Legendary Slayer is progress, not quite there

Finally got around to testing out Legendary Slayer with my little brother and I’ve gotta say, it’s a solid step in the right direction. This is how Halo should be played! Map control, no crazy ordnance that over-randomizes the game, everyone on equal footing. Why longtime fans of the franchise are on any other playlist is baffling, but to each his own, I suppose. When I die in this playlist, it’s not a whole ton of BS like I find in the other playlists.

I will say these as notes for areas needing improvement:

  • Adjust starting loadouts to possibly include a precision weapon (depending on vote, as it was in Halo 3). Without it, the BRs on the map become a power weapon of their own. With it, we could be looking at a more even, and classic, balance to gameplay.

  • The Rockets on Haven need less ammo. As it stands, the Rocket Lawnchair has six shots, respawns every 3 minutes. Having weapons on the map to emphasize the need for map control is one thing (a great thing), having weapons on the map with ungodly amounts of ammo makes it an unbalanced advantage.

  • More options. If at all possible, this kind of gameplay needs to expand to accommodate more gametypes, which may mean implementing more playlists (Legendary Objective or BTB come to mind).

It’s progress, 343. It has significantly increased my interest in Halo 4 once again, and doesn’t seem to be as convoluted as the stock gametypes. Weapon re-balancing has also been a great improvement. While the gameplay of other types still frustrates me, Legendary Slayer plays in such a way that I’m still good at Halo. K/D is up in this list and it fits like an old glove.

Keep up the good work. You may just right this ship after all.

I don’t want precision rifle spawns, makes the game easier than need be, give us a magnum along with the AR

Just spawn with a magnum and a AR.
Map control? nope nope nope,I hate map control its trashy.

SPRINT! This playlist would be so much better without it.

And a Magnum secondary with no bloom, with a reduced rate of fire.

Hopefully 343i takes into consideration to have playlists in halo5 that replicate the old halo feel. No AA’s, no sprint, equipment as map pick ups, etc etc…

Should spawn with a single grenade… grenade spam is ridiculous.

I haven’t had to point this out since Reach, but the Magnum in Halo CE has bloom, it just wasn’t a visible expansion. The 2 and 3 magnums were nearly useless so don’t bring those up. Removing bloom would make the Magnum feel less like Halo instead of more like it.

Anyway, I don’t want to see BR starts because it would discourage picking up anything else but a power weapon. I’d rather see AR and Magnum starts Halo CE Slayer Pro style.

no map control? have you ever played halo other than halo 4? 90% of Halo is map control.

Magnum and AR starts would also be a good solution, I see y’all’s points about keeping out BR starts as a way to promote grabbing more weapons on the map, though I still think that providing both an AR/Mag start and a BR start could prove viable, giving voters a chance to decide on a per-game basis.

Put it into the Legendary Slayer Feedback thread in the War Games Feedback Forum so that 343 can take it into consideration.

But I do agree on the last two. Not so sure on the first one, except for maybe Shutout. Maybe more maps if I wasn’t playing mostly Haven, Shutout and Adrift. :frowning:

While you do have a valid point on the Magnum bloom, I have to say that the only reason why the Magnums in 2 and 3 were weak was because you could dual wield. When they were combined with the right weapon, they were deadly. Never underestimate the Magnums in Halo 2 and 3. :stuck_out_tongue:

But yeah, the Halo 4 Magnum without bloom would basically just be a BR.

IMO LS is perfect, with a ‘BR Slayer’ option being all that is missing. The only problem is the low population, as it takes me 3+ minutes to find a game.

Not true, map control only occurs when the team grabs all power weapons and spawn kills the other team giving them a miserable and unfair advantage. What also feeds it is the way the map is design. Some maps have that map control style but I don’t want it to return. It’s a horrible experience and should never return.

I love Legendary Slayer!
It feels so rewarding to pickup any weapon.
I get excited when I find anything other than an Assault Rifle.

As for the Magnum suggestion, there’s good reason on both ends of the debate.
I guess it’s whatever 343 chooses.
I’ll be happy either way.

However, one problem still remains.
Flinch.

Have you even played Halo before 2007?

Well, it’s the team’s own fault.
They couldn’t maintain proper control of the power weapons and thereby lost control of the map.
Welcome to Halo.

As it is, Legendary Slayer is quite a lot more entertaining than the rest of Halo 4 (except maybe Action Sack). The only things I’d change would be:

  1. Remove Sprint and increase movement speed
  2. Add Magnum secondary
  3. Rely entirely on Forged classic maps
  4. Replace flinch with descope
  5. Force games to start with even teams

If you think that to be true, would you oppose Legendary Slayer ending at 5 kills?

> Should spawn with a single grenade… grenade spam is ridiculous.

That isnt a bad idea

A precision weapon spawn would be nice, because just AR rushing all the time is no fun at all, but if you’re not going to do that at least give us a magnum spawn.
Even better, let us vote for AR/BR (or other precision weapon) spawn gametypes.

That is, without question, one of the funniest things I’ve read all day.
Thank you.
