Land Grab isn't fun

I call it Landfill. I’m not sure if this is too cryptic or not. It describes my feelings on Strongholds with periodic changing of the zones, so to speak.

Sorry your last post was 7 years ago, but I can see why the hiatus happened.

I’m sorry, but getting blown up by rockets and getting sent to the spawn screen and being effectively removed from that round really is engaging gameplay. I love not being able to do anything for my team. I really love Markets as a map, but it is clearly not designed for strongholds and land grab as opposed to CTF and Slayer, especially when the power weapons are on the way for taking the contested point B.

yeah that map sucks.

Yeah, I dread having to do Land Grab for the next 3 events just to complete the event pass. Even Last Spartan Standing is more fun than Land Grab.

My experience with Land Grab is that it’s basically like Ranked strongholds, where SBMM is seemingly nonexistent and everyone is always spamming grenades at a zone.

Its definitely pretty boring since both teams get a free point each round and youre forced to sit there doing nothing to get the free point each round if you want to win.

I had one really close game last night where it was tied 10-10 in which case only the B point spawns for the last round. It actually felt nice having all 4 players on both team going after the point. I guess thats why king of the hill is funner

I feel like this gamemode would’ve been better if it was a single point you were fighting for. I appreciate them experimenting, but. Just, do King of the Hill, or Strongholds.

I’ve personally been enjoying it a lot. I like the pacing and how quickly the score can change even late in the game if the losing team can coordinate to sweep a few rotations.

Nade spam is real, but kinda a given here as in other zone control modes. I see it as something you can’t avoid when occupying a zone but can’t afford to ignore as a tactic when trying to seize one. Keeps things very lively!

Vehicles on Behemoth detract from rather than enhancing the experience, and I’ve had some matches that are terribly un-fun on account of poor team coordination leading to complete blowouts of 11-1 or 11-2. Not fun to play on either side of a game that lopsided, IMO. But more often than not, I’ve had very tight matches that have been an absolute blast.

It’s certainly not a mode that feels competitively balanced, but as a social playlist that delivers a very engaging pace and really rewards team cohesion, I think they nailed it.

I’ve found this is one of the reasons team coordination is really integral to fun and success in this mode. There’s really only one guaranteed “gimme” zone for each team at the beginning of the match in my experience, and while it’s important to seize that zone, it’s probably even more important to make an attempt for the one in no man’s land to achieve an early game lead.

I’ve had a lot of matches where the team I’m on plays very synergistically- usually, one of us will stay back at first to capture the gimme zone while the others push for the middle zone which will be more hotly contested. From there, it’s just about weighing risk/reward and keeping an eye on what your teammates are up to in order to make great plays.

Truthfully, this mode has provided some of the most fun I’ve had playing team objectives in Infinite, period. But that’s admittedly a double edged sword, because it’s terribly unenjoyable when your team doesn’t click.

Grenade Spam isn’t fun. Having a bunch of grenades thrown at you when you’re contesting a point with no reasonable method of defense on that point results in a situation where frantic direct confrontations just don’t happen. KOTH and I imagine Land Grab have the same issue in Infinite - there is absolutely zero downside to throwing all of the grenades you have on hand at your enemies, because your teammates take zero damage from your grenades.

This has resulted in these game modes being dominated by people just spamming all four grenades and the mode itself not being fun as a result. You can’t really call someone bad at the game when there’s no reasonable defense against getting spammed with 8 grenades flying onto the zone from every direction.

I’ve been away for a few days and played LG for the first time last night.

Seems like a lot of fun.

But it does need some co-ordination by your team. Probably more than any other game. I can see why some Solo players may find it frustrating.

Rats. I missed my chance to monopolize the forums with posts about how SBMM stinks without you to reply and shut me down.

As for Land Grab, I thought it was good when I first started playing but the more I have played, the less I like it. Teammates just do dumb things that aren’t helpful and it quickly becomes obvious that it isn’t worth playing to win.

I had my trusty laptop with me, just in case.

I had to give you a “missed the point”, because there was no “missed the opportunity” one :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah I take back what I said about this gamemode, I’m not enjoying it.

I’m getting Slayer addicts on my team not going for the Zones & to top of I agree with now, this gamemode just proves on why the Grenades need tweaking, past Halo it was timing your Grenade well now it’s just spam & forget

Yeeaaaahhhh… Got my week’s play of this mode done and… man. I’m really glad I will ONLY have to do this two more weeks out of six months because BOY HOWDY, I HATE IT.

But why do you play this game mode if you dont like it? I like this mode very much and enjoyed the event.

But LSS on the other hand, i tried only 1 match, quit it early and didnt touch LSS again. Yes, im missed all event rewards of LSS. But there is nothing worth enough, that would me let play 1 match of LSS.

Large in part because I’m obsessive about my armor. I very much want to explore the various armor types and their customization. Believe you me, I am not terribly happy about the fact that the color scheme I want is something I’ll get on Week 3, but oh well.

More fun than LSS for me. At least, there’s some form of teamwork involved (usually!)

It’s not bad I actually think it should be more than 11 to win
