So I’m a little confused, did Atriox time travel? Like when the Harbinger was talking at the end The Weapon said something like the signal’s very old, which if it is Atriox that could lead more into the idea of timetravel.
I’m not a massive reader of the books, and I mostly know the lore, but if time travel is the case I’ll actually be a little disappointed (since I’m not really a fan and it kinda complicates the established lore)
What do you guys think? I’m still deciding how i feel about the overall story. Lots of new questions that need answers.
Oh and btw Locke is actually dead his Helmet is on that brute boss, Hyperious it think how it’s spelt
I think the time is was shown to point out when the discussion took place and not in regards to Atriox, I could be wrong tho, time will tell.
I dont think (or atleast hope) the whole time controll/travel theme is more of a literalway and not something that is actually going to be manipulated. Its hard to explain what I mean by that.
Like the endless beeing able to see and feel time diffrently and thus may be knowing things that are going to happen and not them being some kind of time wizards (i mean if they where they wouldnt have been imprisoned in the first place)
Unsure about the signal though, could be from the past or an old source.
I want to add to the Chief skipping 3 days though. I dont think that was some time manipulation thing either, its just like a slipstream jump, in a matter of seconds you could arrive somewhere in a time in wich a person from the outside felt hours pass, time gets funky at such multidimensional stuff. That should also be able to apply to teleports.
Those are atleast my thoughts so far.
Yeah had the same thoughts on the 3 day skip, but we could be wrong there too. But you see I don’t understand how Cortana died from destroying part of the ring but Atriox didn’t, and everyone’s been believing he is dead. Like he sure wouldn’t fake it surely. So maybe he actually did get teleported through time. I guess time will tell hopefully it’s not another 6 years tho
I meeeean, it took them 6 years to make a story that still ended up being confusing for a lot of people, are you sure you want them to make a story in less time? LMAO
Did Atriox go back in time? Possibly, However, I thought it might be the conversation that was happening and not Atriox.
Though, There was the time skip. (Which I really don’t want time travel in Halo, like why)
……
I’m not to fond of then killing off Cortana either, especially an off screen death. It makes it meaningless, and just sad. I feel that Cortana storyline got Starwar Ep7-9(ed). Meaning that the story was all over the place and they just tried to fix past mistakes.
I understand that but that’s not good, that would just lead to another Halo 5 or even worse. The development apparently already was a hell for Infinite, pushing them even more forces them to put out bad things and I doubt that you wanna wait for something that ends up being bad. I don’t even wanna imagine how it would’ve been if they released it last year
Since they wanted to keep this alive for 10 years I’d think so too. ODST was a DLC and definetly not bad Imo so I’m open for it…as long as they don’t charge for every bit of story that was supposed to be in the game but got cut off because of time
People keep saying Cortana was killed off-screen. I don’t fully agree with that. She did “die” between the events of Halo 5 and Infinite, and we didn’t see it happen live, BUT she still persisted throughout the game, she got her goodbye moment with Chief, she was “reborn” into the Weapon (who may even take her name, or maybe a cool name like Phoenix), and we do see her death - she asks Atriox if he would live differently, he says no, so she blows them to hell. We see the light of the explosion in the hologram, and since she IS a hologram, I’m not sure how much better they could have shown her death. A chip cracking? Dunno. Cortana’s presence is felt throughout the game in whispers, echoes, and even her assistance in the final fight. I don’t consider her to be killed offscreen, not like Rookie or apparently Locke (although supposedly he isn’t dead?) who don’t even get an on-screen mention after their deaths.
I think there is 100% going to be time travel stuff. “This ring is different from the others”, Chief’s 3 day disappearance, “the Endless”… I think this ring manipulates time, and that is the only reason it could contain the Endless, who probably also do some stuff with time. The Harbinger is an “Endless” by my understanding, and those teleports may have been time manipulation. Or not. Really hard to say.
I think that when Cortana blew the ring, she sent Atriox wayyyy back in time. It’s possible neither of them are dead, but she - being basically one with the ring - was scattered, and he was sent way back.
Anyway, those are my current thoughts. I suspect that we are about to get a Destiny-style “always another worse evil”, considering they claimed the Ring had “worse things than the flood” (what could that be? End all life everywhere? Just like a worse Halo? Or maybe it can undo the existence of everything? Rewrite time? Hard to say).
Kind of a bummer, but ultimately if your bads aren’t getting worse, then they’re either
the same bad
a less bad bad
The former can only last for so long, and with the latter, it’s kind of a given that you’re going to win because you’ve been through worse. So the only way they can keep the story going is by raising the stakes, constantly, meaning that we’re in for probably a wild ride and probably killing gods and stuff eventually.
There is a third way of doing a new bad, which is to make it bad in a totally unseen way thus far. But I don’t know if I want to play a Halo game where Master Chief struggles to fit in with nobility or has to learn to fish. They could put him in unfamiliar situations, such as existing within the AI-verse, but what’s probably going to happen is the bads are going to get worse so he is constantly going to get better, because ultimately he has to win.
There are few stories that overcome this. “Logan” achieved it… by killing off Wolverine at the end. That’s basically the only way to end Chief’s story, keep introducing new bads, and not fall into the “power creep” trap.
Buuut, if that happens, fans will be in uproar, they’ll quit the game, etc. So we’re either going to see Chief die (or at least disappear) and the games continue without him, or we’re going to see him become a god. Time travel is basically the next step on that path… after, you know, stopping a religious army that almost wiped out humanity, destroying a virus that would have ended individual thought, destroying several facilities that would have ended sentient life, and now beating a big dude. But not the guy who beat him quite yet.
Sorry for the essay, got carried away.
Tl;dr: there is definitely going to be some time manipulation stuff.
This ending was massive. So many layers to break down, I chalked up the 3 day time passage to slip space and portal manipulation…though I have to say it also occurred to me that Halo 4 had portals yet, however, they seemed to instantly transition from one point to another so I’m not sure if these displace the user due to the fact that they aren’t stable generations…but then this calls into question Halo:CE and the teleport from the phase pulse generator to the Truth And Reconciliation.
A lot going on here, and I doubt it’ll be easy to figure out unless 343i or a future Halo novel come out.
This all being said, I sure hope it doesn’t take them nearly as long to make the next Halo story entry…as they said this game and engine would be a platform for them to quickly make content the next 10 years…
I wouldn’t stay the story was confusing. These are breadcrumbs and unanswered questions. We are meant to not fully understand what the end cutscene meant, but it will all make sense at some point in the future when they (hopefully) follow up on it.
It would be a shame for this to just become another dropped plot thread. Luckily I don’t think that will happen though, this campaign hasn’t garnered the general negative response Halo 4 and 5 did.
