Let us have an Anthem/Warframe-style colors system

Coatings have proven to be more restrictive than a lot of us initially thought. I think they can still exist and be sold as quick presets. But those of us who want deeper customization should be able to buy/unlock color palettes, textures and skins, for unbridled use however we want.

Balance of Palettes/Textures & Coating Presets

If you use palettes and textures, you get deeper control and can truly design the character you want. Downside is you have to grind/buy all the necessary pieces to complete the look you want.
If you use a preset, you could get access to some cool combinations quickly, without having to unlock individual pallets, textures, etc. Downside is you get less control.

Both systems can coexist without removing the other’s utility, and both can be monetized if necessary! What do you all think?

I think you’re absolutely right. Coatings or Color Sets can be preset patterns, colors, materials and wear patterns that have a more “Legendary” or special look to them that would be unachievable through normal customization means (i.e, Scorpion Punch’s black and red stripe setup vs standard black and red)
Whilst standard color customization can be something similar to what legacy Halo games had with a standard universal pattern system and a color palette to choose from. This way, if someone wants to wear blue and yellow they can either rock the free standard pattern option or the blue and yellow/gold Golden Estate coating

There’s a bug in the mobile waypoint app that proves coatings are compatible cross-armor with no UV issues. There’s no reason 343 couldn’t overhaul their coating system to allow you to mix and match coatings on different parts of the armors.
