Lets Discuss Halo 5 and the future of Halo

Hey there everyone! I’m a long time halo fan and I think now is the best time to discuss Halo 5 In-Depth and additionally, discuss the future of Halo as we know it. I believe that as a community we should come together and openly discuss key things involving Halo 5 and the future of upcoming Halo games.

The following is all just in my personal opinion and am no way saying every halo fan feels the same way as I do.

| My personal thoughts on Halo 5 |
______________________________

Campaign: When Halo 5 was first shown at E3 (not the teaser, the ACTUAL presentation), the story and gameplay had looked promising, if not interesting and intriguing to say the least. In the coming months, 343 industries starting slowly releasing more footage and tons of teasers involving the story for Halo 5, eventually getting to the point where full blown trailers were shown. Upon release, it seemed that this hype that was built up between Locke VS Chief was purely just marketing material and very little of it besides a small confrontation between the two took place. The trailers had nearly made it seem like a grand duel between the two would take place and one would surely die, if not get severely injured. The campaign itself wasn’t horrible and had some great moments and areas to explore, but it wasn’t quite what we were lead to believe the game would be about. The game starts off a bit rough as so many new characters are introduced. The previous installment (Halo 4) was just starting to touch up on more character development for Chief and rushing into adding so many more characters ended up making the story as a whole fall short.

Gameplay & Multiplayer: I want to start off by saying I was super critical of the gameplay changes 343 was making in Halo 5 and honestly didn’t believe they belonged in a Halo game. When I first got hands on the closed beta, I was stunned on how much I had loved nearly all the gameplay changes they had made. Upon release, I was stoked to finally get back to playing Halo again and for the first two weeks of after launch, I was having a blast! However, this would quickly come to an abrupt end. The gameplay itself felt great, but the multiplayer lacked a decent ranking system, playlist variety and REQ’s gave me no feeling of accomplishment. Even with the game slowly starting to become boring, I had faith that the game would get significant updates for content, unfortunately, they weren’t what I expected. When I had first heard about the idea of “Featured playlists” that took place on the weekends, I felt completely let down. Team Doubles and Snipers were two of my favorite modes on past Halo games and it seemed ridiculous thatThese classic modes held their own population wise in previous games, so why make them temporarily playlists? If you could forgive that, you would find it even harder to forgive the RNG system of REQ’s and the ranking system. In previous games, it was super rewarding to get armor pieces because you had a clear goal of what you needed to do to get it and that would come with a price of difficulty. Beat the game on legendary? YOU GOT IT! Mongoos Mowdown? I uh, actually think ill just try that one later…

My Final Thoughts: Halo 5 wasn’t a bad game by any means, but it was held back from being an amazing game. The way I’ve always looked at sequels and new installments are that you always want to try and innovate and create both a new and familiar experience for the player to enjoy that tops the previous game. Here’s the problem, though, what holds Halo 5 back from truly being great, is making changes in areas that really didn’t need any tweaking. The Rank system in Halo 2/3 worked just fine, the way you earned armor pieces had been a huge success in Halo 3 and the vast amount of playlists in previous games gave players tons of content to play. The Campaign seemed to progress too quickly with a large amount of content to feed to the players. I don’t think team Osiris or Blue team being added the story was a horrible idea, it’s the introduction and pace they’re shoved down your throat that ruins it. I personally believe that if halo 5 slowly started introducing each of the teams and its members and in Halo 6 finally had it all come together, the story could have been great! However, with the huge change in character development we just witnessed in Halo 4, the story behind Halo 5 was just too much to swallow. I’m not sure what the future holds for Halo 5 but i do think a lot needs to change in order to get Halo back on top.

If you’ve made it this far, you’re either a true spartan or you just glimpsed at the post like a poo poo head. Regardless, i would love to hear your opinions on all this and if you agree with me or think i’m full of poo poo and disagree. Did you Like Halo 5? What do you think the future holds for it? Respond below so we can discuss this as a community

Playable elites?

Seriously it’s not even that hard of a thing to readd. Just make them smaller and stand up right. Literally every problem solved in less then 200 characters.

On topic, OP I agree. halo 5 isn’t a bad game, it’s just a bad Halo game. Well the campaign sucked regardless of context but yeah the MP is pretty solid it just doesn’t enough like Halo.

It feels like someone wants to make a Halo game but is scared of being sued by MS.

I honestly don’t see why they weren’t added, even to halo 4 for that matter. I find that a good portion of games seemingly removes some of the best features of previous games for the oddest reasons. I don’t know if including just Elites fixes everything but its a step in the right direction.

Campaign-

  • develop a decent plot that focuses on Master Chief
  • don’t mislead on the advertising like what happened with Halo 5
  • different environments would be welcome
  • difficulty does not relate to bullet sponges…

Multiplayer-

  • get rid of sprint (you’ve had two sequels to alter it and it’s still a problem…the experiment is over)
  • create some interesting maps for a change, particularly with different colour schemes/environments (no more corridors/urban military theme)
  • a decent ranking system e.g. Highest Skill 1-50 would be more than welcome
  • stop rotating playlists and make them permanent… I’m looking at you Team Snipers (in my opinion this says something about the population)
  • turn the announcers voice back to it’s original sound

Forge-

  • maybe make the controls slightly less intricate and user friendly
  • can I ask why the coordinate numbers changed out of interest?..
  • give us full blown covenant architecture… even forerunner stuff?
  • in general the Halo 5 forge is brilliant, but for me it simply takes too long and isn’t user friendly enough for the time I get to play

Halo 5 has become one of my favorite MP in the series. It is also my least favourite story in campaign.

But it there are a lot of us who feel this way.

To touch on your points that have been discussed here to death.

Ranking system- not that great. 1 to 50 works better. I don’t like monthly resets. But 343 is not responsible primarily for the broken ranking system. That one lies at the feet of the community and Microsoft for allowing multiple users on one xbl account. I don’t see how a developer can build a proper ranking system when a very large number of the gamers left are playing under smurf accounts deliberately breaking ranks to boost their friends.

Req system is fine. It’s just way too cluttered with trash no one ever uses. And commendation based unlockable armour sets need to still be a thing. There absolutely no reason we can’t have our unlockable armour while 343 continues with their req system (which I prefer so much more than paid dlc).

Halo 6 should continue in halo 5 direction for MP. But release with suitable content, split screen, and a real classic playlist to appease halo 3 vets who Havnt been happy with a halo game in a decade.

They need to do something very different with the story. Halo 5 story was a disaster. Horribly told. Campaign had zero replay ability.

Theres big big room for improvement hopefully 343 listens (they clearly did with elements of halo 5) and hopefully Microsoft allows them to build the game we all want. But imo halo 5 mp was a win. Just needs server selection, that custom game browser, and way more content at launch.
