LAN could of been in Halo 5?

So I’ve always wonder why LAN was taken out of Halo 5. 343I said it was more of a MS thing and they couldn’t do it. They haven’t gone into any more details about it really. Well according to Rod Fergusson, studio head of developer The Coalition (Gears series) in this article http://www.gamespot.com/articles/gears-of-war-4-could-have-lan-support/1100-6428240/ It is possible to do. I recommend you read it, it isn’t long. Gears of War: The Ultimate edition is shipping with LAN! The first Xbox one game to do so.

It isn’t that hard to do according to him, MS just needs to give “permission” per say. If this is all it takes then I’d love to know why 343I didn’t do this!! Especially how they are really pushing the whole esports and such. Everyone knows LAN is used in high level play. I agree with Rod (were on a first name basis now lol) that LAN is important to competitive people, having tournaments and so forth. It’s also important to us non competitive people too I might add!!

If 343I/MS are really serious about esports and it seem like they are in Halo 5, why didn’t they do this?!?!? Are they not in touch with what is going on or what?? Makes no sense to me. Maybe LAN support will come to Halo 5 later in an update, I don’t know (doubt it) but 343I/MS dropped the ball here I feel.

If this isn’t add for Halo 5, it better be in Halo 6!!

Bring back LAN!!!

Credit goes to Willko for showing me this article, thanks man

Well, we are talking about the same devs that removed split screen from a squad based shooter. That doesn’t make sense either.

YAY! I was useful, lol

Splitscreen removal, I understand. Lan removal, I don’t understand.

Though I have only played on a LAN a handful of times, the exclusion of it is an odd choice especially with this whole eSports craze around the game. Since I don’t know much about what is going on with 343 and MS on the matter, I can’t really comment on the real reason for leaving it out.

FYI this is somewhat a general rant, not at you in particular, but it always comes back to splitscreen. I mean i know people are angry, and I am too I loved splitscreen, but its like people try to go and convert every thread to a splitscreen thread. What version are you getting? The one with splitscreen. You exited for forge? It’d be better with splitscreen. What skulls do you want added? A splitscreen skull. Theres a reason they have the official thread. And yes I love splitscreen too.
Sorry for the rant, back to OP, you kind of answered your own question. There has to be a good reason gears of war is the ONLY LAN game (according to you). Maybe something about the game is lesd intensive? Alot of games use online servers to handle huge physics. If it needs the internet to handle multiplayer physics that might be why. Gears had very few calculations in comparison to halo.

By that statement, there was no reason to omit LAN play from MCC. every game in that collection ran LAN games in their original forms without online servers helping in the calculations, yet there is no offline LAN play.

It makes perfect sense when you stop ignoring that they shipped a broken product and had to place six months of (more than likely) planned to be halo 5 resources on that.

well, that… OR they could have followed what Dice did after Battlefield 4 had major launch issues. Dice haulted production on their next Battlefield game until the issues with their current game were fixed. This resulted in a delay in the launch of Battlefield Hardline, which came out in March, I think. It resulted in 2 working games, and it gained them respect as well as future sales. I ended up buying both games because they functioned well after Dice showed a focus on quality and customer appreciation.

“could of”

cringe

LAN was in no way removed because they “couldn’t do it”. Doesn’t matter what they said. It was a deliberate choice to not include the feature.

THAT is what 343i chose to do. This community gave them no reason to halt halo 5’s production as it was wayy too supportive of a broken game, and 343 was wayy too surreptitious in its proclaiming that the mcc was working when it was not. I.E, only giving away odst to those who played before december even though the game was still highly flawed in march. They have gotten pr down to a science because people on here just ignore all of that.

I will say that i like the direction of halo 5 and, unlike those who are mad, understand the reasons for these missing pieces.

They said it had to have a dedicated server. More than likely the game doesn’t have the ability to ‘host’ anything but the one player who is playing on it, so they can’t make a ‘lan’ style system.

…you don’t seem to know what dedicated servers or LAN is.

Were you on the forums when MCC launched? Nobody was supportive of that broken game.

Dedicated servers: A dedicated server is a single computer in a network reserved for serving the needs of the network. For example, some networks require that one computer be set aside to manage communications between all the other computers.
L.A.N.: Local Area Network is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as a residence, school, laboratory, or office building.

Now, I’m fairly certain one of those particular Xbox Ones would have to be the ‘host’, seeing as how they won’t even let you do split screen, how exactly would you think that the Xbox One could also simultaneously ‘host’ 15-23 other Xboxes as well? (I said 23 to include Warzone)

That’s clearly why there were tons of arguments about 343 defenders…

I think H5 has it’s own plan for eSports connections that involve local dedicated serverboxes. I’d love LAN to be included but it’s not needed for my setup. Even if I have friends over to play H5 we’ll probably be playing online after playing a few customs. And currently connecting up your Xbox one’s to the router will establish a local connection (still have to be online and have Gold to see each other and on the friends list as usual etc). I assume it will work the same way it does on the MCC. Had a ‘LAN’ the other day on the MCC.

…and now I’m sure you don’t.

You can have ~255 connections on the lowest capacity network protocols. Over 16,000 on others. I don’t think 23 is a problem. There is no “cannot” in the reasoning for no LAN. It came down to 343 most likely just decided they didn’t care enough to put the work into making the game able to LAN.

Yeah, I’d like to hear that meeting:

Frank O’Conner: Hey, lets get rid of lan and splitsceen because reasons.

Josh Holmes: Yeah -Yoink- those guys!

bsangel: Do I even work here anymore?

And that’s how game developing works… But really, you don’t actually think that 343i did this to because they wanted to, do you?
