I love free DLC as much as the next guy, and I defended the Rec system and even the implementaions of microtrasactions to the death, but having played for quite a while now, I can firmly say I was wrong.
The fact that the most basic unlocks including the base loadout weapons like the DMR are now walled behind RNG is quite rediculous. I am level 40 now, I still dont have even the base DMR, and that’s not even a power weapon, People far above me in both level and skill still don’t have the DMR, I even hear some people above me don’t even have BRs .
Even the power weapon certifications seem to be a problem at some points, there seem to be some games where the match is determined by a certian player on either team who just burns through a seemingly unlimited number of super powered cards like scorpions. It may just be me, but it seems that the random nature of certifications for even the most basic forms of power weapons and vehicles just does not translate well into the actual game
And lastly about the cosmetic stuff, I heard a machinima maker talking about how detrimental the random armor unlockes (Among many other things than need to be addressed) is to the machinima making community. To create what they need to they may requre people to wear certian armor, and my restructing people from attaing said armor at a reliable rate, the ability to make those creations is lost.
And it does not help at all that there are no unlocks whatsoever for campaign completion, not even on Legendary.
if 343 could make a fair rec system that does not rely so heavily on RNG, I’d be all for it, but if not I’d rather just go back to the unlock system form Halo Reach and paid DLC
What do you all think? Agree or disagree, I’d like to hear points from people who still defend the system.
If the Req system was put into Halo 6 I would be ok with it because free DLC is great.
What I would like to see is the ability to unlock all basic loadout weapons by leveling up.
Level 1 gets you an AR and pistol.
5 gets you a BR
8 has you with an SMG
and at level 12 you get the base DMR
Then you can toss in req cards for unique variants of that.
Add in a randomly spawning weapon/vehicle in Warzone in each teams homebase. So that way you can always have some kind of power weapon or vehicle besides the Req ones.
Also include more Armor/Helmets that can only be gotten through achievements.
I would love for it to disappear into the ether never to return, however it made 343i roughly 500,000$ in its first week…soooOooooo, something tells me they are going to keep it around
If it supports the game why not have it around?
people buy the dlc for others who don’t want to pay for the packs with real money essentially. Also as long as it doesn’t effect gameplay that’s ranked I don’t mind it

if the money made from req packs actually gave us legitimate maps and not these forge (which still isnt available by the way) I would be slightly less against it.
However as it stands now if our “free map packs” are going to be nothing but forge BS then I call shennanigans
Let’s face it, it’s not going away. I’m not against it because free DLC for everyone is good for community. However, like a few people already said, more stuff should be unlocked via achievements.

its not free tho, you are essentially paying for the dlc through buying the req packs
which as i said earlier has netted 343i something around 500k in its first week, more then they would have ever made off of paid dlc map packs…oh and the first batch of “free” maps were terrible forge maps
Free Forge maps need to go or get better looking / playing. Recurve is horrible, don’t even bother going on the bottom you’ll be picked of in less the 10 steps. Guillotine is a big gray blob. Oh look I spawned near a big gray wall, let me spin around, walk over there and see if I can figure out where I am. Standoff/deadlock I used to hate, now it is one of the best BTB maps go figure. Wouldn’t mind seeing some map remade but in true H5 new and shiny fashion, like how all other Halo remakes were done.
If they give us better maps them I can support the REQ system. If not let me buy armor like in Reach.

They made 500,000$ in the first week of H5 from req packs alone, while its true that I -personally- don’t have to buy anything people clearly are
which means the people who have purchased req packs have financed the free map packs…why do you think the microtransaction req system was put in place in the first place?
I would rework how Loadouts work and change it into a more traditional loadout system unlocked through progression, and then have Req Variants unlock like they do currently, albeit with more powerful configurations than what would be availiable in the loadouts.

It will be in Halo 6 because people keep shelling tons of $ on the packs.
As much as we dislike it it seems games nowadays and on the future will keep having Micro Trans because people keep spending money on them.
I think the trade off with free DLC and Req is fine with me. Dividing the MP population because of updates was a big issue and I was glad to see it got addressed. However I do agree there should be some special achievement unlock gear. Maybe some Campaign and some MP. Even if its only 10 to 20 unlocks or so and the rest is RNG.

^ This. I am fine with the collectors and rich financing the free DLC. Towards the end of H4 I think there were 3 or 4 separate multi-player areas based on who bought which Map packs and who didn’t buy any.
