So I just beat Halo 4’s campaign. I played through it for the first time on Legendary. I must say, it was pretty damn cool. The visuals are spectacular, the sound is stupendous, and the gameplay is addicting (and frustrating at times).
Favorite things:
- Variety of environments
- The dynamic between Master Chief and Cortana
- The plot and levels really gave me a Halo 1 vibe. It seemed like a real tribute.
Least favorite things:
- Honestly I really miss the Flood
- Prometheans are much cooler to look at then to fight
- Screw the knights. They take FAR too much damage, are dead-accurate, and have super-fast recharging shields
- Crawlers scurry around and are surprisingly hard to headshot
- Watchers now haunt my nightmares. Who the HELL thought it was a good idea to let them revive knights?!
- Checkpoints were awful at times. Sometimes I could go 15-20 minutes without a checkpoint.
But now my biggest problem: The only reason I decided to play through on Legendary was to unlock the Legendary Visor. I wanted it sooooooo bad. Unfortunately, I was not aware that by beating the campaign offline, you screw yourself out of getting both the Mark VI armor and the Legendary Visor because you have to be online for the server to award you the armor.
…what?
Honestly this has me in a spitfire mood. I don’t have a wireless adapter, and my xbox is in my basement, where I do not have access to my router or modem. Now I have to play through the whole thing AGAIN to get my visor. Why does it have to be like this? Halo 3 let you unlock armor offline! Halo: Reach let you unlock armor offline!

Yeah. that blows.
EDIT: I have since replayed the campaign and gotten my Legendary visor. I am now happy (:
Anyway, enough of that. I know I’m incredibly late to the party here, but did anyone else really like the campaign? I give it a solid 8/10.
I really enjoyed it, I really don’t get what all the hate is about. It felt like a halo game to me and it played like one, sure there was the -Yoinks!- up on matchmaking but it still felt like Halo.
I thought it was a horrible game, All they had to do was introduce a decent enemy class and a cohesive story, perhaps treat cortana with a nanite of respect,yuck

What do you mean? I thought they handled Cortana’s rampancy pretty well.

I absolutely loved it. I just got done beating it on solo legendary difficulty again on the MCC today, those prometheans are quite the challenge and annoying as hell.

I suppose you’re right now that I think about it. I’ve seen a lot worse, though.

Congrats to you as well! Prometheans are definitely Halo’s most challenging adversaries.
Best Halo campaign in my opinion. Gave me some serious Halo CE and Halo 3 Vibes.
It is Halo evolved a bit. The hate is that it is different in a lot of ways and feels different. It is a great start and Halo 5 is getting a lot of hate but 343 is trying to adapt. The visuals are bright and it is a very pretty game which I love. I played all the way from combat evolved this week and after playing it all in the same week I liked Halo 4 a lot more this time around and it is still Halo and Halo 5 will be awesome too. Halo for life!
I actually didn’t mind the campaign. I thought the story was really engaging. It’s just that reading the books helps you understand the plot (particularly why the Didact sucks), a lot more. I read the books, so I don’t have a problem with this, but it’s not the best for people who haven’t. Still great though. The first time I played through, I hadn’t read any of the books and I still enjoyed it a tonne. One of my favourite halo campaigns.
Great campaign, terminals added some knowledge, and Cortana goin bat crazy was new.

I thought Legendary would be surprisingly easy for 5-7 minutes, and then I’d get stuck at a part and die/die/die/die because it was so hard to find a checkpoint. But years later, I too finished the legendary difficulty and got my Legendary Armor/Visor

That QTE in the first mission and some other little new things. After a while I just accepted them and enjoyed the game since.
