Let's talk about the "Halo Bro" Moments.

Hey Halo Fans!

So, earlier this month (Feb. 5th) I was browsing Game Informer’s website and came across a post the team there had made about the changes being made in Halo 5 after the beta. (You can find said story here.)

Listed in these changes is this bit., “Halo 5 will also be presented a bit differently in final form. 343 is toning down the “Halo bro” moments for fewer chest bumps and high fives upon victory.”

Now I’m not sure exactly how much this is going to be toned down and so on, but I wanted to see what you ladies and gentleman thought about this.

My opinion on the matter is this. When I was playing the Halo 5: Beta, I really enjoyed the cocky intros in the beginning of the match and the celebrations at the end. To me, it provided a spirit of being on a team of friends and reminded me that I was playing a video game while having some good old fashion fun in competitive form.

To better explain myself, I also participated in the Battlefield Hardline Beta recently and found myself in love with the new ‘Hotwire’ game mode where players control marked vehicles to earn points which leads to giant moments of chaos with racing sedans packed with cops and crooks leaning out the windows with rocket launchers, noob tubes and assault rifles. It makes for great gaming and great laughs.

The point I’m making is that I don’t need a story for my multiplayer. I don’t need to know why these Spartans are fighting or why they decided to rep blue instead of red and vice versa. I just like playing the game, causing some chaos and having fun. I feel like the “Halo Bro” moments amplified that for me.

Of course this isn’t a game changing decision, a deal breaker or anything of the sort. I’m just curious to what you, the fans, think of the decision.

Thanks for reading!

(P.S. I was unable to find a ‘search forum’ button so if a similar thread exists, sorry!)

I have to say that i’m neutral on the matter. I couldn’t care less what they do with it, it doesn’t bother me.

I enjoy them, but toning them down would be an improvement, IMO.

Me no like.

Why do you feel this way? Do you think it was over done in the beta?

I know that seems like an odd question but seeing that you like them but would like to see them toned down at the same time confuses me a bit.

I personally didn’t like them at the beginning but towards the end they just became meh to me. I ignored them for the most part.

Isn’t don’t care and neutral the same thing? I mean if you are neutral about it, you don’t care. Eh whatever I enjoy them.

It’s a good idea, and synergises well with the increased need for teamwork, but perhaps a tad overdone. The beginning is fine, but the end, particularly the three-person one, was perhaps a tad overdone.

I dont really mind them sometimes i like them because its what i want to do to my teammates when we win but i think if you lose you shouldnt see the other team shove it in your face

They need to be amped up. The following changes are mandatory:

  • The closer the game, the more hardcore the bro moments become. Nothing…not even skill-based ranks…will keep players hungrier than losing 50-49 and seeing the opposing team absolutely have their way with them in the postgame with those sick guitar riffs.- Customized bro moments based on time played or wins. This will be a good EXP type non-skill rank. The more time you log, the more “bro” your moments can get.- Guitar riffs need to be louder.- The t-bag should be an option.

I thought the bro-downs were extremely ridiculous. I mean, these guys are supposed to be the best of the best soldiers, not 14 year old football players. And yes, I’ve heard all the arguments saying that it shows team spirit and camaraderie, but it’s gone waaaaayyy too far. After finishing a game, you can almost hear the Spartans going “BRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOO, WE WON!” “YEEAAAH BRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, HIGH FIVE BRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOO!”. It’s stupid, and if our Spartan is supposed to represent us as a player, then they shouldn’t force us to be immature -Yoinks!-. Then again, that’s the image that 343i has been trying to give to the Spartan-IVs all along, maybe they’re trying to get us to hate them…

And don’t even get me started when a 3-player team ends up winning and you get a whole new set of bro-down animations. The guy on the left in those situations looks like he’s so excited about his victory that he’s about to get off on the idea, so he pumps his fists 1000 times just to show it off. Honestly, who does that? Once again, you can just tell that he’s yelling out “Oh yeah bro, I won bro, I f-ing oon so bad bro, f- yeah, bro, BRO!” It’s so bad. It’s not even realistic either, I can’t say that I have ever met anybody who is actually that much of a “bro”, even the most hardcore sports players.

Spartans should be more humble, or at the very least, a bit more mature. I can’t see Buck or any of the ODST squad acting like children, so why should these guys?

Well first off I don’t care for them and I’m neutral are more or less the same thing, but I went with I don’t care for them because that’s supposed to be the “I don’t like them” option methinks. They honestly added nothing and it’s just giving me more reason to dislike Spartan IVs. Yea it’s a competition, but these guys are supposed to be the best humanity has to offer and they can’t just treat it like a game because if it were a live operation, they’d be dead. Granted the call-outs in game seem to feel a bit more authentic and professional, but overall they should be treating it a bit more similar to Ender’s game. A little competition is encouraged, but the main point of the simulations is to keep you sharp and help you learn from your mistakes and make you a better soldier, not “bruh gr8 gam3. Fist bump and pump and high fives. Such l337, very MC.”

Look at how Locke and his team act as opposed to DeMarco, Madson, and Hoya. The former is professional and intimidating, and the latter is a bunch of cocky prisses who just look really stupid 90% of the time. Thorne was about the only team member on Majestic who actually kind of resembled how someone would react (at least in my mind)

so yea, I dislike the bro downs and am happy they are being toned down for the final game. Now if only they say “sniper” and “rockets” instead of “snipes” and “rocks.” It isn’t even a major reduction in the slightest and it made me cringe every time.

I think it gives them character. Everyone has always complained of master chief being a wall. So I guess this gives them the little “Human” aspect of a soldier.

While the bro moments did make sense (these new spartans are just marines and ODSTS after all) and I myself lean towards the “bro” lifestyle while I’m at the university, I still don’t like it enough to want it in game.

I think it’s good that they are toning it down but I think they should keep it there and just work on it.

Some celebration is good they should just make it less “bro”

haha i like where your head is at,

I don’t mind them, actually quite enjoyed them really, but if the decision was to remove them then I wouldn’t complain. I see a lot of people mentioning that Spartans shouldn’t be acting like this and I can agree to a certain extent. The premise around War Games is that they are simulations Spartans are playing out on board the Infinity - this is both training for them when they are out on the front line, but also a bit of relaxation as well (hello Griffball and Ricochet). I’m quite sure when they are out there defending the UNSC they will have their game faces on. It actually makes me think back to Forward Unto Dawn and Lasky running games

They annoyed me. I’m glad they’re toning them down.

I liked them. Nothing like a good high five.
