at least a volume slider. it’s the sound that is chalk on the board for me.

The visual effects don’t really bug me that much, but the audio—particularly the wolf howl—gets on my nerves beyond belief.

Thanks to matchmaking, this works only for approx. 50% of the matches

Woke up to this this morning. It’s like the birthday celebration from Halo Reach… here we go again!

I’ll echo your sentiments, because I’m actually concerned for folks who have sensory issues getting flashbanged by effects. I don’t personally mind it a lot, but I do mind it a little. I can’t imagine how someone with a disability that makes them more sensitive to it all feels.

Obviously people react to things differently.

But I am struggling with the concept that a little splash animation at the end of your death is the tipping point. And not anything on the screen in the few minutes before this.

Is it the emotional overlay of being disappointed in losing the point? Or a different focus now that you aren’t controlling your Spartan? Or the inconsistency of different effects? The transition to nothing?

I very much dislike all the VFX effects including their accompanying sound effects within the PvP multiplayer component of the game and I wish there was a toggle for me to turn them off simply from my gameplay perspective. I primarily dislike them because they often remove my sense of immersion. I wasn’t a fan of them in Halo Reach or Halo 3 either, but at least in H3 it was extremely limited and simply signified that you were playing with, or facing off against, a developer.

Totally agree with this OP. Would be a great QoL improvement. There’s one in particular which my cat absolutely detests so if he’s sitting on my lap while I’m playing, I get a swift kick to the crotch as he jumps off

It’s how much of the screen it can take up and how a lot of the kill sounds are actually quite sharp. They’ve had their volume adjusted downwards, I think - which is good. But it also comes rather suddenly - death catches you off guard and BAM. Flash of color and a sharp sound. Not pleasant for some, I imagine.

Not saying any of this because I dislike them btw. The wolf one is equipped on every weapon that can take it, for me.

What is special about the 8th? Surely you must see the Yappening kill effect everywhere already, since that was free as well?

They’re dropping the new 30 tier battle pass, and one of the items you can acquire is the grunts birthday party kill effect.

It doesn’t sound like a wolf howl, it sounds like an eleven years old boy saying ooo

I wish we could disable them as well. The new grunt birthday party is going to be ANNOYING! Just like it was in Reach. I also want to disable armor cosmetics like you can in MCC.

Does it have sound effects as well? I found the wolf KE distracting because of the sound effects, and the one that sounds like broken glass. They should have their own volume slider but it’s grouped with the AI voice.

That is a very odd grouping. Should definitely have its own independent slider

Ahem:

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

you’re gonna love the spawns now too!!! YAY!!!

My take on the kill effects, with me being at the halfway point between Halo Boomer and Halo Zoomer (I hopped in around 2009), is that they should be closer to the death effects we had in Reach.

Boomers insistence that Halo should never get any new content whatsoever and we should just be playing Halo 2 for eternity is just harmful to the franchise’s longterm health. (No game is perfect except TeamFortress 2.)

On the other hand, Zoomers insistence that every kill needs to have the game pat you on the -Yoink!- and announce to everybody around you that you performed a basic action in a video game but in the most obnoxious and caustic way is so unbelievably annoying. These effects are the visual equivalent of blue raspberry flavoring. Are the hitsounds and crunchy bleep whenever you kill someone not enough??? The visual stimulus of the shields popping and death moans just too milquetoast for you all?

Which is why kill effects like the armor effects in Reach is a happy middle ground. They were never auditory or visually in your face. Very little clutter
Largely centered around the small area in which the person died and the effects were sparce but not so spread apart that they werent noticeable. Not loud either.

But also yeah give me the option to just shut them off wholesale. I dont use them and I dont really want to see them either.
