Let's get Halo 2 back!!!!

Hey all you halo 2 fanatics,

If you agree with me and believe that Halo 2 had the best maps, weapons, and overall online multiplayer gameplay lets try to get this great game ported over to the xbox 360. It will take a huge effort but if everyone writes letters and makes phone calls to microsoft studios I am pretty sure we can get it done. here is their contact info:

Microsoft Game Studios
One Microsoft Way

WA Tel. 425-882-8080
Fax 425-706-7329

They are the only ones that can make this happen given they own the rights to the halo franchise. Why is Halo 2 the only one not available on LIVE? That is lame lets get it back!!!

What do you mean by get it “ported” over to the 360…? Like downloadable on the Marketplace?

I think a Halo 2 remake in HD would be teh awesome. lol

Halo 2: Anniversary is the way to go.

I used to be like you guys, but now I’m not. CEA was not a good remake, and Halo 2 doesn’t deserve to be disgraced like it’s father. I vote against.

This, a thousand times this.

I quote the above posts because they are absolutely correct.

CEA was done carelessly in both aspects (campaign and multiplayer), although multiplayer is a lot more tolerable since it felt somewhat polished.

But CEA’s campaign is the ultimate disappointment.

1. It’s not the same experience.

The AI line frequencies have been altered, the weapon and vehicle sounds have been swapped, the field of view has been increased, the draw distance seems smaller, AI and dropped weapons are harder to spot, the simplest jumps are hard to do due to the loose graphics layer (getting the Pinata skull without a Banshee is a breeze with classic graphics), the trees and walls are unreliable cover, again due to the loose graphics layer, the classic stuff are harder to do.

2. No improvements.

I was expecting a better crouch and the press X to enter a vehicle to be fixed (or at least made as an option). How could they overlook these flaws of the Xbox version?

Also, the lack of Theater really kills the fun. There are some stunning fights that be initiated and watched over a distance but are too risky to watch up close. They should have included Blind to compensate for Theater’s absence. It was after all purposed for that, and it would have added much more to the immersion than Malfunction.

3. Barely any new gameplay experiences.

Only the following skulls made it feel new: Grunt Funeral, Bandanna, Pinata, Famine, Fog, Black Eye, Grunt Birthday.

The rest made gameplay absurd (Eye Patch, Boom, Recession, Mythic) or were redundant (Foreign, Iron, Malfunction).

4. Which version is it?

Xbox or PC? They should clarify on this.

I want to play with the new graphics but this is some sloppy work. I can’t be bothered playing with the new graphics because of all these supposedly minor annoyances. They are very aggravating on higher difficulties.

I have played CE’s campaign thoroughly so I’m not just one of those complainers that pick out everything they don’t like.

I’m just stating my point. CEA simply does not provide an immersive experience like CE.

CEA would have been better if it had made some changes. The irony is that H4 is making big changes.

I have high expectations for H4 but not for a H2 Anniversary.

Just came back from playing CEA. The Stealth Elites are much more harder to see in the new graphics.

Why is this a big deal?

The Stealth Elites have a fatal flaw in the new graphics: their weapon is visible. While sword wielding Stealth Elites always had a visible sword in the old graphics, the plasma rifle wielding ones didn’t. While it may be harder to headshot them with the pistol or sniper, they’re basically visible targets when the player is in a vehicle or uses a different type of weapon (i.e. automatic weapon).

An AI that is essentially op should not be nerfed in this manner.

In a lot of ways, this visible weapon flaw is the same as the nerf that afflicts H3 Jackal snipers. They become easily detectable when they have the player in sight. The accuracy reduction is good enough. Why the need for this? I can understand Jackal marksmen using the goggles, since they’re supposed to be accurate but why give it to Jackals snipers that have bad aim even with it?

Also, Reach Elites. They move a lot. As a result, they berserk a lot. Bad balancing. Why is it that the only time I can get an assassination (not the animation one, just the whack on the back) on an Elite without dying is when they’re distracted or berserking? Assassination should be possible even in standard combat. Regular Elites in CE only berserked when they were near death after being unshielded.

These are all basically making an opportunity for the player instead of allowing the player to induce or find an opportunity. I could tolerate H2 Jackal snipers. Why must developers listen to casual players?

If anything, CE rocket launcher Flood were the ones that needed a nerf. They are far more dangerous than a Jackal sniper. Also, CE Wraiths. Both of these enemies can be extremely reckless, something that is rarely seen today. I’ve had moments on Two Betrayals where a Wraith drove to my safe area instead of staying where it usually fires from. I’ve had moments where rocket launcher Flood berserk and charge at me, suiciding and taking me with it.

In the newer Halo games, Wraiths are so easily dispatched it’s not even funny. Rocket launcher Flood are rare in H3 but not harder than your standard Flood. Instead of properly balancing these 2 enemies (which would have included improving), they’ve been made easier to dispatch. Made dumber. Bad balancing.

Back to the Stealth Elites… a better way to balance the Stealth Elites would be to make them become slightly visible when firing (like Reach camo). This is oddly missing in the new graphics when they receive damage while that exists in the old graphics; if it weren’t for my crosshair turning red after I manage to land a shot on a Stealth Elite, I wouldn’t even know if I was hitting a Stealth Elite. They’re that hard to see.

They should become partially visible at some point instead of having their weapons visible all the time.

Get Halo 2 for Windows Vista

They are not going to make a remake, so if you want to play Halo 2 again, PC is the way to go.

Or you can get XboxConnect and play Halo 2 on XBox. Look it up on google.

That will only be half the experience (or is the mp of H2 Vista bad as well?).

Campaign is tarnished by the port to PC:

-can’t crouch while moving forward
-having hold E for getting friendly AI out of vehicles doesn’t work. You have to switch to press E, look away so the prompt disappears, then look back and hold E to get the AI out
-certain Spectres have non-functioning right seats (friendly AI won’t get in them when you get in them)
-AI have scripting problems whereas Xbox AI do not
-even more inconsistencies: AI, vehicles getting deleted
-no sword flying as H2 Vista is based on a TU version
-no splitscreen
-didn’t fix/finish stuff: Heretic Elites take damage when taking cover and eventually die

Other issues:

-need a gaming PC to play the game at decent quality
-no individual sensitivities like in Halo PC
-lower fov
-novsync sucks
-inaccessible to Windows XP users unless they use a crack

The only good things about H2 Vista:

-easy to backup or transfer game saves
-an easy way to unlock all the levels asap
-Map Editor
-modding accessibility (although the tools suck and are really basic: Gravemind, Mr. Mohawk)
-has functioning online mp

I’m not being biased here. I’ve pointed out the good things too. I’m just saying that H2 Vista was a huge disservice. It just doesn’t feel like the Xbox Halo 2. What I would give for a Xbox 360 hard drive so I could at least play H2 on the Xbox 360…

well im pro halo 2 anniversary.

I don’t think they need to update the graphics or any of that, just take the Xbox Version, make it compatible with 360 Live and that’s it. Put it on XBLA for 1200 ms points. That’s the only reason why Halo 2 sucks atm, you have to use tunneling software (XBC, Kai) to experience the multiplayer and not many users know how to use/can be bothered tunneling.

But add in 2 player co-op over Live, and patch the Multiplayer ONLY.

I want to see Halo 2 make a return. The mutliplayer was amazing.

> Halo 2: Anniversary is the way to go.

This is true.

The netcode on XBL 1 vs XBL 2 is different. They shut down original xbox live. The networking code needs to be re-done for XBL 2.

Sorry, but a port won’t work. Anniversary HAS TO BE done for it to work on XBL.

> Halo 2: Anniversary is the way to go.

I think they should just port the game to 360 and make it run with the 360’s XBox Live.

An anniversary would take too long to make, and then people would expect Halo 3 anniversary.

The resources could be better spent elsewhere such as on Halo 4. But a 360 port wouldn’t be nearly as hard to make.

I would say 360 port is the way to go.

The Halo CE PC port had online multiplayer when the CE on Xbox didn’t. Unless you count system link.

They can modify it to work on the new Xbox live. But making new graphics would take too much time when that time could be spent on making Halo 4.

A port would work fine. Any differences between the original XVL and modern XBL are probably in terms of standardization of managing accounts and data; there’s no reason that there would be any issues of netcoding standards. You might have to rebuild the structure that tracks players and gets them into games, but the actual in-game netcode behaviour would probably port fairly easily.

We don’t need a Halo 2 remake or new graphics or anything. Halo anniversary was decent, but not needed. If they bring back Halo 2 multiplayer i’ll be golden.
