Let's talk about maps

Today IGN posted videos on the maps Pegesus and Orion so now we’ve seen what this beta has to offer maps wise. Personally I think only about 50% are up to standards of where truly memorable Halo maps should be. I love both Truth and Regret and Empire plays pretty well but feels mediocre. Eden just feels lazy to me. The breakout maps both do a good job for the game type imo. Pegesus and Orion look awful due to them looking like every other boring forge map so hopefully they add the ability to change forge peice textures in the retail release. Are you satisfied with how the maps are shaping up? Also am I selfish for wanting Lockout to be remade again even though it was just put into the MCC and it would function differently with the new game physics?

Only Regret really irks me. Too many openings to be shot from.

I didn’t mind Truth it was alright, Empire was decent too. Not a fan of the two current ones though, and I’ve always hated forge maps, can’t stand them.
Hopefully the other maps in reserve are shaping up to be good.

I’ve posted my feelings on the week 2 maps a ton.

Truth and Empire felt amazing, simplistic and played well. Regret and Eden dont do it for me (although I find Eden to do better with the sniper than empire). Regret feels like a last minute addition, it doesn’t look or feel good, but the atmosphere is there. I’m not a big fan of dev forge made maps, looks like an easy way out (Bungie with reach anyone?). Even the remixes feel cheated.

If we get 8 good maps (truth and empire) the other half are probably going to consist of remixes and forge made maps. Not to include large maps. Unless 343 is looking to give us 30 or so maps, I think the maps are going to feel like reach. Not good and ripped off. Which is a shame, because the game itself feels great.

I’ll save my final judgments for the launch.

The reason why ‘Pegasus’ and ‘Orion’ look “awful” is because its a WIP, so not ALL the textures are final. In the final game, they’ll have better textures

Regret is my favorite map so far. I don’t feel like there are too many openings at all. There’s actually quite a bit of cover compared to Truth and unlike Truth, going into bottom or even top mid isn’t a death-wish

In their current state they look remarkably similar to Halo 4’s final forge textures so that’s what worries me.

Truth is solid.
Regret is meh.
Empire is nice (snipes ftw!)
Eden is all sorts of fxcked up lol.
Crossfire? Is a decent breakout map but there are only so many play options.
The skinny breakout map I forget the name is just god awful.

Regret is garbage and I’d rather sit through 200 games of Sword base rather than play 1 game of Regret.

I just want a Flood themed map. Just one, please.

Orion’s rocks look very nice, but other forge pieces are too white and bright

Eden is terrible. The others are pretty good. It would be nice to see some classics brought back. Like relic and turf from halo 2 and please remake blood gultch again.

I remember I used to want to explore the maps in previous Halo games they were so good. Something about both the design AND the atmosphere gave those maps a lot of character. Halo 4 lacked that.

That said, I want Halo 5 to bring back the idea of dynamic and atmospheric maps. There was just something about maps like Guardian, High Ground, and Sandtrap that kept me on Halo 3 for the longest time.

I’m really liking the map layouts so far. I don’t see why everyone hates on regret though. People hated that truth was too big now and regrets design leads to many more close quarter engagements than truth does. Surprisingly I like Eden as well and I’m not a big fan of the asymmetric maps. I think the combination of the new movement mechanics and the map designs are what really have me hooked on halo 5 so far.

Cant stand Eden… and the 2 new forge maps dont excite me either… they excite me cos we can get an idea of what forge pieces we can get but thats the only reason i want to play them, looking at each piece on the map carefully in the videos, looks like we have alot of new cool pieces to use!
