I want to start off and say I think having a skill ranking system is a GREAT thing. But this post is not about that. I am a casual player. I never really have anyone to play with so a lot of times I get paired up with bad kids and lose A LOT. I consider myself a pretty good PvP player considering I play alone. This is the main reason why I loved the ranking system in Halo Reach. There was always forward progression and when you got past all the regular military ranks it gave you named ranks. I never actually achieved thoes high ranks but it gave me something to strive for and when I saw someone with them I respected it. So why can’t we have both ranking systems? I am a hardcore casual and this is my plea to 343
tl;dr - I am a hardcore casual and I want a meaningful ranking system(not just numbers) similar to halo reach along with the skill ranking system!
edit: Lots of people voting no. Can someone explain to me why it’s such a bad idea to have both ranking systems? Am I missing somthing?
edit 2: Must be a lot of sweaties who visit these forums. I don’t see any harm in implementing a system that does nothing but show how much you play the game. All it is is a visual rank it’s not like it would effect you sweaties… But I guess most of yall are to selfish to want to cater to the casuals. Seriously it would hurt nobody to support it and implement it. SR is a dumb idea by the way … It didn’t work in halo 4. Having names in the ranks instead of numbers well it means more (to me at least) especially when you get a high enough rank. I heard someone else say it would improve the long term use of the game. Look at how much time people put into grinding Reach and Cods ranks! I’m just saying… There is nothing wrong with giving casuals what they want while competitive people get what they want. Thanks for your time everyone (:
I don’t really see how something achieved through grind to be all that meaningful, just with names rather than numbers.
That being said there is going to be a separate linear progression system(I believe its called Spartan Ranks in H5), so even if you are playing unranked Warzone you will be leveling that way regardless, which should earn you points/req packs, so I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Reach’s system was really not representative of skill. It represented how long you played for, and sadly, people can play a game for years and still be bad. 60% of Inheritors, Mythics and so on were usually worse than an average Warrant Officer. And in scenarios where they were actually good, you’d get teamed up with a bunch of recruits, against a full party of Forerunner and above leveled guys, which normally resulted in nearly instant loss and half the team quitting. That system was pretty flawed.
We have CSR and SR. SR is what you were talking about. Yes, you may think the numbers arent meaningful, but If your a 100 going up against a 250, it feels the same as a reach warrant officer up against an inheritor.

Sorry O powerful one. I don’t normally come to these forums so I am not up to speed on the rules. Thanks for understanding.

I neve said it was skill… I personally just respected it when I saw it.

What outside?Impossible xD
@Delta Whyskey
I am fine with decisions right now.
But yeah an overall ranking(or an Comandation Ranking)would be nice for random players.
The Idea of REQ’s sound smilar to this at least you can fight your way to get thos cards and have somthing to play for.

Yes, but you mentioned not wanting to be teamed up with bad kids, and the only true way to achieve that is through a skill system.
Im not competitive all the time and im not what people call casual. I do believe they should have an unranked version of arena and something like a custom games browser. Being competitive is not bad but there should be a balance between that and relaxation/fun .They have yet to do a dev blog on custom games unless I missed it…
i simply say no as i don’t feel like you need a meaningless system that rewards failure. if you play well you will go up and avoid the really bad people, or you can play warzone which is a lot more tuned to casuals than arena
