Let's play the beta.

This Thread Originally
This was originally a sprint thread. I made this thread trying to help 343 by giving a history of halo to the younger generation and to ultimately vote for sprint on halo 5. After halo 4, I want to thank 343 for going back to the arena style of shooters with a skill gap and ranking system. Because so many shooters today, just use handicaps and dumb good players down. I didn’t buy the MCC on day one trying to send a message, but I’m still here to help make Halo 5 better.

Halo 5
Sprint is here to stay and I see that there is no fighting it. I gotta say that sprint with the health mechanic probably will work. 343, you don’t have to force armor abilities in the loadouts. But once again I’m not gonna try and fight it. I’m just gonna try and get a few really bad ones thrown out. The climbing one is dumb. I don’t even want to test it. Halo is not a wild fast paced game and please don’t make it that way.

To 343
I am very blunt in my comments, it’s the only way people will listen. I apologize if i’ve offended you in the past, but I want to see halo as the best shooter. I’m gonna quote the great scott ghandi on the way out, as he told everyone to play the crap out of the beta. And that’s what I’m gonna do.

I don’t mind sprint, but the thruth is, its not even necessary on Halo.

Would be good for customs.

ill go with option 1, i find halo more fun with how sprint was in 1-3 and just the run and gun sprint we had for a long time. until I’ve get to play the beta we will see if 343 has actually learned they might say so much they want but I’m very skeptical still.

We have to pick one and all go with the winner. We can’t be broken up anymore.

The voting screen is up. We have to vote and stay together. We can’t have a million different halo’s going on.

Answer: No.

Question: Why start another sprint thread?

-Yoink- it. -Yoink- sprint so hard. -Yoink- it out of existence. It kills Halo.

But of course it’s gonna stay since some dude that I flamed really hard about nine days ago basically said that Halo needs it since other shooters have it. -Yoinking!- fantastic. Truly fantastic. Bravo, guy.

One of my favorite parts about Halo 1-3 is that you don’t have to forfeit your ability to fire in order to move around the map at a decent speed. I hate sprint and I hate ADS, and it’s painful to see so many games that have both nowadays.

I keep asking this but have yet to get a straight answer… where was it said that loadouts are not in?

I asked the question most recently in the “Nothing but Unbiased Facts” pinned thread and have yet to get an answer. I’d love to know what I missed!

> Current State of Halo
> Halo is entering a throwback/beta year. This was an excellent idea from 343i. I’m excited about a lot of things the MCC has to offer me. The most exciting thing is seeing the rebuild from H4 to H5.
> H5 Beta Start
> I love everything that I’m hearing and seeing, from mostly everything in H2 Anniversary to being told no loadouts. The only thing that should be questionable is SPRINT.
> So let’s talk SPRINT
> The only two games to have sprint were Reach and H4. Reach had a DMR with bloom and H4 had loadouts with a boltshot. So we as a community find ourselves at a fork in the road with 3 ways to proceed. Option 1: No Sprint and to not even think about it. Option 2: Sprint with a mechanic. An example of a sprint mechanic is you get shot while sprinting and you slow down. Option 3: Keep sprint and beta test it with the open idea to revert back to option 1. The MCC will show the younger generation a no sprint game. So everyone has a vote. So please vote. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. I personally vote option 3 and think option 2 is a horrible idea. Also if 343i already goes with option 1, I would have no problem with that.

Reasons Why Sprint Sucks

  • They reduced the base movement speed to compensate for the addition of sprint. This reduces emphasis on strafing (randomizing various rapid movements to avoid getting shot), thus severely loweing the skill gap. You forget, you can’t move side to side with sprint, only forward.
  • You have to put your gun down to sprint. Halo is a game about combat, but now you have to essentially exit combat to move fast, which is stupid to the highest degree. This destroys the flow, when really you should be able to shoot AND move fast at the exact same time.
  • It results in a massive overload of cat n’ mouse chases where you’re sprinting away and your enemy has to sprint after you to catch up. These crappy scenarios tend to last very, very long.
  • It makes retreating easier. It used to be a requirement that you had tons of map knowledge and had skill at area denial tactics, but nowadays it’s just press a button to run away.
  • Maps were made larger to compensate for sprint. You could travel faster around Guardian in Halo 3 than you could around Haven in Halo 4, both are the smallest maps of their respective games. The point? Halo 3 didn’t have sprint but you could still get to places faster than you can in Halo 4, the latter of which has sprint. So what was the point of including sprint again?

Frank O’Connor posted that somewhere, I forget the actual site but he specifically mentioned “Fair starts” and essentially stated that “Every member on the red team will be the same as every member on the blue team.”

In one of their latest videos about the beta, around 1:15 they say “fair starts what means no one’s gonna have a different loadout than the other person. Every member of red team will be the same as every member of blue team”.

However I always say this is all just H5: beta talk which has been said to be just a small segment of the final multiplayer.

Didn’t he ruin Gears multiplayer as well?

And for OP, Option 1.

the basic fact is that people naturally feel like they’re moving too slowly if they can’t sprint and feel like they’re moving too fast if the base movement speed is too much past something like Halo 1’s.

combining sprint with base trait thruster dashes is the perfect way to minimize sprint’s impact. give people a reasonably fast but more constrained and balanced dash move that doesn’t require putting your gun down (like the dashes on the Titans in Titanfall, except usable in the air) and then make sprint itself minimally faster than base movement.

make being hit with a bullet while sprinting IMMEDIATELY knock you back into base movement. make players think of sprint as something to use when covering a long distance with no danger around, and make them realize that they should rely on their dash move when moving from cover to cover and escaping from heavy fire.

sprint should be a comfort blanket, base movement should be the main event, and dashes should be an important tactical decision.

basically, sprint shouldn’t affect the game enough that it needs to have a limit on how long you can use it.

Here’s a solution:

Sticky a post about Sprints issues, lock thread from replies, nuke any more sprint threads.

Broken records cause bleeding ears.

Yes… just don’t call that game “Gears” it is not worthy of the name. I stopped after the 1st Campaign mission.

Sure why not. Doesn’t change anything that I care about.

Obviously it should option 3, it’s what pleases the maximum amount of people, a better question is why did you post this. We have more than enough Sprint threads, and also this waypoint, the same dozen guys that participate in every Sprint thread will come out of the woodwork to post the same arguments.
This isn’t something that can be discussed civilly anymore, there are no moderates left here, just the no Change at all and the change even at the expense good gameplay people.
You’re just fanning flames.

If thread is an attempt to quell Sprint arguments, it’s not gonna happen man, people feel too strongly about it. I for one would continue to argue its merits any time someone brought it up, even if it were permanently removed from the series.

Really? Option 3 is what pleases the maximum amount of people? That’s why the “no sprint” option has 16/22 votes, right?
