today was the most ridiculous day in halo history. every game i got matched into had an absurd amount of lag, normally i search with good connection/ my language to ovoid lag but today it did not make a differance at all. every game i played had foriegn kids who seed off my connection (i have a 35mbs connection). i dont understand why i get into games with kids from mexico, colombia, new zealand, australia, and the netherlands, all the time, and they can do these amazing things like 4 shot me everytime, spinning no scopes, and 20ft sword lunges/beat downs when im stuck drilling them with 6+ headshots just to kill them. halo is one of the best games ever but if your a competitive player it is just plain unfair if you get a foreign host, halo is really slacking in the mm department. and halo 4 is almost guaranteed to be a laggy failure, 343 is spending all this time and effort on making it more like call of duty/battlefield/gears of war, they should mabey take some time and upgrade there servers or get dedicated ones to eliminate lag like all of the other new games that are out, a perfect example is i have 2 friends from mexico on my fl that i play with all the time and they usually are extremly well balanced players who go waaaay positive every game… if i 1v1’d them on xbl it would be a verry close game, recently they came denver to visit family and we met up and played lan and i almost 25-0 them every time, i dont know why there is an option to search my language if its just going to match me up with people from other country’s with >2mbs that dont speak a word of english… its just plain stupid, and lazy, so i hope that 343 reads this and mabey suggest better servers(instead of there servers powered by hampsters) and make halo 4 half enjoyable, i should not be punished for having a good connection, #end rant
good internet connection does not guarantee being host, you must “ping” back first.
With foreign players not everyone is going to be happy. Either way someone is stuck against a foreign host.
You have no knowledge of how Halo 4 will work so that an unfair assumption on your part.
I know, it’s very frustrating, OP.
The 4sk Dmr happens to me all the time
But the worst part is definitely your grenades not leaving your hand…
I wish Halo games were more popular out of US; maybe servers would be a better option then.
Lag is a problem, but one you have to cope with. It’s the players that still manage to win off host, against all odds that prove themselves good players. So until you clam up, realize that some of the problem is your skill/timing/whatever, and learn to play against host advantages, you will never get better.
Also, if your Mexican friends can almost tie you over a fairly clean, not-quite-so laggy game, it is extremely unfair to say you would beat them 25-0 on LAN. Way to badger your “friends’” skill bud. Can’t you acknowledge that they too spend time learning this game, and not playing versus you on (to them) YOUR laggy connection, that they might actually have some talent as well?
While I’m not going to challenge you to play, I am going to tell you that you are downright wrong. Sure, it’s annoying, and sometimes it’s downright stupid laggy, which causes a few extra kills/deaths, and maybe a loss. But stop going on Waypoint to rant. No one cares.
hopefully halo 4 will be like battlefield 3 in this subject
in BF3 you can search for servers in regions of your choice
maybe they could add that to matchmaking
As long as Halo uses antiquated peer to peer hosting then lag will ALWAYS be there. Support dedicated servers if you don’t want lag.

i agree with most of what your saying, most of the time i can win off host but it still poses an unfair advantage, its like a damage/accuracy boost for the foreign host which in turn makes them feel like great players, and with my friends from mexico it wasnt an assumption, if you re read my post i said they DID come to denver and we DID play LAN and i DID poop on them and almost 25-0 them each time when on xbl they have an amazing host/gameplay, what i am trying to say is that when you play on LAN there is no lag. and your shots hit more, its basically like every1 in the game has a host, my point is that my friends who normally play off of rediculous 4shot foreign host and usually do really well went from there god host to a zero lag game and couldnt do anything because they just expected to kill me in 4 shots everytime and have miracle nades, just saying that its a little bit rediculous that a foreign host plays better than lan for them
Sometimes there is a glitch here or there, nothing is perfect. Although glitches don’t improve my level of enjoyment I understand it is hard, software wise, to make it perfect.
My point of view is that I’m a paying customer and I don’t like lag when it is so bad that the players are jumping around at random for long periods of time or when lag returns to a game that has had multiple instances of lag.
I play from 2 locations, one has a 20Mbit connection and the other has a 60Mbit connection and I’m paying for that; meaning, I’ve done all I could from my side to make it a pleasant experience. My NAT is open in both locations although that isn’t supposed to affect gameplay.
When a game goes laggy, I play on for awhile, hoping it will get better and sometimes it does. But I’m entitled to quit the game if there is so much lag that makes the gameplay completely random and unenjoyable and so, sometimes I do.
Fact is everyone is going to lag at some point, but just because one person does does not mean that it is a problem.
As a chinese I always get stuck with foreign hosts.
Not like it makes the game harder; I still end up at the top of the leaderboards.
