I can understand why 343 didn’t go the route of bringing back the bubble shield, but why this?
It’s by far the most useless equipment in the game at the moment, and I fail to see how that will change.
They should have just reworked the bubble shield to have destroyable panels.

I actually really like that idea. Feel like it would look great visually too.
Dropshield has its uses, but it’s so situational I would rather have any other equipment equipped at any given time and even when I do have it I often don’t use it as it’s the least versatile of the bunch and the situation rarely arises where I’d even want to take the time to use it. Maybe for different players it is more handy, newer players may really like it.
Here’s a question for anyone reading this, does the Dropshield block the grapple? Maybe we will discover some really cool ways to use it in a more competitive environment but mostly now it is just good for preemptively blocking grenades/rockets.

I actually really like this idea, or at least making the Dropwall provide a bit more coverage in terms of angles. I found the current dropwall much harder to use creatively than the Grappleshot or Repulsor to actually turn the tide of an encounter.
Drop shield is good for fortifying a position, drop it and pull out your precision gun. When someone comes across your screen you get a few damage free bursts and win the fight. It’s good for windows and breaks in walls so you don’t have to be completely exposed.
It has its uses. I’m wondering though if its utility is too low still, or if we just haven’t found more creative uses for it yet. To be fair I always go for Grappleshot or Repulsor, or when I do pick up the Dropwall I don’t use it enough to experiment with it.
I do see a lot of players asking for an even faster deployment which is the wrong decision to make in buffing this, since its not meant to be a get-out-of-jail-free card in the heat of battle and more so as an encounter setup tool.
I’m hesitant to say to give it a shield strength buff, but if it needed a buff that would be the way to go. If it becomes too strong, you could reduce its ammo count by 1 and/or give it back its longer deployment time. I will say though that I haven’t tried stacking two of them on top of each other yet; I don’t even know if that is even possible with just one person using it though since I think the shield runs out before you can deploy another one?
If you’re claiming it’s fine you aren’t seeing straight. Just wait until we get into BTB. Until now we’ve played on maps with corridors and choke points, those are complimentary to the drop wall. How are you going to use it on BTB maps with huge open spaces, when you get shot from every direction? You’ll quickly see how badly implemented it is I’m sure
The dropwall is meant as more of a “Rocket coming lemme drop this” Kind of this, or provide a little more protection but it’s not strong enough to be a proper barricade. I’d prefer it to be more of a deployable cover than reaction-based thing, personally.

The bubble shield is fun to use but isn’t fun to play. I DO like trapping people in there with grenades, that’s very fun! But it’s never fun to BE trapped.
Every mechanic in a game has to be fun for both players, otherwise it’s a failure of a mechanic.

It’s not replacement a replacement for the bubble shield. The best way to think about it as using it proactively rather than reactively. I actually like this train of thought as it adds to the decision making process. The bubble shield felt way too OP and the duration encouraged baiting with the shotgun of energy sword.
Having said that I hope the equipment system is modular enough to bring back older games equipment in LTMs or certain modes.
I think if they just buffed the shield strength by like 25% and made it to where it takes 2 grenades instead of 1 to destroy, then it could be somewhat useful for holding down a position. It’s just too weak to be even kinda useful, especially when compared to how useful the other abilities are.

Who’s asking for the OG bubble shield??
I said a bubble shield with destroyable panels would be better, not the OG version. Just wait for BTB. If you think the drop shield has genuine utility you’re in a for a big surprise

People keep spouting this proactive rather than reactive argument as if they’re making this really profound point. Fact of the matter is the game is way too fast to be using drop shields ‘proactively’. Half the time you’d be dropping it only for no one to come around the corner. It’s not the slightest bit practical.
