Firefight aka Casualfight.
Lets Face it Reach’s firefight is nothing but a boostfest, It’s Cr**. All it is a straight up shootout and its all about the credits, there is NO sense of surival in firefight and to be frank it’s just BORING. There is no incentive to play, you just don’t feel engaged with it there is no surival factor since you have unlimited lives. No wonder there was SO many AFK’s. Why does Halo have to cater to the casuals and relpace the competitivness with gimmicks, why it’s Destroying the FPS Genre. I like to have a good time thats why I play custom games but we still need that competitive egde to the game that sense of achievement and success. Thats what makes a game good last long.
ODST Glory
ODST had it right, in that game firefight was all about surival, when you started the enemy was easy to fight off but as the game went on the game got harder and harder adding to the Excitment, this Forced you to play more carefully as you had only a handfull of lives to share. Also there was incentive to play firefight, getting futher in the game would result in rewards whether it was achievents or new armor (Recon). This made the game more of a challenge. And once everywhile the cheiften would appear and Tear it up, adding a new layer to firefight.
Halo 4
We need Halo 4 firefight (and the Game in general) to have a incentive to play and a sense of a achievement when doing so. This needs to be the default expericence of Halo 4. Doing this will ADD to the game not take away. Players who don’t care about rank/Achievemtns and just want to have fun can still do so, While the competitive player get rewards from playing well and make the game last much longer.
I will agree, ODST had something right, and that version of ODST needs to be emulated more than Reach. On the other hand, Reach’s customization options shouldn’t be lost, and infact, improved upon. And of course, should cR or similar experience system make a return in Halo 4, FF needs to be tuned so it’s not a cR farming-fest.
Just some additional notes on Halo 4 FF:
> We need to bring back a more ODST style firefight, in which there is limited ammo, established weapons picks ups (not weapon drops like Reach). We need to bring back set-specific skulls, and think about adding an economy system not dissimilar from what Horde 2.0 did.
>
> Still, Firefight must move forward and improve upon the customization that Reach introduced. Big of a fan as I am of traditional firefight, I love customization, and customization is everything. Take what Reach introduced (and I do mean everything, including loadouts) and build on that. Allow use to turn on and off the a fore proposed economy system for a more traditional firefight.
>
> We also need firefight forge. A lot of people, myself included, would love to be able to make custom FF maps.
>
> Finally, I think we need a Firefight leaderboard like ODST had. This could be tracked through a “Firefight Unlimited” playlist in matchmaking, and would only feature the default form(s) of Firefight that actually focus on survival.
>
> So, those are my notes on the matter.
FF in Reach was good. Its fun to play with friends and trying to get the highest score.
It was a boost fest? No, if you play normal you did alot of work for the kills.
The only problem was that you get credits if you afk, too. That was bad. To play with afk´s in firefight let me quit the game. I like firefight in reach. I had great fun with it.
For me a boost fest are these custom challenges. 343 should stop custom challenges.
I know alot of people that had boostet alot ranks with these custom challanges.
FF in ODST was great !!! It was pure action. I loved that. The maps were great !!!
I hope in H4 they do a mix between Reach and ODST firefight !!!
And please 343 - STOP THIS CUSTOM CHALLENGE MADNESS !!!

Dude, custom challenges are one of the best things to happen to Halo. I would hardly call it a boost fest since the players cannot set the credit payout.
The key to any survival mode is giving it atmosphere. Reach failed utterly with the cheesy announcer, the rows of shiny medals, the mundane settings and uninspired artistic style… I could go on. ODST only looks in any way good because Reach was so bad.
First off, give each map a backstory, with clues you can find by hunting around. Up the size and complexity, add unlockable areas, scale up the weapons you’ve got access to as you progress. Make vehicles fully integrated and give us a wide variety of them. Add in Flood and Sentinel rounds to mix things up. Meeting bosses when you unlock certain areas would be a good idea too. Oh, and as for the art style: make the maps visually memorable. An ONI base on a distant moon with an underground Forerunner complex, inside the ruined grandeur of the burnt-out High Charity, et cetera. Not a bland beachfront and a water-processing plant. Sheesh, it felt like Bungie were trying to bore us with their locations.
I have to agree with the OP, Halo 3: ODST’s FF felt like a survival type. Reach’s was more of a laid back experience. In Reach you had shields that deflected more damage than the ODST’s. In later updates, you could start out with Rocket Launcher and FRG’s, rendering all but the toughest enemies helpless.
I would like to see both ODST’s survival type FF and Reach’s more customizable features return.

I disagree, I have played both and I like halo reach’s firefight a lot more than ODSTs’. It could be the fact that you could make your enemies in reach’s firefight not only numerous but also challenging. You still get achievements for firefight in reach also. You have the ability to set or play firefight with limited number of lives. I personally play tons of firefight, and if it hadn’t been for reach’s firefight I wouldn’t nearly be as a good as shot.
The thing wrong with odst’s firefight in my opinion is that you ran out of weapons and had to utilize covenant guns. I felt that I was ill equiped and if I’m going to hold a position it would have been nice to have unlimited ammo. Also, as I said earlier, you can make your enemies as hard as you wish in reach, which caters to casuals and competitives alike. There is very few problems with reach’s firefight, and if you don’t want to play firefight matchmaking to earn credits, play custom firefight and set your lives to 1 and enemies to all elites, brutes, and hunters.
Halo 4 needs to have a premice for playing firefight, whether that be by getting armor unlocks or earning credits. I’m sure firefight will evolve as the new trilogy advances, but it is certainly on the right path.
My Dad, My Brother and I could play ODST FF all day everyday and not get tired of it. But wheras Reachs firefight you can personalize every little detail of the gametype to the point where you can stand still with unlimited rockets and you would be racking up the points.
The point of a survival gamtype is to survive. Not run around invincable destroying everything…

That’s why there’s versus. But I don’t get why versus isn’t in MM. Versus meant is you were AFK an Elite would come in and assassinate you. Versus and survival should be in Macthmaking. Arcade should be only for customs.
What? Why does everybody compare it to Matchmaking Firefight? You can still play survival in custom Firefight, you can change the settings to only health and get more resistance so it feels the same like ODST… There are so many options for Reach’s Firefight, don’t say it like Arcadefight is the only game mode.

You don’t have to play Rocketfight or Arcadefight. You can make your own firefight gametype, just like custom games. There are so many settings, wich enemies you want, wich skulls, how sharp hearing the AI’s are, how much damage they do, etc, etc, etc… You can make it as hard as you want.

Nope. In Reach firefight you can’t make the ammo stations have limited ammo, you can’t give the power weapons designated spawns, you can’t make the AI patrol/hunt. I could go on all day. To say it feels the same like ODST is plain ignorant.

Sorry but if you dont know about it - I wont tell you because I dont want u to make a booster. For a few months there was a guide here in the forum how to do it !
google is your friend
I think that the ODST FF was better than Reach FF in almost everything, except maybe the customization that it allowed.
I might get some flame for this, but I would like to see a FF-variant somewhat similar to CoD’s -Yoink!- Zombies minus the zombies. As an example you start off on Security Zone from ODST. Eventually you might get outnumbered by the enemies and you have to retreat to further inside the base (Alpha Site) to be able to defend yourself.
I also would like to see some more maps with drivable veicles in it. Oh, and I miss the Buggers too.
I think one of the problems was arcade fight. All sense of vulnerability is stripped when you give the player 3x overshields, a rocket launcher, and a jetpack. They should still keep it in 4, but also add a survival fight mode where there’s a bigger emphasis on teamwork and holding a position.
What I’m thinking is a firefight game mode where everyone starts with a pistol and an assault rifle, the difficulty is on heroic, and have finite number of br’s and other weapons that spawn on the map every round in similar fashion to the smg’s and pistols in ODST’s firefight.
The people who like odst FF are in the minority. They already brought back ODST FF in reach when they had the playlist that mimiced ODST style and settings. It was the least played FF playlist by ALOT and was retired haha.
