Lets Talk About Campaign

I would like to point out that this thread is specifically about stuff I would like to see in CAMPAIGN, and not stuff I could ever see in multiplayer that wouldn’t take an incredible amount of balancing (and apology in advance for it being long, I just have lots of ideas, so bear with me). Anyway, these are just some ideas for stuff I’ve always wanted to see in Campaign, considering we have a whole new trilogy and now and anything could be possible! And since 343 is trying to tie everything together, some of this stuff would be sick if seen in-game. Also some of this stuff may be more suited to Spartan Ops, considering it’s a specific mission based type of campaign.

• Mission customized weapons. In Halo lore Spartans were known to use variations of certain weapons, like the Sniper Rifle for example. It was described in the books as being able to be customized to fit certain mission requirements, like having different stocks, barrel lengths, caliber sizes, and silencers. I think it would be interesting to see different variants of weapons in the campaign. The AR also was described as being able to support 40 mm grenade launchers, underbarrel shotguns, and shredder rounds (very effective against soft targets). I just think it would be super cool if depending on mission types. ie. sniping, assault, recon, that weapons would be customized to fit that role.

• More vehicle variation. In modern militaries there are many variations of combat and support vehicles. Since Halo has been somewhat grounded in real world and possibly feasible technology, it just doesn’t make sense to me that we see such a lack of variation. The scorpion tank for example has 2 different variants, one with 40 mm auto-cannons, and the other with rocket pods according to the Halo encyclopedia. On this note it would also be totally awesome if we got to see and use vehicles introduced in Halo Wars. A lot of them were really cool and would provide for interesting vehicle based missions.

• More moments that make you feel like you’re in the middle of an incredible intergalactic war. With the Xbox 720, this might be more feasible, but none-the-less I’ve never felt like I was part of some kind of huge spanning war. I was hoping to get that feeling in Reach, but they left stuff like that up to cut-scene (In particular the opening cut-scene in Tip of the Spear). I want bigger more immersive battles in Campaign. The COD: MW series I thought did a great job of making you feel like a soldier in the middle of the absolute chaos of battle, I wouldn’t mind seeing that more in Halo’s campaign (I’ll point out that I do like COD for some things, but that Halo will always be my favorite shooter).

• Related to the above bullet, I would really love to see more specific types of missions, like a seriously dedicated sniping mission. Another mission I would like to see is one where you Para-drop. In the Halo Graphic novel, the Spartan Maria uses this Airfoil Carapace for a low level atmospheric drop. It would sweet if one mission you were in freefall and started shooting targets below you to clear a landing zone. Stuff like that would give some serious variety to missions, considering I think Halo has suffered from a lot of backtracking in Campaign.

• Make the Spartans (not necessarily the Chief) look more like they are soldiers geared up and ready for battle. This idea/look was explored somewhat in Reach, but it always bugged me that the Spartans looked “naked” having no real visible gear to hold ammunition and other gear needed for combat operations. I like to see things more realistically, and I just think Spartans would looks so much cooler all geared up and ready for battle, so when you look at them, you know they mean business.

• The ability to dual wield certain single handed weapons with a specific dual wielded weapon. The best example that comes to mind is in the Halo Legends episode, “The Package.” In this episode you see Fred dual wield a Spartan Laser and an SMG. I’m sorry, but that’s F****** awesome. I also wish that if dual wielding returned, that when you went to switch weapons from a dual wield to a single wield, you wouldn’t drop the one dual wielded weapon. I think it would be super fun if you could have two sets of dual wielded weapons on hand during campaign. Your primary could be dual wielded SMGs and your secondary could be dual wielded Magnums!

• The ability to pick up and move turrets around the map, without having to tear them off of their tri-pods (this is more a multiplayer addition, but could be useful in campaign). As seen in this picture you see a Marine carrying a machine gun turret. I think it would add some depth to support gameplay. Turrets aren’t always in the most ideal locations to be effective when firing form a stationary position, that’s why we all tear them off and walk around with them. I hate having to sacrifice all that infinite ammo by tearing the turret off, why not let us move it around? I mean it would be balanced because while moving it you would be vulnerable, and with clever map design, only skilled teams would be able to move a stationary turret to a more ideal location.

All I can think of now, share your ideas! I love hearing what other people would like to see in their favorite video game franchise!

I like these ideas for Campaign only, but I say no to the last one. I never really cared for the concept of dual wielding. It just felt more like a gimmick that was in the game for the sake of looking cool than anything practical.

Those are some good ideas, specially the specific types of missions.

I´m not too fond of dual wielding though.

Nice post, I´m reall looking forward to the Campaign.

That’s the point, this is only Campaign stuff, nothing I said would be for Multiplayer, except maybe the Spartan Armor part, and vehicles if balanced correctly

343 have included weapon skins, but I don’t know if they extend to campaign or Spartan Ops.

Also, 343 needs to bring back our weapons appearing in cutscenes. That is exclusive to H2, and H3’s first mission. This should not be the case. Reach let us customize our character but what makes a character is his weapons/tool of destruction. Obviously, no one goes around in the Reach campaign with only an AR and pistol loadout.

Absolutely.

So far, we’ve only seen turret variation:

-AA Wraith
-grenade launcher Falcon
-gauss, rocket Hog
-fuel rod Shade

Any vehicle variation is minor (troop transport Hog, AA Shade) or exclusive (space Banshee, space Phantom).

So far, 343 seems to be considering performance by making dead Prometheans disintegrate and making enemies shot by Promethean weapons disintegrate.

You’ve likely seen the E3 demo so you’ll know larger AI numbers may be plausible. It is now known that Prometheans can call reinforcements.

Yes specific would be nice. Variety is obviously superior (The Ark, The Covenant, AotCR, Gravemind) but specific is so rare these days:

-exploration/mystery: WC vs. CE Halo
-stealth: Nightfall vs. T&R
-invasion: TotS vs. SC/AotCR

Reach missions are inferior to their CE counterparts.

I’d rather have free fall as DLC or a bonus mission (i.e. Lone Wolf). It sounds CoDish. I do not want another arcade moment (Reach TotS Falcon ride).

Yeah that’s one of the things I like about Reach.

Would be OP. But I could seeing it working with support esque weapons (i.e. Sentinel Beam, Brute Shot).

No. Sounds CoDish. On the other hand, H2 had single dual wielded weapons in the E3 2003 demo IIRC.

> That’s the point, this is only Campaign stuff, nothing I said would be for Multiplayer, except maybe the Spartan Armor part, and vehicles if balanced correctly

That’s the problem. Everything in the Campaign should be available in multiplayer; meaning Forge and Custom Games. Matchmaking isn’t the only component of multiplayer.

most of these ideas i think are good. persanally i like the weapon accessories idea, altho it may be to cod ish but i think it would work if they really balanced it well. Definately agree on needing more vehicle veriaty.

I personally liked dual weilding, however, dual weilding with a spartan lazer or rocket launcher is crazy. Definately not in a game. The movie was awsome, but not for a game. dual weilding smgs, pistols, plasma rifles, loved it. I missed dual wielding those awsome red plasma rifles from H3.

Most sounds good; but i would watch out with variations with vehicles (or weapons) if a game gets to complicated it will lose its speed- and/or funfactor.

Similar things are in CoD, I know you mean it different; but iam just saying it.

In the campaign when we fight with other spartans against thte covenant etc…
I want the Spartans AI too good and not like Arbiter in Halo 3

I know a lot of this sounds very COD. And I’ll be honest, I like playing COD for certain reasons, but it has gotten really boring, and so has Reach, so I’m hoping H4 will deliver. But yea I understand that if it’s in campaign it should be in multiplayer, and by that notion everything I said would have to balanced out A LOT. My feeling overall on why it sounds like COD is because Halo is supposed to be a sci-fi military shooter, that has been grounded in reality in some respects, I just wish campaign wise it was a little more grounded

These are pretty awesome actually. Definitely want the war thing and the sniper mission.

> In the campaign when we fight with other spartans against thte covenant etc…

Yeah they shouldn’t be damage sponges to be good. Arby was reckless but he didn’t always get punished for it since he had a lot of health. Noble Team were even worse. Their invincibility is the only reason why they could survive.

These are some goodideas but i dont want the campain to be short and easy like halo 3 and reach. the campains were way too short and somewhat easy halo 4 batter not be like that

> These are some goodideas but i dont want the campain to be short and easy like halo 3 and reach. the campains were way too short and somewhat easy halo 4 batter not be like that

I’m not saying that these additions would make it easy. I just think some more variety would give the game more longevity. People like variety, at least I do. I also like seeing my favorite video game franchise fleshed out and get deeper, the additions I suggested would visually and gameplay wise show parts of the universe we’ve left up to our imaginations

I basically want the variety and replay value that Halo 3’s campaign had.

It was so story driven, had excellent cutscenes, had epic battles and so much more. You could be fighting a huge battle outside with loads of different vehicles and cool music playing in the background, and then the next moment, you could be fighting the flood in a dark, scary environment.

Halo 3 campaign was so re-playable and epic, that words cannot describe it. I hope 343i looked at Halo 1 - 3 and took notes because they were the best and most epic campaigns, with so much variety and replay value, that I’ve ever played.

I would like them to bring back the SMG, allow the player to pilot a pelican, and have some sort of human knife/machete.
