Haven is the only decent 4 vs 4 maps in Halo 4. A big mistake.
That’s just ridiculous if you ask me for a game I bought full price. Most other maps are mostly for FFA(Abandon), CTF (Adrift and Solace), Dominion or BTB.
Half of the maps should have been designed for 4vs4, the others for 8vs8 and all of them should have been instead flexible for CTF and Dominion.
Now the result is that we only have 1-2 maps for each gametypes. That’s really not a smart way to make a multiplayer game.
Hey now, Complex is the best 4V4 map…
Said noone, ever.
Complex = Spawn Killing Paradise
Seriously. So MUCH of this.
What’s sad is how most of the maps are BtB maps.
And they have no support with BtB objective. Just dominion, which as we all know, is a great idea done poorly.
That’s probably the biggest problem I have with Halo 4. Overall, most maps are just too big! I miss the days of 4v4 arena maps that were interchangeable for various game types and could be used in slayer, oddball, CtF, and even KotH. Instead, maps are “designed” for one game type and are made for 5v5. Which is really just dumb. If you have 4 people in a party, you can NEVER play objective unless you’re a man down. It really doesn’t make sense to me.
Granted, 343i did mention in a tweet they were looking into making a higher number of smaller maps and are looking into adding forged maps into the hopper. A timetable however, would be nice. This first map pack looks like it’s going to disappoint - fast.
Even if the second map pack is 3 small maps… Not complex small. Haven small.
It will still be too far away. They need to add forged maps by the end of the year to keep people semi interested.
Keep in mind they have competition from a few other awesome games in the next few weeks.
Aftermath for BF3 anyone?
i’m not buying any dlc
so im hoping some good forge maps will be added in.

Yeah, it’d be still less maps than Halo 3 had at launch. I mean small - medium sized maps suited for 4v4.

Sad but true.
Remember Cold Storage???

I am very much looking forward to Tuesday. Close Quarters and Karkand kept my interest, but Armored Kill was a TDM expansion for me despite my love of Bandar Desert Conquest.
Even Haven is a bit on the big side. We have no maps that would play a 2v2 exceptionally well. More Haven-size maps is acceptable, but not preferred. Maybe we could get Solace Slice in matchmaking.
I agree. I’m not very impressed with the current maps and I don’t really like any of the maps in the trailer from what I’ve seen.
My biggest complaint is that the maps don’t have long lines of sight anywhere. It seems like all of the maps have a giant obstacle blocking the center of the map. It looks extremely deliberate on 343’s part. Look at Solace and the giant yellow beam.
Other Halo games had the middles of the map wide open for most of them so you could shoot across the map. Halo 4’s maps have all of the decent lines of sight blocked off. It’s very hard to get angles on people. I’m guessing this was their attempt to balance the DMR because of it’s long range and fast fire rate.

Agreed.
Dubs is going to be rather slow paced on the current maps.
If Aftermath is as good as the other BF3 DLCs I can see myself going back to BF3.
Either way, I think dubs is a way off yet, so I wouldn’t expect any ideal 4v4 or smaller maps, symmetrical or otherwise, to be released into the MM rotation until xmas.
Devastated I bought the limited edition now. I’ve just seen the DLC maps and I hope to god they make some small maps so we can play Halo and not Battlefield.
I’m also really disappointed that doubles isn’t a core playlist, but then, we don’t have any maps that would accommodate four people and keep it at a fast pace other than Haven.
Maps are too big, self indulgent map design i feel.
