a problem with the Flood returning, just don’t make them exactly the way they’ve appeared in previous games, and then make them the main antagonist again. I know the Precursors pretty much created the Flood, so it would be interesting to see them tied in somehow to make the threat seem more daunting and fresh.

Yeah the Primordial is dead.
But yeah, I want to see the Flood as they actually are, and not the tiny enemy the Xbox 360 was maxed at.
A theory that another member of the forums (forgot name) made a while back was that the element from Halo: Nightfall is being used across Human Colonies by the Covenant remnants to conduct terrorist attacks and that the UNSC has not yet found a cure for the disease it causes. It it believed that the Master Chief’s blood contains the cure because he was “biologically evolved” by the Librarian in Halo 4 and so the UNSC/ONI has sent Agent Locke to find the MC and bring him back alive.

Locke is a playable character.

That is actually a really plausible theory. I mean, why introduce that element in Nightfall and not use it as canon?

It would also answer the question as to why the UNSC/ONI gave Agent Locke the mission. He is one of the few people to encounter the origin of the element.
accurate for the most part, but I think there are a few flaws. first of all, the the didact survived the fall, getting teleported into slip space onto a shield world where Spartan team black was killed by him. The chief and blue team tries to kill the didact, but fails and he escapes, but discovering that there are 6 more composers. they meet an AI similar to 343 guilty spark, who explains the situation at hand. they teleport to a halo installation with the didact, chief activates the ring, killing the didact, while he teleports away before the blast. (info may be off see halo escalation for more details)also the flood would quickly consume the human colonies in a matter of weeks or even days
The didact was turned to ashes in the end of the halo escalation comic book, even tough the chief said that he was merely contained, probably meaning that he got composed, in this case, the didact will have to find a cybernetic body. The flood are still roaming around, as every other halo ring has its own lab full of them and there are other forerunner installations that were used to study flood and still contain specimens, like the gas mine.
The Didact was composed. This is confirmed! Why are people still asking about what happened with the Didact? He will appear in Halo 5, but probably isn’t the main enemy.

Most people have not read Escalations.
Which is why Halo 5 needs to bridge the events between Halo 4 and 5 better.
The events of the latest issue of Escalations has given me pause as to what to expect.
I had originally believed that the Storm would manage to steal the second half of the Janus key, but with the introduction of this possibly superior splinter in the covenant, it’s possible that the Covies will be fully rejuvenated under his control. It’s pretty clear from the Master Chief collection’s epilogue of Arbiter and Locke facing Covenant forces that they clearly persist.
My guess is that the covenant as whole, not just the storm, will break the truce under the new Prophet (New Elite leader, I forgot his name) and attack the outer colonies, with or without the Halo element bombs.
The Flood returning may act as a third force. And Promies returning is a given, but I seriously doubt they’ll be anything more than a part of the covenant.
