Hello Waypoint Community and 343 Employees.
I knew that this day would come since Halo 2. The day when those people that were asking for sprint in Halo would be given what they wanted, and it sounded good at first, but the first kind of sprint implemented in Reach was terrible, and that “prototype” of sprint for Halo can get lots of improvement.
The Problem
What was wrong with the Reach sprint you might ask?
First of all it only catered to one group from the Halo community, and that’s because of how it was implemented.
- Used to sprint and double pummel (cheap and stupid).
- Used to run away from battles (slowed down the game pace even more).
- Used with Close Quarter Weapons to get more cheap kills (tactical knife + commando, anyone?).
- Default moving speed was slower with the introduction of sprint (the point? make the game easier and slower? this wasn’t necessary).
I as a conservative Halo fan that I am, I would like sprint in Halo only if it isn’t like the Reach sprint, after all, you guys want new stuff, so why not ask for a new and better sprint mechanic?
Just look at this: Halo 4 sprint.
What has changed from Reach to Halo 4?
- You don’t get slowed down when shot = You can still run away.
- You can still sprint and double pummel.
- You can still use it with Close Quarter weapons to get cheap kills like in this game called (insert banned word here).
- Movement is unknown.
Nothing has changed! Sprint will be as bad in Halo 4 as it is in Reach.
The Solution
Sprint needs to cater a larger audience of people for it to be successful in Halo.
So the changes I had in mind where:
- You get a X% slowing down when sprinting for every shot put in you with a certain weapon (e.g AR 1% per shot, DMR and BR 3%…). So if you put a shot in a spartan sprinting, congrats, he will be easier to catch if he doesn’t get help. This will discourage sprinting away from battles.
- Your lunge assist is disabled for 1 second with non-close quarter weapon and with close quarter weapons 2 seconds with close quarter weapon after getting out of sprint.
This will add some skill to when you try to hit your opponent when trying to double pummel him. - Your default moving speed is still fast even when not using sprint, very good for strafing when you want to make it harder for people to hit you.
So what sprint turns out to be, is a tool to help your teammates faster, to make BTB more anjoyable and now it will cater to almost all of the Halo fan base meaning casuals and competitive alike.
Lets save Halo, lets make it please the people that weren’t pleased with the kind of first impression they had with sprint in Halo. Lets hope we get considered but please support this thread by posting your opinions in it! Thank you Waypoint community!
