Does anyone else feel like the game punishes those with solid internet connections? I know the game runs on dedicated servers, but I feel like there is something in the netcode that gives an advantage to those with higher pings. There is no way to tell how good your connection is in Halo 5, but I have wired internet connection (100/10) and with most games my ping is between 30 and 40ms.
I feel like I get an absurd amount of assists, generally double my kills. I feel like I get shot behind cover. I feel like I am not getting hit markers when I’m very confident I should have won the fight. To top it off, I feel like my position on the “kill cam” does not match my position when I was killed. It honestly just sorta feels like host advantage from previous titles.
To test my theory, I tethered my Xbox to my phone. According to the network details on the Xbox I was getting 5 mb/s down and 2 mb/s up with a ping of 123ms. Who knows what my actual ping was in game. I consistently did much better, though. More kills and less assists. I also felt like all of my shots landed and that when I was killed I was simply out gunned. Curious enough though, the “kill cam” always showed my opponent aiming way off target when I am killed. I never once felt like I was lagging. Grenade throws still felt instantaneous which does lead me to believe that there is lag compensation taking place. I am curious if any of you have noticed any of this?
