I can’t stand this map anymore, she’s boring in every gameplay. It’s too big for a 4v4 and an horrible labyrinth. Why invent map so bad when you can just use the past one, it would have been better.
Even in fiesta it’s horrible, because they made appear a lot of cool vehicle, but it’s a nighmare to dive them in thoses so little space
I can just about stomach it for Fiesta, but I find it absolutely abysmal for Slayer, One Flag and SWAT. Absolutely atrocious. It’s up there as one of my least favourite Halo maps of all time.
It would be pretty chaotic and fun for a larger number of players. I think 7v7 or 8v8 would be fun on Launch Site and Behemoth.
Behemoth is also a bad map. I didn’t mind it at launch, but the more I play it the more flaws I see in it.
All the other maps are great although I find Bazaar SWAT to also be poor.
I feel like people who hate on the launch pad (and behemoth as 2nd worst) are people who don’t handle vehicles really well.
I personally love both maps exactly for that - more open space and vehicles spawning around the map making those games much more interesting - and I’d love to have more maps and games like that - on bigger, more open maps with more vehicles.
The only issue (which was mentioned in an earlier topic about the launchpad) are invisible walls which can kill you if you fly a banshee and don’t know they’re there and can impede your wasp movement. You can’t fly over a building - there are invisible walls up there. And while enemy bullets and missiles can pass through them hitting you, you can’t move through them, and they actually register like hitting the ground (hence they can kill your banshee as it’s built of paper-mache apparently)
Having that said launchpad sucks in ranked and tactical slayer - the game modes made for people who suck at playing with vehicles.
I love the vehicles personally. But those maps still suck. I have gotten many kills in launch site with the banshee, wraith and scorpion but it still is a bad layout imo. Same for behemoth. Its fun to zip around in a ghost, hog, or banshee but still everything is either wide open or tightly packed with slopes and slants everywhere. Not a great layout either imo.
The vehicles are negated extremely easily on both maps. The reason people don’t like them is because the maps have terrible pacing, difficult to manage spawns and boring control points.
Launch Site and Behemoth aren’t even in ranked. Behemoth was but they removed it.
Yup, because it sucks without vehicles - the whole point of those maps is to have both open spaces for vehicles and to have some hiding places from them. Actually, it’s best for teamplay when 1-2 people man the vehicles and the rest can flush out the enemies from hiding places.
The map is fine. It is the vehicles that make Launch Site an annoying and unpleasant experience worthy of quitting before the match begins.
If the enemy gets 2 vehicles within 15 seconds, then you’re done. On the other hand, I have had just a few matches where almost no vehicles were used. These matches were fun because the relied much on positioning and strategy.
You see, that’s the problem - people either can’t use vehicles or can’t counter them. Or both. In fiesta, it’s really a non-issue as sooner or later you’ll get weapons to kill anything, Scorpion including. In any other mode, the vehicle spawns are more limited it seems. And you just need to learn some tricks to be able to kill any vehicle the game throws at you.
Plus, just like power weapons, vehicles are assets to be contested - if you allow your enemies to get too many too good vehicles, that might be on you. Just like in BTB if you allow your enemies to steal your wasp and use their own, if they have 2 vs 0 aircraft you’re in for a really tough fight. Unless you have someone really good at shooting them down.
And btw. the side in the landing pad that starts with fewer vehicles starts in the area with more concealment possible. You have to play the strengths of your terrain.
I am going to leave the match as soon as I know it has Launch Site as the map. As for BTB, I do not like that match type. I only play BTB if there is a challenge, such as this week’s Capstone.
Just say you get lost in the map and go Seriously. Half of the time complaints like this can be solved if you just make yourself a custom map and spend a half hour going around and learning the terrain. You won’t get lost, you’ll find new sniping hideouts, you’ll learn where weapons spawn, and figure out where the frick you’re getting shot from when you go to x y z spot.
I learned the layouts of the maps and stopped getting lost. Now I only hate maps because I routinely get my ash beat on them
Fair enough - I play tactical slayer only if I get a challenge, because I suck at it, hate it with passion, and don’t want to spoil everyone else’s fun.
Actually, I stopped doing this week’s challenges because of the tactical slayer challenge - a challenge to get a cumulative score of 7500 is moronic. Sure, a person good at it will do it in a few matches (I do so with fiesta and did with BTB score challenges when they were in), but for a person who sucks at it getting 2-15-0 each match it’s about 30-something matches worth of frustration and hating the game - no, thank you. And the current reward isn’t worth it for me to spend challenge swaps even if I had any (and I certainly won’t buy them for this purpose).
I don’t particularly like it but I think Behemoth is a worse overall map. The thing about Launch Site that matters is, it’s designed for one sided objectives. The game needs a couple of those kinds of maps because they create a fun dynamic.
I also like the weapon and power up layout more than behemoth. Each side gets tools to use for their respective goals, and an equal chance at the main power up towards the middle. Behemoth is symmetrical but at the same time it has a less fun layout and abysmal respawn points.
It’s awful for other gametypes I agree about that. It’s purely an asymmetrical one sided obj map
I like it but it feels large for 4v4 play. There’s some issues with it, but it’s not my favorite. Although, 1 flag is a fun type on this map. Gotta control the vehicles and power positions here. Otherwise, you’re in for one heck of a ride.
Not the best map, but I’d still rather play on Launch Site, than on Streets & Live Fire.
2 of the most boring and basic maps I’ve seen in a while. At least Launch Site has some elements & charasteristics to spice things up (Vehicles, Man Cannons, Fusion Coils, more Verticality)
I couldn’t care less about the competitve aspect.
Just like Behemoth the problem is spawning. In this case, weapons and vehicles. It feels like every weapon is on the map, and 1 team gets easy access to power-ups and snipers while the other gets vehicles and a rocket. Nothing spawns top mid, the equipment spawns are just in random spots. The map just feels like it just wanted to have everything on it.
I am lately of the opinion of whoever designed Launch Site as a map needs to be fired. The map is terribly imbalanced and way too big for 4v4. I have spent more time running around looking for people than anything else on that map.
If somebody is in a position where they make maps for the Halo series, they should know better than the atrocity that is this map.
