Hey all,
I dont want this to come off as bashing, because that’s the farthest thing I want to do, but, I’ve been thinking about Infinite and I gotta say, I’m a tad worried.
Let me preface with I have been playing since on the OG Xbox, played all the games except Guardians and Halo Wars 2 (currently going thru the 1st one as RTS’s aren’t my style).
However, I’ve been thinking about the development of the campaign and its awesome that 343 are being upfront without trying to hide about the previous bad news, I applaud and encourage that - set expectations, I’m excited to jump back into Halo, but I am worried about the campaign.
Mainly that it seems to me there hasn’t been as much info as I’d like to hear, not saying spoiler-level, but I’m hoping this extra year did some good for the over-all development.
I am rooting for you 343, truly I want this to be great, but, I’m just worried about the lack of info on the campaign.
Hey. Don’t worry. I’d rather there was less info about campaign. I don’t want spoilers. I’m sure in month prior to launch the hype and marketing will kick into overdrive. Over two months prior to launch, they’re leaving it to YouTube and forums to keep publicity going
We were burnt badly by Halo 5. The pre-game hype came thick and fast… and spoiled a story line that didn’t really eventuate.
I’m happy with not knowing much. Just the fact that Joseph Staten is happy is enough.
I would like to see some Campaign gameplay to show how far we’ve come graphically (textures, lighting, pop-in)… but I’m more than happy to hit Dec 8 blind.
Yeah, I get the concern. I’m not exactly worried per say, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to slap a $60 dollar price tag on a campaign that we’ve only seen one demo for. This close to launch, we ought to have at least something that justifies a preorder or a purchase. I want something, ANYTHING that says “Hey player, get excited! This is going to be the best thing you’ve ever played!” in big fat bold text, like an advertisement or a new trailer, or even gameplay.

They had like 6 seconds of footage in the last Development Update. It looks fantastic.
I kinda like not knowing much about the campaign. I think we all really take for granted just how much we enjoyed every single thing about older games being a surprise. Like, even just showing us new weapons means I no longer have that “whoa whats this??” moment when I first encounter it. Also, not showing us a ton of super high octane, plot revealing, or cliffhanger moments keeps people from having unrealistic expectations (even though plenty of people already do).

Agreed.
MS went hard on not only standard promotional flair, but getting the lore involved through HTT podcast, and trailers themselves being less action spectacles, and more exposition set-ups.
They remember how sideways that went, just as much as we do, and are likely playing their cards very close to the chest this time.
As for the campaign structurally? From the Dev interviews in the updates, it’s clear that the original ‘structure’ of the game was quite meh and all over the place. Once Joe got involved, the story was tightened up into something more enjoyable and less tedious.
That’s about as much as I really need to know. But I can totally understand the want to know more about how the game effectively works, given that we know it’s a departure from how previous campaigns have functioned, and change isn’t always a smooth ride.
That’s said, I wouldn’t say no to a couple of images from the July Demo, to see how things have changed.

Exactly. One of the big reasons I’m worried is because I think about the state the game was in a yr ago with the previous launch target; if they don’t have CoOp Campaign (a staple, no, a tent-pole of the franchise) what state was it in a yr ago that they thought they could launch? Its this as well as the real lack of footage or legit trailers that gives me the impressions this iteration of Halo may not be as good as I’m imagining it to be.
I mean, an open world Halo game sounds -Yoinking!- amazing to me, I love the lore, and Multiplayer isn’t my thing, so Campaign is the real meat-n-potatoes for me.
I just want Halo Infinite to be incredible, and some videos that I saw recently are making me nervous

sorry to burst your bubble but co-op is literally a feature only a small % of players even interact with or want.

Right, I’m not talking about or asking for spoilers, I just want the regular “hey look at this!” stuff that normally starts circulating around months before release. Since we see just short of 3 months away, I figured we’d be getting more info/trailers by now

My gf and I are sincerely wanting CoOp campaign so we can play thru it together. Just because (in your opinion) a “small % of players interact with” (it) is still a -Yoink–load of people when taking into account the sheer numbers of over-all players, especially with a concurrent PC launch
Look at Split-Screen, and how “a small portion of players” used it, but how big of a “thing” it was that Guardians didn’t have it. You know?

More like a tent peg as opposed to a tent pole.
But the impression I get is that Staten came in and encouraged the (semi) open world aspect of the Campaign… and then by expanding this scope they then broke the respawn mechanism for co-op. Friendly fire so to speak.
Campaign should be free until it includes all the features that have come with the core Halo experience for the past 20 years and seven “mainline” titles. Once that’s complete, I’ll gladly hand over $60.

Which honestly I’m ok with that as an explanation as it totally makes sense, I just wish if that is the true case they could explain it, as from my more-or-less outside perspective it looks like a forebearer of bad news. But your input seems completely possible

The difficult part for 343 is that the large % of players who don’t care about co-op being delayed is an even bigger -Yoink- load of people. It’s not a decision they would have made lightly.
There is a Xmas market to be served, sponsorship deals that can’t be missed again, and consoles to be sold.

Personally, idk about free but I totally see where you’re coming from.
I personally want to buy Halo Infinite on day-one, but I’m apprehensive to do so knowing what isn’t going to be there for probably about the first 6-9 months

No one expects you to hand over your hard earned until you feel it’s worth it.

Same here - fingers crossed it’s just gonna be a huge surprise
