Lets pin down what EXACTLY we want for Armor

I’ve seen quite a few complaints about the Halo 4 armor, although no one seems to be able to tell me outfight so far what about it they hate so much besides “It looks like power rangers” without much elaboration. I’m confused by this, because its not like Halo 3 and Reach’s armor looked any further from the power ranger description I have been given so many times.

Rough and tough or Clean and Classy? One idea I have is choosing between the dirty, worn armor style of Reach and the shiny, flashy armor of what looks like we will be getting in Halo 5, with a in-between look for those that likes Halo 3’s matte style the best.

Do you want a flashlight with that? Armor attachments are a given. We all want those. My personal suggestion is to give us the ability to pick each individual attachment rather than presets already built in. Such examples for the helmet would be selecting a forehead piece, a lower frontal piece (such as the HAZOP attachment under the visor from reach), right and left sides of the helmet. You want a metal plate on your forehead for additional armor with HAZOP gear attached below the visor, a comms uplink on the right side of your helmet and a Ace of Spades card pinned to the left? Done. A long range targeting system for snipers on your forehead with a video uplink on the left and nothing else? Good to go! Nothing at all? Its your call.

You can have it in any color you want. Rather than pick between a bunch of presets when picking what color you want your spartan to be (notice a trend?) I would like it if we could pick our primary and secondary colors based of a wide color spectrum. I ran into this issue in Halo 4 when I realized no blue armor colors matched the recruit visor, which brings me to my next point

They come free. Visors colors shouldn’t really be a unlock. I want to be able to just outright pick them, the sole exemption being the classic legendary gold visor. That, you should work for, if only for its iconic look and bragging rights.

That about wraps up what I can come up with at 2:00 in the morning. Feel free to add deas or give criticisms to the ideas I just mentioned.

Just what are YOU looking for in a armor?

I just want simplicity. Reach, 4 and 5’s armor is over designed, too many little details. Halo 3’s armor, while limited, was much better and more iconic and recognizable due to it’s simple designs.

As for textures, the armor should be clean, but worn out.

So amplification through simplification? I can respect that.

EDIT: Just out of personal curiosity, is there any armor in Halo 4 or 5 that fit this description at all, or are none of them to your tastes?

Just my two cents but I think an love for armor to be an expanded take on the h2a armor… It’s a really nice mix between the clean and polished (h3) and the futuristic flashy (h4)

I’m kinda inclined to agree with this, in a way.

EDIT: Plus, Halo 2 and 3’s armor designs seem a tad more practical, considering the greater coverage of armor overall.

I noticed that Halo 5’s armour (or Atleast most if it) has a weird paint pattern on it which is highlighted by your secondary colour, I would like to see these patterns customisable. I also like your idea of giving the option for a worn or a brand new preset.
I don’t think our spartan feels personal enough so I agree with your “attachments to armour” thing, but I was surprised you didn’t touch on the lack of basic customisation in the game, just like reach and 4 I would like the option to change my:
left shoulder
right shoulder
legs
helmet
torso
wrist/arms
visor

I would like to see these put back in as well as your suggested ideas, I like my spartan to feel personal and not generic, I would also like many others like to see elites as a playable option in multiplayer, but instead of spartan abilities they can be called something different, idk. This is kind of armour kind of not, but it’s customisation so I’ll throw it it: I would like to change my Spartans voice, I think this would be a fun little option and would maybe make spartan chatter more innovative.

I didn’t add shoulders, forearms, legs and such to my original post because I have faith that 343 only over simplified it for the beta and will return it to normal with the final release. The helmet is just the most noticeable piece, even against the torso.

(If they don’t, I dont care if the game plays perfectly, if we dont have full customization options, that is reason enough by itself to boycott the -Yoink- out of Halo 5)

Changing the voice would be pretty cool as well. It depends on the number of options, although it would be better than nothing.

So long as I still get to use my GUNGNIR variant, I’m a happy camper. Though I like the direction they’re taking with Locke’s armor.

Now I absolutely loved Halo Reach’s take on armor, dirty, gritty, worn. It fit the atmosphere of the game since you were fighting on the front lines and in war zones. Your armor got battered and beat up. If it were my call, that’d be my preference. But we are dealing with GEN-II MJOLNIR armor, and Spartan-IV’s, not Spartan III’s and Spartan II’s.

That said the only overly shiny and complex armor that I do actually like is the Helioskrill armor, if only for the fact that I had to work my -Yoink- off to beat all four Halo games on Legendary in the MCC.

I agree with that statement. I also kinda like the description behind it. Sort of like a friendly rivalry between sangheili and humans. It also gave us one of the first actual insights of the role of females in Sangheili culture. Anyway, I love my Helioskrill armor. The crest on the back of the helmet could get removed, but all in all, I’m satisfied.

Back to the topic at hand, I’m not sure how newer armor and a newer breed of Spartan directly translates into cleaner and shinier. Granted, they arn’t expected to deploy for as long as much so they would be cleaned and maintained, but some armor in Halo 4 clearly stated they were designed for long term deployments without support from command. Also, we have Mk VI Scarred, so its not like they are tended to and maintained as much as we would think.

I still think we should be able to pick.

Proportions are off in this game. The upper body is noticeably bulkier than the lower body.

See here.

For shininess or worn they could put in a wash to do either or. I like all the little details on the armor, I also have faith that the customizations were simplified for the beta. Armor attachments are a great idea, cosmetic only though. Skins or color patterns would he great. Maybe going back to H3 and having primary, secendary and detail for colors. That’s my take.

Spartan IVs clearly skipped leg day.

I would like a version of the MK IV armor from Halo Wars available for Spartan IVs. I always loved the chest and shoulders for MK IV.

It would be cool, but I think it was by the skin of our teeth that we got the MK V for Halo 4 because of canon reasons. I’m not so sure about the MK IV.

Would like to see more UNSC style armor, that’s all I want 4 christmas. :3

Care to clarify? All the armor we’ve received could be called UNSC armor, so I’m not sure what you mean.

My complaint isn’t about the actual armor anymore. I’m disappointed in the lack of customization; according to 343, we can only change our helmet, visor, and body armor. I seriously fear for the future of this franchise if they think regression is a good idea.
I hope it’s just for the beta, but I’m not feeling very optimistic about customization. Given 343’s track record with custom games, I have pretty low expectations.

Edit: Might as well say what I want the armor to be like. So far I’m liking Halo 5’s sets, especially Athlon, Centurion, and Helioskrill. But I think everything would look better with black undersuits.

I have faith that no one in 343 is that dumb. It is probably just for the beta. But as I said before, if it isn’t, then that is reason enough to boycott Halo 5. I dont give flying -Yoink- about competitive Halo nearly as much as I do about customization. If for the sake of having customization options, I’d see the Spartans club each other with pool noodles for 10 minutes at a time.

> I’m disappointed in the lack of customization; according to 343, we can only change our helmet, visor, and body armor.

They were talking about how it currently is in the beta.
I highly doubt it’s going to be that limited in the final game.

> Just what are YOU looking for in a armor?

Halo Reach had it right in terms of the shape of the armor itself.

Please no more weird designs like Venator, Wetworker, Pioneer, etc.
