That’s what ranked is. A 24/7 tournament. Dual starts belong in casual for casual players who really dont want to experiment with the sandbox.
You miss the point of the post, the AR/Sidekick are kinda better than what you find on the map.
Why switch off of what works well for something that’s not a power weapon?
Yeah I think the effective range for the AR should be shortened, but that’s about it. I find I’m using other weapons pretty frequently, so I simply disagree.
That’s good that you enjoy BR starts and I hope you have good games in Ranked. For me, BR starts devolve into camping spawns and taking peak shots at one another.
It’s because they demoted BR from an all rounder to strictly a Long Ranged weapon.
Tbh, am okay with that.
I hated BR meta. It’s just too good.
BR ia still deadly at long ranges, so I like it as it is.
Commando needs serious love on the other hand.
It’s an abomination birthed between Carbine and DMR and has none of either’s strengths.
There’s a stark contrast between what you and I do (I too experiment with the sandbox and enjoy it), but let’s try an experiment.
Count how many times you’re killed with starting spawn weapons vs pickups within your matches. I’d wager a daily shop listing the overwhelming majority (80%) of your deaths are going to come from the AR/Sidekick.
Statistically speaking you and I are outliers, our individual experience is going to be in the minority.
You’re probably right, but again I agree with shortening the effective range of the AR. Potentially even the sidekick. I actually countered a sniper with just the sidekick in a BTB. I could’ve swore I have been getting de scoped while using the sidekick, but I’m probably mixing up that memory with with BR.
The AR is actually pretty good in close combat for once. Hits hard like the one in Halo CE.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s definitely needed
-Yoink!- the headshot bonus off AUTOS, and the problem will be less pronounced.
Also why do shields take extra damage in the head to in the body, that’s so stupid, they’re shields. Body part damage should only he relevant once shields are popped.
But hey gotta “moDErNisE” I guess
I thought that’s the way it is? I even read a tool tip mentioning extra damage after shields are popped.
Shields do not take extra damage but there is damage bleed through to health.
Lets say you have 100 health and 100 shields.
And let’s an AR bullet does 20 dmg to body and shields or 45 to head the you’ll see a bleed through.
You get shot and your shield are down to 5.
Now you take a AR shot to the dome. -Yoink!- it is still a head shot the bullet registers 5 dmg to shields and 40 to health. Lowering your Health to 60.
While if you had 100 shields, 4 shots to the head would still do a total of 80 dmg to your shields.
My guess is this is how the Sniper rifle is able to do 2 body or 1 head.
Or the Shock Rifle is able to 4/5 body or 1 head.
People always say this and it’s simply not true. Most of the weapons in this game have a faster time to kill than the BR, some of which kill in one shot. People aren’t going to ignore those weapons just because they have a BR. You know what people do in AR starts though? Ignore most of the weapons in favor of the Sidekick, which is one of the fastest overall ttk’s in the game. Why pick up a ravager or hydra that kills half as fast?
You’d be right except I actually think the AR is fine. I do use the sidekick a lot and keep it on me, for like a pocket BR. People go for BR to map you without a sniper. AR has good TTK and I use it in Arena but in BTB I will always swap it for anything else, especially when there are vehicles across the map in objective. A fast TTK on AR doesn’t matter if you aren’t in range to effectively use it.
You probably play M&K.
The Sidekick is objectively better than the AR in every way, it’s arguably the most powerful weapon in the game For raw kill potential. Especially since they nerfed the AR.
Indeed it’s quite painful on dead lock at least the two places that the BR spawns never change and every time i respawn i always head there.
C&K

The AR and Sidekick have faster TTK’s because the farther the range the more deviation based on bloom and spread comes into play, which in most mid range fights both weapons will kill slower than the BR. Their effective ranges just can’t contend, especially since the BR is effectively usable at pretty much all ranges in Arena play. Once the other team has control of the BR’s or Commando’s, it’s very hard for the other team to break their weapon dominance, which is why for years Halo has been more about spawning with a utility weapon in order to have a fighting chance off of spawn. The fact that the Sidekick isn’t the Magnum is actually fairly bad for this reason, since the BR’s effective range was better managed by the fact that the Magnum’s was very close to it without having the same longer range benefit, making the Magnum the ideal starting weapon (it’s literally one of the only things H5 got right in technical terms).
You can say this all you want but the BR is still better. AR with it’s realistic ttk and lack of range and accuracy make it less effective than a BR. I can get 2-3 kills with one mag in a BR constantly. Can’t d o that with an AR.
