Lack of progression system makes the game boring.

Anybody else have that feeling where since Halo 5 doesn’t a real progression system like Halo 3, Reach, or 4 it makes it where it gets boring easily? I might go one match and then get bored because of the req pack bs. I can play 10 matches in a row of Halo 3 or Reach and not get bored at all. The progression system in those games for unlocking stuff makes it more enjoyable to play than grinding out games for a req pack to end up getting a crappy helmet which Halo 5 has too many of. We need the old progression system for unlocking stuff back.

Getting to SR 152?

Getting to a high rank in Arena?

If it’s only items, then Halo Reach didn’t do much of that because you could unlock almost anything at any time.

Rank means absolute crap in Halo 5. You get no cool armor for it. look at the Haunted helmet in Reach. It was something worth for hitting the Inheritor rank. And for getting a high rank in arena is nothing important for a casual player when 80% of most ranked playlists are tryhards.

Meanwhile to me, getting to Inheritor only means that you played the game a lot. Doesn’t mean anything else and isn’t really that impressive, IMO.

The only thing worth hitting the Inheritor rank was the Haunted Helmet. Just about everything else could be unlocked by making it halfway up that list, which took like 3 months?

Especially considering you could cheese your way to getting huge amounts of cR to get up there. Why do you think Bungie put in credit caps to begin with? It was too easy.

And then you got Custom Challenges which was just a free source of large amounts of cR by just repeating one Campaign mission.

If you’re not playing for fun in the first place, why are you even playing at all? That doesn’t make much sense. If you need the game to constantly reward you for playing, you’re not going to have much fun with anything.

I enjoyed unlocking reqs and completing personal commendations. I definitely lost some motivation after that though. I think halo 5 is just a modern game, meaning you can work through what it offers in 6-9 months. That usually gets you through to the next batch of new games. I don’t fault 343 for that, I think it’s just the way games are now. 6-9 months of fun and you move on. Once you get everything unlocked it doesn’t really matter how you unlocked it, but given a choice I’d rather have achievement or commendation based unlocks instead of random stuff.

what I mean is if i want to get a certain armor or helmet I should be able to just go and unlock it by doing certain requirements for it. not get screwed over by every req pack. I enjoyed Halo 5 at first and now i only play it once in awhile casually for fun. Armor and helmets should have been for certain sr levels, commendation and achievements since the beginning.

somewhat i agree i just enjoy it from the dedication. though Reach didn’t have a perfect progression system it would have been nice for more of the armors that could have been unlocked from achievements and milestones like the waypoint ones. that was something 343 should have done for Halo 5.

There’s a reason they called the Haunted the “Grinder Helmet” back in Reach’s early days…then it was the “Edgy Helmet”, then the original Tryhard Helmet (now that’s Achillies, which is ALSO now called the Grinder Helmet interestingly)…

Well there are two “progressions systems” the RP system and the SR system.

yes but the req point system is random which is very stupid, they could have made it better and removed the rgn.

You have a progression system just like Reach. H5s xp system is exactly like Reach except it goes by numbers instead of names. H5s. XP 152 is essentially an inheritor in Reach. H5 also has CSR (which is what really matters)… bronze, silver, gold, diamond, onyx , and champion, each of which has their own levels as well. You also have commendations, granted most where easy to accomplish but some take some grinding (I need ten more mongoose destroyer in fact). Then you also have company commendations if you are in a company. So there is quit a bit of progression systems IMO. Only being able to unlock most cosmetics via the rec system, while pretty lame, doesn’t relate to progression systems.

Just tested them and they took me to the matching threads. But may take them down soon anyways since most should be up to date on them.

For me, the fun doesn’t come from the progression system. It comes from the gameplay.

What? Halo 3 didn’t… have progression systems. Halo 5 literally has more progression systems than Halo 3. You’re not bored of Halo 5 for lack of progression systems.

I agree. I only grind now to improve
