I see a lot of people talking about the quit ban in the forums lately. I saw a thread against it, and one with it. I respect both opinions, but I personally see no point in a “ban” for quitting. A solution is to deduct XP. I’m not sure how you accumulate it in Halo 4, but if it’s anything like credits, it needs to have a specific pattern.
-In one day-
1st quit - No penalty
2nd quit - 10XP lost
3rd quit - 25XP lost
4th quit - 50XP lost
5th quit - 100XP lost
and so on. You should have the option to appeal your credit loss with an automated system. You get 3 appeals per month. The appeal gives you your XP back, but if you’re a repeat-offender in a year, you cannot get them back (Repeat offender = 100+ quits that resulted in loss of credits, 1 quit a day is fine). I see how the appeal system could be abused for free XP, but if someone is caught doing that somehow, they should lose double what they earned, plus a ban from War Games for a week.
A harsher penalty will not make people stay in the game it will just make them not play the game at all lol and what about people that lag out or have other reasons to leave?

In a ranked setting I guess something that makes you slowly lose rank is an okay idea If you actualy are just quitting out. I just think counting quits as a loss is fair enough…maybe lose any credits you gained from the match.

If you read precisely, they were two threads on both sides of the argument. This is a thread meant to find a solution. If offensive posts is all you can do, I suggest you go read /int/ or /b/ from now on.

Now we have two threads on one side of the argument. (Seriously, that week-ban proposal thread was just a raging over-exaggeration IMO)

XP = Credits. Not many players care about their stats, so just counting a loss isn’t enough. Trust me, I’ve -Yoinked!- my head off about having a quit ban before, the best solution is to just deduct an amount of XP/Credits per quit, with in getting higher as the day goes on. There’s also the appeal system in case any reason for a quit is fair (Lagg, bad team etc). If we are going Ranked/Social, the quit penalty should apply to both, but less so in Social.

I think there were plenty of great solutions in both threads that you could have contributed to . . .

This thread is in the middle of both. One side doesn’t want any sort of penalty, the other wants harsher penalties. This thread is in the middle with a fair solution both sides want.

There’re lots of “in-between” proposals in both threads. And lots of discussion going there.

While myself and the rest of the community (assuming) thank you for your intentions, I would have to disagree.
This thread cannot be in the middle since it is advocating that there should be a quit ban. Also, you cannot possibly be able to decide on your own what both sides want.
I do like your idea though.
Also, how would you adjust for the ability to be able to “join in progress”?
I would assume that if there is something in place for quitters, then it will be really light. Similar to CoD’s approach.

Wait, a harsher quit ban will make quitters leave Halo?

As I’ve said before, I wouldn’t shed one tear over quitter’s absence, but that would not be looked highly upon by 343i. Losing fans is not their motive.
i promise you im not going to concern myself with xp if iv got something more important than the game needing my attention, it wont stop anybody from quitting,it never will so everyone should just get over it and quit concerning themselfs with other peoples punishment.
If Halo 4’s multiplayer system was going to be like the other Halo games I would usually agree with the quit ban. That being said, Halo 4 is different than the other Halo’s in the multiplayer respect for more than a few reasons, the only reason on topic being DROP IN PLAYERS (My way to reference Join in Progress games).
I sincerely no longer believe that a quit ban is necessary for Halo since the any players lost become replaced by others. Because we don’t have to worry about being down a man anymore why should we care if someone quits? Sure it can throw a team off balance . . . but it isn’t the end of the world anymore.
The only penalty for quitting a match should be NOT receiving the credit’s you’ve earned from that game. There should be no loss of credits that have already been earned. Maybe a stern little message can display on your screen telling you that quitting is bad, or a troll face will appear on your screen for ten seconds and you can’t do anything until it disappears but nothing as drastic as a quit ban.
Of course, that’s all my opinion but I don’t see any ‘real’ arguments against it.
