First of all, I’ve never really been into Halo that much, even though I wanted to. Until I tried it out with Xbox Game Pass I had no clue what Halo was or wanted to be. So I downloaded it (Halo 5), played it and was pretty dissapointed a few minutes after. What the hell is this?
While some of you may feel offended now, please don’t. I really want Halo to be an awesome franchise with throllith action and breath-taking emotional stories.
So I’m pretty new to the Halo Franchise. I heard a bit about the story before, especially the fact that Cortana is/was in the game and on Windows 10/Xbox is super amazing. I thought Halo would have so much story on it… but there isn’t. There just isn’t.
I think that Halo: Infinite should make a or a few steps towarcs becoming an RPG/open-world type of game like Mass Effect, Anthem, Destiny… the list goes on. That’s so much story to be told in the Halo unobeuni, it’s an absolute shame nobody user the opportunity yet. There could be so many interesting character developments, decisions to make, action-packed moments to expirience, worlds to explore… and yet, it’s a basic linear shooter game.
I think even the core Halo fanbase would appreciate an open-world story-based halp game just as much as all the new players that would buy Halo for this. You have the capabilties, the support of the community, the story to build up on… mlwdo something and give Xbox the Halo game we deserve.

italics: universe?
You know neither of those happen just because you make an RPG out of a game.
Destiny at the moment isn’t the poster child of FPS RPG games with lots of content, interestinf characters and decisions. Anthem isn’t even out yet for that matter. I haven’t touched the Mass Effect games so I can’t say much about andromeda.
You also need to consider the story pacing goes out the window if you have a massive threat on the horizon which wait for you patiently while you go lollygagging in a cave, window shopping through the galaxy or do all kinds of massive side quests. Many of the open world sandbox games have issues with this.
Sure, I can spend three hours going through every detail of a small room in a linear game, but there’s a difference.
Linear shooters can do what you asked, they just need to do it right.
There’s also a place in the game world for them.
That’s not to say Halo fans haven’t asked for a Mass Effect:esque Halo game, however as a spin-off rather than a main title, like ODST, Reach, Halo Wars and so forth.

I’m thinking that since this is 343i’s final major Halo game (likely) that they’re going to fill it as much as possible with any action-based experiences, it could even be a mixture of all fps elements and the ability to travel to different worlds around the galaxy is a must. The Halo lore is just so enormous and feels so untouched, only way I could see them go in-depth is with side Halo games, comics or even the recently announced tv series

Firstly, possibly the worst place to start trying out Halo is H5g so im not surprised of the reaction.
And Halo could use some open world aspects but maybe mostly on map design, some maps could be a bit more open or approachable in multiple ways like for example the “Halo” level in Halo: Combat Evolved.
But I dont think Halo should start mixing up the base game formula anymore given Halo has been rather story based game told by a certain characters perspective which is easier for its rather expansive lore.
Also could have been done without the ending part, no one can really talk for other people as in what they want.
We have enough open-world RPG games. I don’t think 343 is in position to mess with the formula anymore for a while after Halo 4 and 5. Let Halo be Halo.
For the main series I’d say absolutely not. If they want to have a side series or something (like Halo wars, ODST, etc) I’m ok with that. Microsoft could have s other company work on that game or series just like Halo wars.
I think if the main series went that route it would destroy the fanbase I feel. They expect a certain type/style of halo game. I’m telling you right now, if the new Halo game isn’t level based like the other ones, I think it won’t be received well at all.
I would love a Halo RPG but as a spin off focusing on different characters and stories, not part of the main series. That I would prefer to focus on Chief and be linear.
Halo Infinite being that? No thanks. That would change Halo’s core identity too much. But before you say “just make it a little bit RPG, like Destiny”, remember that Destiny 1 was rife with controversy, one of the biggest vanilla issues being lackluster story, which is one of the points you said making Halo mor RPG-like would make better. And Destiny 2 isn’t doing better on the Feedback front; many players feel like the franchise is suffering from identity problems, not knowing what it wants to be. And Destiny is pretty much the only example of an FPS-RPG that exists right now, and it’s not the kind of example that screams “this works” when it comes to blending FPS and RPG together.

I doubt it will be their final game. Hard to justify the time and money put into a whole new engine for just one game.

> I… what?
> How did you come to that conclusion?
So 343i will be creating future Halos with Master Chief as the main role? (e.g Halo 7, 8, 9, and 10)
Op you have no idea how much I want to rip into you right now. You say halo doesn’t have a good story yet you start on the game with the worst one. Play mic play 1-4 much better story arch and it makes sense. Also destiny blows and I won’t support bungievision. I bet I’m not alone. Halo is a FIRST PERSN SHOOTER. Not a rpg not a open world game it has never been. There is games like far cry for that
Definitely not. I love RPGs, it’s not like Halo is all I play (I lost my mind for Cyberpunk and new Elder Scrolls game) but thats just plain not Halo. There’s so many other games in that area to play instead.
I am legitimately worried that because Halo 4 put in loadouts when they were popular and Guardians put advanced movement in because that was popular that 343 is going to be tempted to make an open world shared universe game for Infinite like the Division or Destiny. I think if they did that it would be the final nail in Halo’s coffin. Which, even though I’m not super happy with how the series has progressed, I still love Halo and want nothing more than to see it succeed. But moving even farther away from what originally made it successful is not the way to go.

but it already is.
you simply didn’t dive in deep enough yet.
before you say such false things, you should most definitely check out Halo’s EU.
There are about two dozen novels already out with more to come,
5 major games, 2 RTS spin-offs, 2 mobile games,
multiple comics, 2 series’ or “short movies”;
and a lot of other stuff like toys and akin
you see, just because you don’t know about that stuff, it isn’t non-existent.
besides that Mass Effect, Destiny & the not-yet released Anthem are completely different kind of games.
If you like those games & don’t like the Halo-Games, well, in that case those games aren’t something for you,
so please, speak for yourself when you ask for such a drastic change when this franchise survived about 16 years without taking your proposed route.
