As an aussie who has played online since Halo 2, I am very happy with the amount of lag I get when I play. 343 seem to have done a great job with the network programming.
However, there is the odd game (maybe 1 in 20) where it is completely unplayable. I am posting this to figure out whether or not it is just me, or is it all players who get this kind of lag? You can normally tell these games are coming when you vote for the map pre-game. If it takes ages for your vote to go through, then it’s usually a bad sign. Once the game starts, and you start running to wherever you want to go, the game will teleport you back and forward and everywhere else in your general vicinity. It’s not a minor nuisance like it was in H2 and H3, where you could adapt to it. It is gamebreaking. When I check the scores and look at the connections, everybody is red barring, yet some people seem to be able to play perfectly well. The host never changes either.
So when these games come around, I have no choice but to quit. Does anybody else get these kind of games? I don;t want this to come across as a standard whingeing thread because I honestly think that Halo 4 is the least laggy Halo title to date, in general.
Hey there OP just to let you know it’s not just you.
I live in America and one every I’d say 15 games I get lag so bad me and my team don’t even spawn so we just have to leave the game.Luckily every other game I get is pretty much lag free so I’ll take rare off game for how great the rest are.

I don’t see why it would make a difference for you unless it was an aussie host.

Get a lot of those. The worst is some New Zealander. Bad connection+attitude problem
I’m in the UK, but for some reason I often get a better connection when I connect to American players than other European players. For example, whenever I play with Italian or French players, it’s a fair bet that my shots will not register properly. I don’t understand how the game can perform better with people further away from me, than closer to me.
