It’s the year 2558 (or so) in the Halo universe, MJOLNIR has gone through various versions and models, and the MJOLNIR Spartans in multiplayer wear is MK VII/ Gen 2. And yet, it seems the previous and now outdated models of MJOLNIR had a great usability feature that MK. VII lacks. Can you guess?
LIGHT FILTERING. Come on now, be honest with me. Have you ever seen a lot of lens flare or even be blinded with it in past games when you were equipped with MK. V, MK V , or MK VI? I’m betting you didn’t. And yet, MK. VII’s Heads-Up-Display and visor systems lack the ability to adjust to light so the user’s performance isn’t degraded by such pesky lens flare. Did the UNSC just forget about this, or what?
It just doesn’t make any sense in a canonical view, and since multiplayer is now canon, what’s up? I’m baffled as to why when I’m in the back of the map Wreckage looking to cliff side I’m literally blinded by lens flare.
And why did they forget to install a compass in the HUD for MK. VI and MK. VII? MK. V had one!
That’s what happens when 343i lets JJ Abrams design multiplayer maps.
Hm. Maybe this should go in the Universe section on second thought. lol
I think it works fine here. After all it is a gameplay issue on maps with obscene lens flare and does raise some canonical questions as well.
It’s probably just a simple oversight. Just like the missing compass.

If you look at the 2D concept of the HUD, you will see that the compass is missing. So it look like it’s just a simple mistake on the design side. Both errors are probably due to time constraints.

lmfao never thought of it that way but to be fair it works better in the films but not so much in halo games.
One of the things they had to loose to be able to mass produce armor.
While Lense Flaring may seem ridiculous, in Ghosts of Onyx, it’s stated that some of the lights they encounter are so incredibly bright, not even maximum polarization can stop lense glare.

You guys complain over every small thing just to be hard on 343i. GT*O

Forerunner kind of bright, I guess? So light from a sun on Wreckage would be that bright, and without polarization it’d be literally blinding?
Above: I’m just sticking it to 343i on their lore, really. I actually think a moderate amount of lens flare is pretty and looks nice, but I question the validity of such within the confines of Halo lore.
Well, I meant Lense Flare from Forerunner structures. Lense flare from the sun has been in Halo since CE.

Kind of, kind of not. The kind Wreckage utilizes is a big heavy dosage of ‘god rays’ or whatever they’re called. In the previous games, if you looked from a dark area to a bright area it would take a second to adjust to the light. Pretty different I think.
