Let's talk about Halo 6

TO LONG, DIDN’T READ VERSION: Please, no more remix maps, quality armor over quantity of armor, official maps that have variety, and playable elites, iconic halo music)

So, let me start of by saying I have high hopes for it, I’ve been playing Halo since I was very young, Halo CE was my first Halo game, and the main reason I bought the original xbox. The path Halo has been going has hurt it more than anything, but I feel that Halo 6 can finally be great.

Halo games aren’t what they used to be, and before someone jumps in saying “Get out of here Bungie fanboy!” Please, hear me out. People are literally shooting anyone down who disagrees with the direction 343 here on Halo Waypoint, what people don’t understand is that Halo is dying. Yes, it is.

Statistics:

Fun fact as said in the post “Roughly a year after release, Halo 3 had a 1.1 million peak population day. Reach had a 900,000 peak population day after the same amount of time. Halo 4 clocks in at 20,000 peak for it’s annual checkup.”

People may claim “Oh, well its competitors, they’re the reason Halo isn’t as successful.” If that is what you’re claiming, you’re only helping prove my point. Shouldn’t 343 try their best to beat competitors, shouldn’t they try something innovated, something that’ll catch attention? They also had the SAME competitors back then, Call Of Duty was a thing, Battlefield was a thing, etc. So stop blaming competitors.

What about Halo 5 showed innovation? Lack of almost every game mode at release? Nearly all the maps and free dlc maps being just pure reskins with a few changes? Remix’s need*** to go, they’re making multiplayer bland, and a dull experience.

Look at the past Halo games, they all have a large variety and maps, colors, and settings. Whilst nearly every map featured in Halo 5 (Excluding warzone) was an indoor facility, and all the future maps were just remix’s of them, some remix’s having almost NO difference, while some were decent.

What about the fact there wasn’t a SINGLE official BTB map, and that they gave us forged maps and counted them towards our “Free” DLC.

You know why other Halo’s succeeded? The developers were passionate, they made us beautiful maps, all unique, they were outdoors, and fun to explore, whilst in Halo 5, once you’ve seen half the maps the game has to offer, you’ve seen them all.

I will say this, Halo 5 did a GREAT job bringing back the original mechanics, I loved arena, I just thought the map design was poor.

Now, onto the armors…
Halo 5, is literally ten pounds of gravy on a teaspoon of potatoes. They have over 200 sets of armor/helmets, but the catch is nearly all of them look alike, the body armor is almost impossible to distinguish (There’s some that stand out, but most of it looks as if it is random shapes and cylinders) It’s overly complex, and just not pretty to look at. I feel that they should put more effort into making armor distinguishable, rather than trying to make as many as they can, quality, not quantity.

Another thing, playable elites. Now before you say it doesn’t fit in with lore ELITES TRAIN ALONGSIDE SPARTANS IN THE ANVIL PROGRAM*** There is literally no reason for Halo 6 to not take place in the Anvil program, a decent majority of players miss being an elite, the longest running thread on waypoint is PURELY dedicated towards bringing them back, and that behemoth of a thread needs to be acknowledged, and Halo 6 should return the feature. Another thing, yes, keep them out of competitive, make them warzone only, and social game types only.

I have high hopes for Halo 6, and I really hope they outdo themselves. I do seem some improvements in Halo 5, and I definitely prefer it over Halo 4. I’m SO glad they brought back some of the iconic music that Bungie’s Halo had, and hope to see more music like it. Halo 4’s OST was just too quiet, and not so memorable. The choirs, the guitars, everything in the older Halo’s was so iconic, it stood out so much, whilst Halo 4’s didn’t stand out, it wasn’t unique, and congrats on bringing back some of the iconic Halo sounding music. Good job on that Kazuma, I hope you bring back more iconic music for 6.

Also, I’m not trying to tell you liking Halo 4 is wrong, but clearly it wasn’t the right path to take Halo, and Halo 5 being a slight improvement, will need a lot more to regain the throne.

I think you would have more responses if you didn’t have the insane wall of text which I won’t read. I did glance at it. We can debate forever why the population has fallen off. but I think until 343 and or Microsoft do a poll in the game or on XBL nobody can really say for sure.
But I can tell you, based on my experience, the only change for H6 I would want is :

  1. for the MP side is to remove spartan charge.
  2. have more maps at launch,
  3. have at least a few more gametypes at launch
  4. make the campaign story goes that Cortana is really being corupted by the Didact and or Gravemind. I would really prefer that the Didact had teamed up with the Gravemind. That would bring the series full circle and end it and then they can have spinoff games like Buck as a spartan getting his own team (I did not like ODST, but loved him in H5)
  5. Add AI to forge thus making the game unlimited in terms of replay ability.
  6. Have a Forge-Slayer beta type which makes up player made maps that if done well the maps would be moved to regular MP if they are liked enough This alone could mean 50+ maps, this would be huge and no other shooter is doing this. This would be innovative. People love content. Content sells games. Content will keep players.

I’d like to see Chris Schlerf or Joseph Staten write the story for Halo 6. And have either of them conclude the stories from Halo 4, and Spartan Ops. Both very interesting stories that never got conclusions. (well, kind of, but not really)

And not let Brian Reed write the story this time…

Keep Kazuma Jinnouchi writing the music.

More game types at launch. + Other content (including REAL BTB maps, have casual playlists)

Better Spartan customization.

Get rid of Spartan Companies that can ear special armors (biggest reason we still have farming)

I could go on…

I hate needing to write something so long, but there’s literally nothing I could’ve done to shorten it, these are serious issues that 343 needs to understand.

I agree, we need quality over quantity. But the biggest problem isn’t that they’re indistinguishable, it’s that they’re horribly ugly. More often than not, the helmets are too ugly to even consider wearing, which significantly detracts from my enjoyment of the game. Now the visors, on the other hand, need to be a LOT more distinguishable. Edit: Also please don’t misuse the word “literally”. Halo 5 is FIGURATIVELY ten pounds of gravy on a teaspoon of potatoes.

As far as I know, the term “wall of text” only refers to long posts that aren’t broken up into paragraphs.

YES we need this so badly!

Halo 5, is literally ten pounds of gravy on a teaspoon of potatoes - I am going to steal this line. had a good laugh. Truly this part def bothered me. I don’t care to have that many armors, but make em different for crying out loud.

I never thought I’d say this, but here goes: I miss the days of Halo 3…

…when people longed for things that mattered like weapons that worked, balanced multiplayer, ranking systems that weren’t arbitrarily favoring some and shafting others. You know. Things that actually make a real difference to players’ experiences. Unlike what you’re wearing or whether you have two jaws or one, or I don’t even know what half of that other stuff is all about. So thanks. Thanks for making me actually miss the 2007 - something I thought I would never do.

or when friends come to you to enjoy a 4-play-split-screen multiplayer

As long as no one complains about the Sprint and Clamber, most of these ideas are decent. But I’m still gonna say that I like 343’s art style more than Bungie’s.

Clamber and sprint ant whatnot are not the real problems, it’s the fact everything else feels so fake.

One question. Do you dislike the new look they gave the Covy vehicles? 'Cause I like to think that they look more “alien” in Halo 5 than in any other Halo.

I don’t mind them at all, I do really prefer the old ones, but I welcome these changes.

Now they can stay home, drink their own beer, and still play with me. How is that a lose?

They could do that before as well. But at least both options were there. Now, they HAVE to stay home, drink by themselves, and play online with you.

I’ll be keeping an eye on Halo for the 6th installment but I gotta say, I have zero optimism after Halo 5. Just… ew. That multiplayer and that whole “hunt the truth” campaign. Yea spoiler, the truth is found out like 30 minutes into the game.

343 imo poops on alot of previous source material,if it ain’t broke don’t fix it is a motto they do not live by

What about pre-game lobby? I would like to see other people’s stats before the game starts so i know what I’m getting in to.

Write it better, maybe mention a halo in the campaign, develop some character in Osiris, some halo CE, 2, or 3 OST, remove Spartan charge, remove team oriented play, fix the armour, no micro transactions. Split screen, playable elites. That’s my wish list. Also, have a good, replay able campaign.

Some want a better campaign, others want less Spartan abilities, and I want a better MP ranking system. I’m tired of these numerical ranks. Just carry over some variant of Halo 3’s.
