Lag fest

So I’ve encountering this problem too many times recently, I know there’s a threat to talk about this but instead of complaining about how crappy the servers are, I’d like to know your opinion on my internet connection because that might be the reason why I’m getting so many laggy matches.

I have 6 mbps of download ( I know is too low but I’m a college student and I pay this by myself so I can’t afford really more than that)

So, Internet experts, is that too low to play the game? When the game initially started my games where fine, I don’t know why I’m getting such a crappy connection lately. Any ideas?

I’m no expert but I used to have bad connection due to my distance from my internet router, try moving your console into the room which it is located in, vice versa. The alternative problem could be lots of people using the internet at once and near the ends of months, internet tends to get slower as it runs out of available data (i.e you are using your internet alot).
Hope this helps.

A few questions first. Are playing on wireless or wired, do a speed test to confirm you getting the speeds you are paying for, what type of internet do you have (dsl, cable, satellite), is there anyone else using the connection?

Wireless. Satellite, and no. I live by myself and my dog, and well before I posted this I did the test speed and it said I was getting what I’m playing for, but other than that, I can’t be sure

I just did that, I usually play wireless so I tap my xbox to the lan cable and I have lag again. Curiously tho, as soon as I connect the Xbox it disconnect from the Internet by itself. Bad luck for me I guess

6mb is fine, you don’t need a lot of bandwidth for gaming. The only time it’s a problem is if your network is congested. So make sure that no other devices are downloading/uploading, turn off any bittorrent programs, and turn off the wifi on any devices that are connected and you’re not using. Such as mobile phones, laptops etc.

Power cycle the router. Do a speed test and it’ll tell your ping. A high ping is what will be causing you lag. You can also check on the network settings on your Xbox, but it’ll be much higher as it seems to ping a server in the US. Still worth running a test though, go to network settings, and detailed network statistics. It’ll tell you your upload and download speed, so if it’s much lower than it should be then that could be a problem.

Make sure you’re not broadcasting on the Xbox too, you don’t have the connection to support it as it takes up a fair amount of bandwidth. And as others have said, best to use a wired connection.

Who is your ISP and what is the model of your router? Might be worth looking into them more and see if there’s any problems reported with either.
