I think Halo 5 & 4 were two games that were far too community driven. There not bad games at all but they are both far from flawless and imo 343 should be making this game not us. As an artist I think certain things like video games, music, and movies shouldnt be influenced by the community this much. The reason for this is because we have no clue whats best for this game. Ideas can very easliy sound good to us or better then others in are head but might not translate to reality. I think that forums should be here bug fixs and small refinments. To me the best art and entertainment is made when the creator has full range to do what they want to do and not have follow guidelines. There is strong evidence in history that when people are able to be passionate about somthing and have a vision for what they want it turns out better. If that means classic or new gameplay mechanics that shouldnt be up to us. Why not niether? No one wants Halo 3.5 so why would any one want halo 5.5? What if they went in a completley new direction (thats not copying other games, Halo 4 lol). We dont need another spin on a battle roayle game. I’m just saying the devs could go any direction with this game and thst shouldnt be up to us. If they want to bring old Halo back then great. If they want to keep building off Halo 5 then great. If they want to go in a new directon all togeather then great as long as it is what they want to do not what we want them to do. Classic vs new gameplay arguments is a very touchy subect and that is not what this thread was made for and I do not take either side of the topic so please dont get offended by anything I said. Its there job to make the game not are job and history shows that the most legendary music, movies, and video games are the ones that artist creates not the fans. I know this might not what people want to hear because you might be passionate in what you want and I respect everyones opinion but the reality of it is, is that this is not any of our game. Let 343 have full control over the game and I promis you that if Microsoft doesnt give them the guidlines we set for them it will be a great game either way and that game will get the most sales not the game we make. Sorry for the bad grammer and spelling lol. I typed this all on my phone and I suck at typing on this thing so I apoligize in advance.
Heres an example. Imaginr if you were a musician and someone told you what genre you had to play and what the song had to be about. They told you you had to sing about politics but you just didnt care about politics. That song is not gonna turn out as good as the song you wanted to right about love because you just found someone that you means a lot to you. I know thats a cheesy way to put it lol but thats the point im trying to make. Let them makw what they want. If we do that it will be a great Halk game no matter what!
I think it was quite the opposite and especially halo 5 and now they are listening to the community more people wanted the old artstyle for years and now we are getting that I know people want the old school gameplay will it be that too? that remains to be seen so we’ll see and they are focusing on chief after the backlash 5 got so they are taking our feedback strongly and im happy that they are taking feedback very seriously and applying it to their games and other devs like ea and activision need to take a hint from 343 and other devs that listening to feedback from consumers and fans can help make games the best it can be

No yeah they are for sure theyve been this whole time sice Halo 4. Cortona came back to life in Halo 5 only because fans made post on how it sucks that shes gone. So ms made 343 put her back in the game. Also remember how there was that whole sprint vote thing and 90% of everyone said sprint should be in the game. Also I think prople were made about halo 4 and how it just wasnt halo anymore so they made Halo 5 just Halo but with ablities. Idk tho imo theyve been listening this whole time and still are. I prefer classic Halo BUT I ld rather them make the game the way they want to make it not the way I want so I guess well just see by the qualitiy of the game lol.
How was Halo 4 a “community driven” game?
warzone. Was their idea. Personally imo wasnt as great as big team nor invasion. The idea of incorperating AI into multiplayer might have been a good idea thou. The idea of big maps might have been a good idea thou. So feedback is nice… especially when it is the consumers opinion. Of course, we shouldnt dictate 343’s decisions. But here is what it boils down to. If you have a good idea, suggest it, and the 343 decides to do something else… instead of that idea
If its a great accepted idea, then awesome, 343 made a ballsy move and succeeded
If it fails… there are no excuses really… especially after trying 2 times before.
Realistically speaking… I welcome innovation and creativity. But i think it would be very wise if 343 made themselves a safety net. If their idea doesn’t pull through then there is always the great plus that the feature we requested is there.
But its not all that simple with somethings… for example gameplay mechanics. Then there is the variable of community count… and a comprimise, or something entirely new is required. Its been quite clear… that the community is split over their preference. But an over arching idea goes like this: People want to get around the map faster… and people dont want sprint. People could care less about ground pound and the front bash. Thrusters are meh. Aiming… preferably on percision weapons. That is what i am getting from reading other people’s opinions. Simple, competitive, fun, and strategic in a game. Is it possible? I hope so. Can 343 pull it off? I hope so. Will they simply just listen to us… unlikely. Will they incorporate our ideas into their own… likely.
343 is an industry that learns from its mistakes. I have to give that to them. And their trailer of their engine speaks volumes to how much they care about the community.
The relevance of feedback in art isn’t as simple as you make it out to be. As fun as it is to imagine that artists can just follow their desires and create whatever they want, the reality is that anyone who makes a living out of it will have to consider feedback from the people who buy the art. If you don’t, you will end up in a situation where you have no audience, and if you have no audience, you have no living. While that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a bad artist, it does mean you’re a bad businessman.
Developers don’t, nor should they, ignore player feedback. However, anyone who thinks any developer is out there listening to people’s game design suggestions and blindly implementing them verbatim is fooling themselves. It’s a dialogue between the feedback, and what the designer thinks is best. If a designer makes a decision based on feedback, it shouldn’t (and for any competent designer isn’t) be solely because many people demanded it, but because the designer agrees with the feedback that it’s the right thing to do.

Many people would disagree, and would say that Halo 4 and 5 ignored a lot of what people in the community wanted, which in turn made the games bad. This may not be true, but those games certainly weren’t too community driven.

The forums are here for exactly what have always been for: for community members to come together and discuss about whatever Halo related topics they want (with some exceptions). It might be asking for help, it might be feedback of any nature, it might be academic discussion about the game’s design or lore, and so on. As long as it’s Halo related and abides to the rules, it’s good to go, and that’s fine. Because this forum is primarily a place for community members to share their thoughts on Halo.
Of course, everyone should come here with the understanding is that 343i is in no way obliged to take any of the feedback they have, and that they will be primarily discussing with other community members, not with the developers.
Halo 4 was completely 343 designed not community. Halo 5 was the same. Nobody asked for advanced movement btbthats what they gave us. Tell me how well did that go over in the community? Tell me how it didn’t split the fan base into 2 camps. One camp the classic camp has been ignored for a long time.
I think Halo 4/5 were the opposite of the communities game. That’s what 343i wanted to do and it got a lot of backlash. I think to make the best game you need a mix of a passionate and strong vision and community feedback.
I don’t see how they were community driven at all. Maybe halo 5 after the backlash that came at launch, through all those updates but certainly not the original version. Honestly though if most the community made the game I feel like we’d get a whole bunch of halo 3 clones
343 has been able to leave their stamp on the series just fine.
