let's talk about Halo 6...

Share your ideas of what you would like to see(or not too see) in Halo 6. Would you like it to be called something other than “Halo 6?” Should it keep the same style of artwork in Halo 5:Guardians? Should the REQ System return? Let’s talk about it!

I’ll reply to your post because I feel bad that no one else has yet, and for once I will actually be dead nuts serious and not sarcastically making unconstructive smart comments (as I usually do these days when discussing the future of the franchise).

I don’t mind the direction that I think 343 TRIED to go in with the Created arc, in the sense that I believe, as far back as Halo 4, there may have been a desire to institute a “neo-Forerunner” empire, a “neo-Ecumene”, as the new big bad threat in the universe - putting the Haloverse back into an appropriately dark place that it hasn’t been in since the Covenant fell, with the UNSC as the gross underdog again.

But I don’t believe for one minute that until late in Halo 5’s development, it was intended to be led by Cortana 2.0 and AI’s. The institution of this neo-Ecumene did not in any way shape or form require them to completely utterly ruin Cortana’s character as they did. I’m not 100% sure who the primary antagonist was going to be before the reboot - possible candidates include:

  • the Didact
  • the Librarian
  • Halsey
  • Jul

I also think Mendicant Bias might have been a good candidate although they likely weren’t going in that direction because that would be too obscure of an EU reference for casuals who only play the games and have no clue who Mendicant Bias is.

I think possibly the most constructive thing they could do at this juncture is to try to get things back on the intended track they planned before Halo 5 was rebooted late into development - continue with the neo-Ecumene idea, but perhaps move on from the Cortana 2.0/AI element as quickly as possible. Bring the Didact back and perhaps with Mendicant Bias’ help, he defeats Cortana and takes control of the neo-Ecumene for himself. I could cautiously buy into that. A helluva lot more than I could buy into the notion of battling Cortana for the next 10 years. I have positively no interest in that.

How I’d love to see Halo 6 play out is that the Infinity links up with the Arbiter and our two resident A Teams Osiris and Blue Team. From here they begin harassing this new created Empire but barely make a dent in the entire engine of war that is going on around them. In response the Created find Infinity and knock her almost entirely out of the fight. They need a new solution. By some macguffin level where they sneak something or a cutscene idk they find a faint signal from the Ark from an unknown AI construct. From here they plan an intricate plan to get Infinity or at least the two spartan Fireteams to the Ark. And that either goes off without a hitch or they barely succeed (I mean captured because without infinity they’d be screwed) now John and company are on the ark and they begin to start hunting for this construct. Through Macguffin devices they find Mendicant Bias who’s solution is something I hadn’t gotten that far. But solution whatever it is puts Cortana’s head on the chopping block and this doesn’t set off the Chief but it makes him unsettled this is someone he cares about dearly. From this the whole operation goes ahead. Over the course of this whole plot you see a shift for the first 3-4 missions Osiris are the most human of the two, they’re being human in cutscenes, working out chatting, they’re doing other things while Blue Team while they’re talking they are doing things that are objective orientated, everything said during the missions is clean cut there’s no smack talk post firefight there isn’t any tallies. as you get into the tale end of this plot this dynamic shifts. When they start to deal almost directly with Cortana Osiris shifts, they’ve been burnt badly by Cortana, her created have specifically gone and targeted their families (or something like that) because they took John away from Cortana and that’s unacceptable. Because of this when they start planning cutting the head off the snake they start getting serious. They start doubling down on that idea and that scares John because even though she’s a crazy psycho now he still cares for her (which should have been telegraphed in 5 but they made him an emotional mary sue but hey!) so in the last few levels leading up to the OK Coral theres a shift, the smack talk by Osiris stops or shifts to a more serious tone and their chats post operation become objective orientated whereas Blue Team (particularly John but Blue Team is involved) begins to start focusing on Cortana, his focus shifts to an objective way to bring her back, get Cortana back conversations with Halsey, Almost breakdowns as he works to process what’s about to happen, what’s happened. He’s breaking down now because his orders from Halo CE combined with Johnson’s never let her go from halo 3 has become almost a personal life goal. When the actual operation begins they get through it though the chief is still hesitant to fire for the first time in his entire life. And when it gets to the end after fighting a number of different wardens. He gets to a point where he has his metaphorical gun pointed at her head. Here he can’t do it he begins to shake but he eventually puts her down. The created uprising ends (mostly) and depending on the plan the game mostly finished the chief finds a small piece of cortana uncorrupted by her rampant parts and it stays with him as a limited shield for him which he keeps but finally moves past his over attachment. But in this moment he is more human than he ever was and answers who the Machine really was out of the two.

I just want the flood, brutes and there weapons/vehicles, and drones back

I really would love to see some more development of Blue Team. They’re so great in the books and they’re so legendary in the Halo story. The fact that they only got 3 missions in H5 broke my heart. Really hoping for a better story in H6.

Halo 2A type music again.
