I think I found a bug with Spartan Laser tracking on Halo Waypoint… There’s no way I shot the laser 5,000 + times…
DESCRIPTION:
Spartan Laser shots fired show more than what actually was fired. It seems that it is logging a shot fired every time you pull the R trigger.
STR:
GOTO HaloWaypoint
Select Halo 5 Guardians under Service Record
Select View More Arena stats
Select View All Weapons
Observe Spartan Laster shot accuracy at a all time low
ACTUAL:
Every time a Spartan presses the R trigger, it logs a shot fired whether or not they held it down to complete the shot.
EXPECTED:
Should only count as a shot if they laser actually spurts onto the battlefield.
Both the Spartan Laser and Binary Rifle fire a large number of shots in such quick succession that the weapon appears to fire a single shot. You can see this if you aim at a wall and rotate your shot left or right. Instead of seeing a single line in the path of your shot you will see multiple individual shot marks on the wall. In accounting for the number of shots fired from these weapons I believe they count each individual portion of the sustained shot as a shot fired.
The behavior that you described with the Spartan Laser registering a shot fired with each pull of the trigger regardless of whether or not the trigger was held down long enough for the weapon to fire could be accounted for by the description of the Legendary Mythic weapon Selene’s Lance:
> Built from components fresh from the labs in Seongnam. Advanced Spartan Laser with reduced charge time, longer beam duration, additional battery capacity, and targeting laser does damage. War Games balancing adds extra recoil.
The targeting laser of this weapon does damage which would have to be accounted for as a shot fired and, like the actual beam that is fired from a Spartan Laser, is composed of individual shots fired in rapid succession. Because the shots fired from a normal Spartan Laser are not tracked separately from the Selene’s Lance, they would need to track shots fired from the targeting laser of a normal Spartan Laser even if the targeting laser of that weapon does no damage.
I can’t confirm any of this as I don’t work for 343 but from the high number of shots that are tracked on both the Spartan Laser and the Binary Rifle I believe this is how it works on their stats backend.
