In Halo 3, elephants were invulnerable to any type of damage. With the dawn of the Mammoths in Halo 4, and assuming that they will be featured in some way in multiplayer, we should be able to destroy Mammoths. How? From the inside. It would encourage players to play strategically and it would be a fun secondary objective to set out with your friends and destroy the enemy’s mammoth.
But how from the inside? Just like how plasma AA guns run on cores, the Mammoth should run on some kind of exposed core. To destroy it, enemies would have to bash through glass shielding it, its different layers, and finally the main core powering the mammoth. This’ll give us a feeling similar to that of destroying a Scarab by only having second to get out(Maybe by hijacking mongooses or warthogs stored inside).
It would bring a twist to game modes like Big Team Battle, since it would allow is to have an optional objective to complete. Upon destroying the Mammoth, the explosion should annihilate anyone inside or near its blast and reward the player who destroye the core with a new medal.
Mammoths are relatively fast moving vehicles compared to Elephants, so boarding it would mean a Falcon would have to drop you in from above or manually entering it from its entrance(s).
What do you guys think?
Another thing, let us blow out its enormous tires by the means of heavy weapons to disable it and allow us to board it.
Thats not a terrible idea… when I saw this thread my instant thought was, Not a chance. Maybe a mammoth should be able to damage, scratch up, etc in multiplayer but destroying it from the inside out would be cool. It just shouldn’t be an easy task to do in my opinion.

It would give you an enormous feeling of accomplishment if you destroy a fully loaded one. I’ve always wished that the Elephants were like this.
This could be a whole new game type if you ask me. Like Titan mode from Battlefield 2142.

I miss Titan mode so much. It’s probably my favorite game type of all time, it was truly rewarding and epic to destroy one. But the thing is, player population in Halo would be too small for this. And Mammoths are relatively small in size to have its own game mode.

ZOMG THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS!!!
Sorry, I -Yoink!- out whenever someone mentions Titan mode from 2142.
Best game mode I’ve ever played in an FPS. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t usually like Battlefield more than other games.
While I’m sure we will witness some Mammoths getting destroyed in the campaign I don’t think we will see them in multiplayer. They are almost twice the size of the elephant and we have seen no map capable of supporting a vehicle that size.
How about a gametype where both teams have a Mammoth as their mobile base, which contains that team’s vehicles and power weapons. Blowing up the enemies Mammoth would eliminate them of many strategic and vehicular options, and force them into a more guerrilla-style play.

A variant of Assault called ‘The Stone Age’ that only allows players to stay within the boundaries of their Mammoth or the enemy’s and arm a bomb in the Mammoth’s core.
How about a shield degeneration area around the core of the mammoth that drains your shields more as you get closer?

That would be cool, it would make it easier on the defenders to kill any of the raiders and it would force you to be quick when destroying the core.
