Like the Halo CE pistol, lets put it in Halo 4 and call it the classic pistol and of course there will be the Halo 4 version. Lets bring back the Halo 3 SMG and the ODST SMG.
Of course lets bring back the Halo 3 BR and the Halo Reach DMR.
The reason?
To have a good old halo feel with halo 4 with a simple change of weaponry. No TU needed and fun bonus weapons for custom games.
I would like options like this in Halo 4’s forge. I’m hoping that they update the engine for the entire game, including the Forge mode, allowing for a lot of Forge content.
Lol, I didn’t read the first line at first, I was about to post an essay on how that would destroy matchmaking.
This would be an awesome idea, would be pretty cool for forged remakes.
Brute shot could have 2 firing modes: 1 that works like in Halo 3 (just a straight shot, a guaranteed hit) and 1 that works like in Halo 2 (good for corridors and corners) and would do more damage when fired in Halo 2 mode. Why would we need 2 Brute shots in Forge?
Hell, I’d be glad just to see direct copies without any graphical upgrades or anything – just so long as we get everything. Not saying that 343 will screw up Halo 4’s sandbox as badly as Bungie did with Reach, but if that does happen, this idea would give us the perfect fallback.
Honestly I never understood why weapons and vehicles were removed from custom games in the first place. Having variety makes the game a whole lot more fun. Besides sequels are supposed to improve on the original game. Taking away stuff sure isn’t an improvement.
Although it remains to be seen if the return of ex-Covies (and their vehicles and weapons) will make a return (yet). So adding them in Forge/Multi/Customs would work, but I think it’s doubtfull they will be in campaign.
Same concept can go for the UNSC weapons. Include all of them, tweak them a bit more so that each weapon fills it’s own niche better (SMG’s as dual wielded (standard!) short range, wide spread weapons and the scoped, silenced SMG for medium distance, and the AR for close-medium range, more accuracy weapons for instance)
BR and DMR could also work alongside, just give them different optimal effect ranges, etc.
In short: yes, bring back all weapons we’ve seen in the series so far. But maybe exclude (some/most) of them from Campaign, and make them Multi/Forge/Customs only.

I hate to disagree with you, Cobb, but I strongly disagree with OP.
From a developers stand-point, a sandbox is a sandbox. They will develop one set of weapons and vehicles that fulfill all of the required niches. No more, no less.
Adding multiple weapons that do the same thing is useless, and a waste of developers time. I would personally much prefer the ability to modify weapon specific traits such as RoF, accuracy, magazine size, and damage, rather than getting a “sandbox” filled with useless overlap.
