Let's name some features that make Halo 5 unique

What does Halo 5 do that other first person shooters don’t ? List some features that make it unique !

(Gameplay Mechanics only)

I can only think of two: Shields and Weapons

other than that I think most of the Mechanics are shared among the vast variety of shooters… Halon5 does not even feel like Halo IMO

I like the hover mode while aiming when in the air. It’s fun going up a grave lift and hovering and shooting as you fall back down.
I like the 2 hit melee system, instead of a simple swing of a knife.

Other gameplay mechanics:

  • Motion Tracker, instead of a minimap.- Assasinations- Equal starts (At least the only one on consoles I can think of)- Weapon Pickups on the map- Custom games (Ability to tweak almost anything: Speed, damage, ammo, shields, etc).- Hip fire reticles on precision weapons (Instead of COD’s icky crosshairs)- De-scoping (so people don’t just walk around constantly zoomed in like every other fps)- Longer kill times (So you don’t die in 4 bullets from an smg like almost every other fps)
One of my favorites: Kill formulas (That’s what I call them)
  • 2 melees- 1 melee, 1 headshot- 4 headshots- 3 body, 1 headshot- Etcedera!

Clambering and Ground Pound.

I actually enjoy ground pound. It takes a decent while to charge, so it’s not OP.

Fun to do also. Brings back some nostalgia from mario lol

Are the hovering and sprint shield mechanics unique? I haven’t seen them anywhere else.

What does Halo 3 do that other first person shooters don’t? List some features that are unique!

Too easy, OP.

A lot of what has been mentioned is not that unique…

Shields: While the only FPS off the top of my head is Destiny; energy shields are used in a number of other Sci-fi games like: Mass Effect, Star Craft, and Star Wars titles.
Weapons: Every shooter ever has weapons, the only difference is that Halo’s are ascetically unique, even Covie weapons (however this can be debated).
Motion Tracker: Alien: Isolation and Colonial Marines, and Heartbeat sensor in MW.
Equal Starts: More so unique today than in the past, but still nothing new… Counter Strike, Golden Eye, even CoD and BF4 host servers on PC w/ equal starts.
Weapon Pick-ups: Again, more unique today than in the past, but still nothing new. Almost every FPS game before 2007
Longer Kill Times: This is harder to gauge since H5 decreased kill times, but GoW, Destiny, Team Fortress 2, and even CS and Crysis have longer than normal kill times.
Clamber: Basically the same thing as vaulting in other FPSs
Ground Pound: From what I know Crysis pretty much invented this.

Yeah, but Halo’s use of these undoubtedly leads to a much different feel than most other games.

This pretty much nails it for me. However, I would like to note that ‘sprint’ is not listed, giving further proof it’s unneeded and only in to become more generic.

Nothing

Well the part of sprint that is unique is that it is tied to your shields. there aren’t that many Games that have shields and ever less of those that are FPSs, but I don’t think there is a single one that doesn’t let your shield recharge if you sprinting. The closet to it would be Crysis. However, in that Game all of your powers, including sprint, feed from that same recharging energy pool. Not a shield but still close.

Also have and mechanic that isn’t unique =/= a generic game.

Reloading is arguably unnecessary and generic. Having such a mechanic doesn’t make the game generic, though.

Do you want people having 20 sniper rounds on hand at all times? 8 rockets? lol

I’m a bit of a rebel, so I’m going to list things that are not unique to halo for their times.

Not unique in Halo 5- sprint, ads, having abilities.

Not unique in Classic halo- no sprint, no ads, no abilities.

I guess halo has been a generic shooter this whole time. Dang, oh except many other things that Halo does that makes it different from other shooters. I haven’t played another game that feels and plays similar to halo.

If re-balanced through other elements like rate-of-fire (much like other Arena FPS), why not? It would get rid of a mechanic that forces players to relinquish control of their weapon (which is a prime complaint against Sprint).

None of it is unique. It’s just introduced w/ a halo feel to it…

I don’t think sprint works :frowning:

Reloading is needed for balance, I think.
