Lets call Ranks: Place-Holders

Ranks in this game only mean that you are getting placed in certain categories. It dictates who you will be playing against and even that is questionable sometimes. In Halo 2 and Halo 3 it meant something to get to General or even Brigadier for that matter. It meant you played with the best of the best and was easily accessed through two presses of a button that gave you a single screen layout of a basic view of his/her service record. I remember regularly telling my friends, “Check it out! I went up 2 ranks yesterday!”

Now, not only do our ranks get wiped and we have to start over but, the little emblem we get for “placing” for the season is underwhelming at best. My Onyx or Diamond from last season doesn’t mean squat because fate basically decides where I have to grind from this season and it feel like I have to comb through sections of a service record to get one tiny bit of information. I will ask for two things in this post:

  1. Give us the choice to reset our ranks at the beginning of a new season. Let us decide if we are happy with our ranks. I for one like playing in the Onyx and Diamond categories and enjoy the challenge. I don’t need to be babied. When Halo 3 was prevalent, I remember taking a couple years to achieve what I did. When you decide to wipe what I strived for, it gets on my nerves a bit.

  2. Let us show our Highest Rank to everyone. I am personally proud of what I have achieved in Breakout and/or Slayer. Why can’t we display our Highest Rank to all in the pregame lobby of matchmaking(Minus Pre-Season). I’m sorry to tell you but, that emblem you gave us is already among the others that aren’t very memorable.

Yeah I’m all for a Halo 3 rank system, I’ll even accept keeping the League of Looser ranks instead of 1-50 which in my opinion is more precise that 5 colors with 6 shades.

I miss being able to flaunt my Brigadier General in a game full of Majors tier 4s and when I destroyed them it was no surprise. The other thay I destroyed a Champ in FFA with just standard load out and it was disappointing.

I want to assess peoples skill before the match so i know what play style or strategy to use.

I would like it to show what our highest is in game. I will say this; I liked Reach’s rank system as well. It was all “put time into the game based” but it was a more simple system that I enjoyed. They could get rid of the SR# system and incorporate what reach had into this game along with the divisional thing.

Resetting as an option sounds like it’d get only used by people lower than platinum or those that are stuck somewhere they don’t belong, which I haven’t heard of since the pre-season ended. Still an interesting idea, I don’t see a reason not to support this.
