343,
When I purchased Halo reach in 2010 I bought the legendary edition. I paid $150 to have legendary flames. You guys are making eternal flames flames available to anyone. What made flaming helmets special was that not everyone could have them and now everyone can have them. When halo reached falls on December 3rd, whoever purchased the legendary flames for $150 when the game first came out 10 years should ago SHOULD have them when Halo reached drops. The new progression system is giving away the phantom skull helmet (or whatever it’s called) and eternal flames. This new progression system is already going to ruin the nostalgia effect for me. Whoever paid for legendary flames should get them and no one else. why should someone deserve them for free when there’s gamers who paid a lot of money for that. Some may disagree with me but if people don’t have to work hard for what they earn in this game like bungie’s Halo reach, I’m going back to the 360 version.
At the end of the day it is just a cosmetic, just something to make your in-game Spartan look pretty. If you paid $150 for the flames alone and not for anything else that came with the Legendary Edition then you got mugged, I’m afraid to say.
Legendary flames were worth it. That’s the reason why I bought the legendary edition and I was far from mugged. To say that it’s just cosmetic is kind of baffling. What about back during halo 3 when it was every halo fans dream to have a flaming helmet or just to be in awe to see a bungie employee with it. Kids were even putting maps in their file share thinking they would get it. The flaming helmet is iconic. When Halo reach came out it was a dream and a moment I was waiting for. I finally had my chance to get it. The fact they are just giving out blue flames now ruins the magnificence.

Bungie originally gave the Eternal Flames out when they were departing from the Halo franchise. This is no different from that. And the flame chestplate is only available to players in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Even with the 343i takeover of the franchise, they never gave it to Halo 3 players like they did Recon. So something still remains unobtainable to players.
The statue is in my opinion why i bought the edition as well. I show it off every time i stream as its a great design piece and wonderful paint job.
But i feel your pain i do love how legendary “legendary flaming” has been over the years starting with Halo 2 MP - ODST. Reach was no exception either with the introduction of eternal for employees only it really gave it that significance and true glory of even being in the same game as them. I remember being in Evil Otto’s game once and sadly not even playing the game as intended because all i could do was follow him around in awe.
Now it seems like 343 has forgotten this notion and moved on to “everyone gets it” Which is cool and all but it kinda ruins its thunder now.
Also legendary flaming is also in the progression system that will be taking place on the 3rd when Reach is available on MCC. Literally every item and permutation that was previous available from Reach including those needed with a code will be obtainable.
Im sure at some point in the future with the option of Halo Infinite that we will be able to either get our expensive hands on or earn or EVEN see something more glorious then we could possibly imagine. Thanks to technological advancements too im sure. Like imagine diamond armor that only employees get. Or pure black armor for completing a list of vidmaster like achievements. Or even trails for your characters feet whenever you walk around. idk just some ideas that come from the top of my head whenever i think of potential exclusives.
I hear you though man im in the same boat. But trust the statue is cool and i hope you didnt give that away.
Don’t both regular and blue flames highlight the spartans head more making it easier for enimies to headshot you?
Like flashy unusuals in TF2 just highlight your head for the enemy sniper.
Cosmetic exclusivity is there to bait those with FOMO and make players who join late feel bad they didn’t get chance to unlock those cosmetics.
Its fine giving everyone the chance to unlock it through a new progression system as theres no petty exlusivity system.
You also get chance to re-unlock your legendary flames as Devs couldn’t move the old 360 level or armor unlock data over to PC.
You might see it as a double edged sword but not everyone does.
