I’m very confused if people allowed to play online.
Anyone who has a legit copy of Halo 4 right now can play online with no consequences. It’s only a few days until release, so people are slowing starting to get the game early.

I don’t have an official like, but the mods have been saying it’s okay. If it wasn’t, then they wouldn’t be telling people that.
