The new game mode is a cool concept, but it’s incredibly bad in practice(at least in FFA). Every engagement is getting shot in the back after or during another fight . Spawns are really bad, the “Level Up” mechanic feels miserable. The gruesomely slow pick-up action of the bonus exp. seems pretty moot. Why is that so slow but picking up OS/Camo not nearly the risk for so much more reward?
People are getting to the end of the game by just camping one spot and third partying their nearby spawners so they can have bulldog/BR by the end against some jabroni who was actually playing the game. Not to mention they’ll have OS/Camo waiting to go for the 1v1 to end it.
There’s just no fun factor to it. And it makes me lament any upcoming battle royal modes because it’s going to be really really disappointing if this is an early showcase of what to expect.

I’ve been playing super aggressive and won about 75% of my games so far just going all out attack. Getting 10+ kills a game.
Wouldn’t say campers are getting the benefit as I always have BR/Shotgun, 4x nades (dynamo) and power up plus a life or two to spare.
Welcome to FFA in Halo, at least from my limited experience with it. You get shot in the back alot

lovely. that addresses literally none of my complaints though.

Just played it, only once encounter an enemy without being completely decimated from behind. It’s not as fun as it sounds.

Well, i am with my friend who now played 2 matches of LSS.
First match he ended 3rd with negative k/4 (4-6), while the best player (in k/d, only one with double digit kills) ended somewhere in the middle. The players above him where 5-6 and 5-2, so they also avoided combat as much as possible.
The 2nd match he ended 2nd also with avoiding combat as much as possible and getting some sneak kills. He went 5-6, the winner won with 6-2, but getting almost all his kills in the end (with just 4 players left he was only 2-0). The player with the most kills again ended somewhere in the middle.
This mode clearly promotes camping.

Honestly Camo I can work with but having some d-canoe just sprint around a corner a pop an overshield, lose those shield because 3 of us started on him then pop out when the last guy was alive after we went after each with another overshield. They need to seriously either remove overshields or stop making them so darn frequent
yeah the OS by far my biggest pain in this mode
not to mention that YOU CAN"T PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS… All this new crap, and we can’t play it together

Off the bat:
Breaker is way too big for FFA Escalation Slayer.

My only grip so far is if i run out of lives, im stuck warching and i cant play anything and i dont like that. If i cant respawn anymore, i want to leave the game and start searching for a new one.
Its already maling me unlikely to stick with this gamemode as a result. Unless im missing something
This really drives home why a Halo BR would not be fun. This mode is the opposite of fun and having an event tied to it is going to be as miserable as the Fiesta one.
Once somebody steals a few kills where they get rifles, you’re screwed if you’re still on pistols/manglers or even the AR. The balance is waaaay off.
You can leave after you are dead, but you won’t update the challenge progress until you next “normally finish a game”
So your progression didn’t disappear, it’s just not updated. Kinda shows that their UI needs a major overhaul but we’ll see.
Yeah that’s what I was on about with the Level Up stuff. Sidekick/Disruptor → Mangler/Disruptor → Mangler/AR → AR/Commando. That is such a bad combination of weapons for 4 levels lol
Imo the whole “ability to keep a swap and choose when to level up” just goes against the entire idea of Gungame/Escalation Slayer.
Escalation Slayer is all about starting strong and getting weaker so it’s harder to get kills, meaning a guy who took many cheap kills early will eventually taper off and get outskilled by someone.
LSS is just weird in general. I think it may be fine as a 4v4 or BTB setting though.
If it doest update then it basically doesnt count. If this is how the gamemode plays, i just wont play it but i jave to fir the challenges so its kinda annoying
Update on this one, my friend continued to better his rank (1st match he was 3rd, 2nd match he was 2nd) and won now… Just because the best player (who now wasn’t in the middle, but ended 2nd) just gave up and killed himself after he was already 14-5 and my friend just 3-4…
Imagine not once going positive, but ending in the top-3 all the time… This mode is just not thought through…
No you are mistaken, it indeed tracks your progress, it’s just not reflected until you end a match normally. Just play a QP or BTB or some other mode you need in your weekly, it should update the progress then.

Oooooooh. Olay i think i can live woth that somewhat but they should just modify it where you have the option to leave and track it when you’re done.
For my first impressions, I can see why LSS would be fun. I do hate FFA because of how chaotic it is and how I’ll often get shot in the back or just finished off by one rando just happening to have the lucky spawn/coincidence to walk in on me after my battle with another player, but the larger map does mitigate quite a bit. Having your fight with other players getting interfered with and dying to someone who picks you or your target off still happens but not as much.
The Level Up/Weapon Upgrades is a nice touch although Halo’s limited weapon pool kind of makes it “meh”.
However, this mode just isn’t for me, mainly cause of how the go-to strategy to gain victory does seem to favor hiding and camping. While the initial start-up is fun, when you go further into the match and see a number of players just camping…it stops being fun pretty quick. This isn’t how I like playing Halo and while I will say that aggressive players may still be able to obtain victory, I think it can be agreed that camping is the least risky, more favored method by those who want to win once they get their Commandos and other ranged weaponry.
If this is meant to be an early indicator of how people may feel about an actual Battle Royale later on…its not looking good for me. I’ll play Last Spartan Standing for the Event Challenges but after that I’ll probably never want to touch it again unless I’m forced to.
