Lag

I just want to make sure if the lag is just me or if others are having Halo 5 matches absolutely ruined.
It all started yesterday. Literally. I jumped into a match and basically every 10 seconds everything stops and I’m basically dead.
I’m in America and my ping is pretty bad for America. Fluctuating in the 60 ms range. Then the MTU is like 1480 or something. Is that good? Don’t get me started on how terrible the download and upload are. They aren’t even in double mb/s. Most of the time kb/s. It took 7 hours to download both Halo Wars games. Upload is still a bit better than download, I think. Packet loss is very low, 1-2%.
My internet went from like 60 mb/s to hardly even double digit mb/s.
My internet actually got worse over time after switching, and probably will keep getting worse but nobody ever listens to me and nobody does anything about it. Wouldn’t surprise me that if it’s just me, the lag will make any game utterly unplayable.

You should get a better internet connection bro.

Wow, really? I couldn’t tell. It’s not like that’s what I’ve been saying but my family is stupid enough to sign a two year contract. Even though I probably know more about the internet than they do. This effects me more than it does them, why do I get zero say in literally anything that might effect me? I’m not stupid enough to switch to AT&T, but my family is.

It’s your internet bro although halo 5 doesn’t have the best servers anyway with my good connection I tend to get laggy games also it may be a combination of both

i have 100/DL - 10/UP and starting yesterday for the first time in my halo 5 experience that i can remember i started getting laggy games. its the servers.

Lag will ALWAYS be an issue. If you can’t adapt or build a tolerance for it, you probably shouldn’t be playing. I’m not trying to attack you or discourage you from gaming, I’m just saying that there will always be lag issues. The best thing to do is just get used to it

Who pays the bills?

Then, get a job and move to your own apartment, and get the internet you deserve/want?

Okay fair point, but would you rather have cheap terrible internet, or good internet that’s more expensive?

I get that. I used to have lag spikes here and there a few years back, but when it’s basically every 10 seconds of a match, it gets real annoying real quick.
Anyway, it probably was a combo of the internet and the servers, as today it seems to be fine.

When you start seeing packet loss thats when you know you have trouble more on your end. One of the best things you can do yourself is power cycle your modem and router. That is done by unplugging it for a bit and powering it all back up. Once you have done this also make sure your NAT type is set to Open. When you go into your network settings on your xbox do a test and see what you get. If you are still having issues then your next step would be is to ensure UPnP is enabled in your router. If you continue to have issues that’s when you need to call your ISP. Regardless of speed your packet loss should be at zero unless you are using WIFI and have a bad connection between your xbox and router… One doesn’t need a lot of bandwidth to play the game. That is only more critical when downloading large content and or hosting a game from your location. Which neither your doing at the moment… Good luck!

The lag is not really a thing anymore. Probably the servers.

Reset your equipment.

I’d rather have good internet that is more expensive but I am playing xbox in my house or using my wifi many hours through the day as does my wife. If another family doesn’t use wifi that much or doesn’t see it as a huge necessity I can see why maybe your family decided to get cheaper internet. My point is once you pay the bills for the house then you can choose for yourself which internet provider you want to use.

Story of my early Halo 5 life.

Yeah, probably just a bad day and a bad combination of contributing factors. I’m glad you’re not having issues today

Guess again. That was yesterday.

Not anymore. Probably a few off days.

One thing I like to do is putting my phone and laptop into airplane mode so that my network doesn’t suffer as much. It’s actually a decent habit to get into.
