Legacy controls finally caught up with me...

I’ve been using Legacy controls since Goldeneye, usually with Bumper Jumper. I’ve not seen it as a handicap until the advent of boosters in H4, and more importantly, H5.

The ability to dodge laterally is such a huge tactical advantage in numerous situations that it often turns the tide and makes the difference between survival and death. Whether it’s hurling yourself out of grenade range, dodging a charge, or throwing someone off their aim, this has become a huge part of the H5 gameplay fabric.

With legacy controls, I can’t perform this escapist manoeuvre.

Now I find I have a negative k/d ratio for the first time since H3. I could try and change my button preference, but I’m not a pro, and don’t have the patience or inclination to train myself over many hours and weeks.
Just wondered if anyone else found this to be a pivotal issue?

What is legacy controls?

I still use bumper jumper. I have since H3 and will probably never change. I have too much experience with them and a change would just hinder my performance

It’s a thumbstick layout that you can change in the settings.

If you’re having trouble, then you’re probably better off just changing your controls. Yeah, it may take a few days or a week to get used to it, but it will benefit you in the long run.

It seems every game (Halo, BF, COD, Banjo, etc) you have to change buttons depending on new abilities. If you have already gone negative, might as well change settings.

Could always play with a claw grip, or get real fast with your thumbs lol. I’ve been playing on bumper jumper and it has worked out pretty good.
