Edit: To see a thread that is a bit more helpful than this (I learned quickly after this post of what 343 will be doing) and supports the old Halo 3 ranking system:
Remember the days in Halo 3 when there was an ACTUAL rank system? Where skill could be seen by the numbered rank by your name. Where it actually mattered if your team lost or your score was terrible, so you would eventually get demoted. None of this “gain experience, whether or not you win, for hours and gain rank. Which unlocks new armor/items/loadouts.” While it’s a seemingly nice reward system, it’s flawed. You can just sit in the game, make a couple kills, and still gain experience. This is completely unfair to those who actually pull the weight of the team. There’s other flaws to this um…ranking system, but that’s not what this topic is about.
I know the old ranking system had the flaw of really good players deliberately demoting themselves in order to pubstomp their way back up in the ranks, but I can deal with that. It was fun regardless because the work involved in achieving the next rank was challenging and rewarding in the end. We didn’t have this fancy line of armor to unlock. We had that f’ing number and sense of real accomplishment. We had the REAL feel of what competitive gaming is.
343, I’m not sure if you aren’t implementing some things because you don’t want it to be so close to how Bungie had it – you want it to be your own masterpiece. I get it. That’s fine. There’s necessities for the game, and I’m a firm believer that we need a fair “promotion/demotion” system for this game. Maybe a [Ranked] prefix to some of these gamemodes.
Aren’t we getting a ranking system next year, or am I thinking of something else that 343 plans on implementing? I know this announced something for next year.

The rank system was bull is the halo 3. Join into a losing game lost xp join into another lose more. Oh, you werent good before but got better at the game oh well. Your skill rating has evened out and now you you must play for week to go up in rank once or play a gametype you hate and try to get better at that. The best part is when you run into those f$%^ers who boosted. At least now, you boost, and you get banned. I 1-50 system is in the game, its just not visible.
