Last Spartan Standing sucks and I don't really want to play it, but the armor pieces require me to (and also it sometimes doesn't seem to track kills)

This may sound a little tin-foil hattish, but hear me out. The goal is to make money. Lots of money. The easiest way to make a lot of money, is to create a problem, then sell the solution to that problem.

Don’t like FFA Slayer? That’s okay, use a Challenge Swap to get rid of it. Don’t have any? We sell them exclusively in the shop (and you can earn them, but that’s a very finite supply). Frustrated by the lack of XP gain? Use a Double XP token. Don’t have any? Store. Frustrated by lack of progress in the Pass? Again. Store for levels.

That’s the issue with the current system, and why I believe that 343 is reluctant to change it - it’s not about getting people out of their comfort zone, it’s about pushing them to the shop so that a solution can be sold to a created problem. Season 1’s feedback was very clear - no more impossible challenges, no more challenges locked to specific game modes. They fulfilled the former, but did not fulfill the latter…

I’m inclined to agree. It’s pretty much a mini BR and I don’t play BRs. It does encourage camping and hiding BUT welcome to the BR genre. It does have potential, just it should have been a separate mode on its own imo and expanded upon.

I can see why some people probably like this mode, but I personally hate it. I don’t like FFA modes and it’s annoying that the only way to participate in the event is to play it. So far Season Two hasn’t made XP grinding any less of a chore. I actually sit here, dreading jumping into a match sometimes. This game feels more like work and that’s obviously a bad thing.

Is the rewards interesting? If not then I’m probably not gonna bother with it

There’s personal preference involved… I think the Weapon Coatings are ok at least, one of which you get early in the event pass ( Pistol ).

Personally, the only other thing going for me is the AI Color, which is the second item on the list. Which gives you a Yellow AI Assistant. Which currently I will be using for the time being.

LSS is a trash tier mode. If you don’t advance quickly enough you won’t be able to get kills, 343 needs to drop these stupid event challenges and just GIVE us these armors through the campaign instead. Each update hide armor pieces in the campaign, boom you’ve successfully made a reason to buy the campaign AND to play multiplayer.

The core unlocks on Tier 6 of the BP.

The event just has cosmetics for it.

They’d probably move it to the shop and you can buy those cosmetics before they’d consider moving it to campaign.

It’s growing on me a bit. Definitely not a mode I’d play outside of the event though.

I’d literally rather outright buy it than play these garbage tier event challenges.

To some extent I think the community needs to harden the -yoink- up.

It’s a game mode. One in a much larger sandbox (ok, largish, but getting there). If you don’t like the mode - don’t do it.

If there is something on that list of rewards that you really, REALLY, want. Then you still have a choice.

And as for the challenges… I thought the issue was more for when you couldn’t guarantee the game-type. eg. getting an Oddball challenge in Quick Play or Ranked.
But if it’s a guaranteed match between the challenge and the playlist - then I don’t really see the problem.

I’m sure, at some stage, you will be rewarded for your patience.

Last Spartan Standing is just an “okay” first try at this gametype. There’s a few problems.

  1. Weapon balancing makes the upgrade path feel underwhelming. I think this mode would shine much better if they added in weapons that aren’t part of the core sandbox (upgrade from Sidekick to the Magnum, for example)
  2. Lack of grenades on spawn makes it more difficult to outplay an enemy if they get the jump on you
  3. Lack of radar exacerbates issue 2
  4. The map seems cool, but I’m not digging it because it absolutely doesn’t seem designed with this gametype in mind.

But hey, it’s an okay first step IMO. Take these elements and give them to the community to play around with in customs, and see what kind of fun stuff comes out of it.

I actually enjoy it more with the lack of radar actually. You can get around it if your a good listener at least, as finding people via noises and footsteps will help a ton when it comes to locating enemies.

The only thing that really off sets this is active camo making footsteps ( when walking ) silent.

It would be cool if everyone started with a sidekick and new weapons were picked on the map like other game modes.

Yes I do this all the time in ranked/swat. But this is a non-ranked/non-swat FFA on a brand new map that no one is familiar with. No radar coupled with no grenade spawns makes encounters absolutely annoying. At least in ranked/swat you can rely on ally positions to figure out where enemies could come from with no radar. This is FFA. It’s literally the worst type of game mode to have no radar in.

I think I’m misunderstanding. You just described regular FFA, minus the AR and radar.

Yea it would be similar to regular FFA, but it would also be on a larger map with more players. That’s kind of what I was expecting. If i were 343 the only changes i would make would be to have sidekick starts, reduce the lives, make weapons spawn in certain parts of the map at set times, and close or move the zone quickly to stop camping.

It’s not fun being forced to do stuff you don’t want to do because not doing it means nothing will move.

Last Spartan Standing is not fun, it’s just being shot in the back due to the open map. Then when somebody gets to rifles, everybody else is boned. Even then, it highlights the bad weapon balance.

I was final two and on the Commando, the other guy had a BR. Guess who won? At almost every distance, the BR will beat the Commando. There was nothing I could do but hope the bulldog would work at close range. Yet despite shooting him first, we traded melee kills and he won due to hit reg being weird.

Nothing in this experience is fun. Yet here I am, forcing myself to do it rather than play KOTH and BTB…sigh

I’m still mad that they haven’t separated event challenges from weekly challenges. They know it has an adverse impact on the way people interact with the game, aka “playing the way the developers want you to”, but it’s still here.
