Let's talk about slayer "pro"

While I don’t an inherent problem with the “pro” game type (as it was in previous games, at least), I can’t help but feel that this variant is just all wrong in Halo 4. The first problem is an assault rifle class. Combine this with no radar and great times are sure to be had. Isn’t the purpose of the pro game type to reward skilled play, not people crouching with assault rifles?

This is more of a problem with the maps a la the most recent balance changes, but why is there an energy sword that respawns rapidly on Haven? This wasn’t even on the map before, so I really don’t see why it suddenly is…and in pro types. My tool of destruction on this map is regularly sword at this point, and somehow I can’t feel that’s a little bit different than “pro” gameplay.

Again revolving around weapon spawns, I don’t understand why there are sniper rifles on adrift. Now, don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge that the sniper rifle is the greatest weapon of all time in any media ever. Nothing compares, it’s just that damn good. My problem is the fact that there’s two snipers that respawn rapidly on a map with long lines of sight. It’s like playing BTB on hemorrhage, it’s -Yoinking!- agonizing if you’re not the one with a sniper. Oh, there’s also a sword on this map.

Granted, none of this will happen, these are just the things I’d like to see be changed. Anyone else have suggestions on how to make “pro” more true to its name?

I couldn’t care less about Pro if they added Team Slayer. Seeing as how most people don’t want to be playing Pro, or else they’d just go to the Throwdown playlist, but would rather have something that isn’t Infinity slayer, Pro needs to become more like Regular Slayer at the moment. If Team Slayer existed, Pro wouldn’t have these conflicts.

Until there’s Team Slayer I wouldn’t expect Pro to get anymore “Pro”.

And the population was successfully split and everyone turned on each other for not voting for their favorite option. Multiple ways to play the game in one playlist doesn’t work well except in Social and Action Sack.

God, did I love Team Duals and Team Rockets when it wasn’t The Pit or Snowbound, which are the only two maps that pop up in Halo 3 anymore.

I like pro… But if there was a normal slayer option I’d probably play that. In other words, anything but Infinity Slayer.

You’ll be glad to hear they will be adding in radar to Pro come Monday.

The OP is correct in his assessment. ‘Pro’ is almost a throwaway term in this instance as the goal with the pro settings isn’t to make a set of gametypes that are as competitive as possible, but rather a set of gametypes that are slightly more competitive than the standard ones.

This is because the majority of players are turned off by settings that are ‘too pro’.

Also why the Slayer Pro playlist did so poorly when it started off back in November. The Pro/MLG playlist has never been the most popular, anyone that looks through the playlists would’ve just assumed it was the MLG playlist and moved on waiting for Team Slayer to come along.

Admittedly I don’t have a problem with pro variants, I just don’t want them to be very similar and/or in the default slayer playlists. Sick of seeing ‘slayer pro’ as the voting option on 3 different maps, especially in BTB.

I want them to have a pro playlist, not built in to infinity slayer. I don’t want to play pro,I want to feel like a Spartan with armour abilities and -Yoink-, anyone that wants pro can have their own game thing but, if infinity slayer didn’t ordnance drops I think more people would play that. Slayer pro was never a popular game type (lets be honest), I do think however they could make standard slayer more popular by completely removing ordnance and changing the maps to not have powerups.

Well they can stop calling it Slayer Pro then because Pro doesn’t have radar.
